But the thousands who died on September 11 aren’t the real victims of these terrorist attacks. Nor are the thousands of soldiers who perished in the ensuing global conflicts. Nor are current and future generations of American taxpayers, who have been deprived of resources they could not afford to sacrifice.

While TBG wholeheartedly agrees with the gist of the last paragraph of your post; the folks listed above were and are “real” victims.

I think this is crass bullshit. Those who died are the real victims. I do not disagree that many of the other things have happened, but they are not “victims” of 9/11. Thank you for Giulianing this tragedy, which means using a national tragedy to score political points. Most of your readers will probably give you a hells yeah, but I am saying you are full of it.
If ou prior admiistration had devoted all our national outrage, military might and intelligence capability into finding bin Laden AND shutting down al Qaida, most of the abuses you cite, including thse tat continue in his administration, would not ave heen necessary.

I call BS on the blame game. Bushy had 4 years? (little less?) Oshitforbrains is 5 years, going on 6?

I got not love for either, but I’ll not stick Bushy with it all. Neither should you. Don’t let them make you stupid, man.

*coughs*

Despite Democratic propaganda to the contrary, Bush was elected in 2000 and took office in 2001. He had almost 7 and a half years…

We’re hardly “barely” out of Afghanistan with more than 60,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and even a few Coast Guardsmen thrown in for good measure on the ground. That doesn’t even begin to address the almost 100,000 contractors we have doing everything from handing out towels at the gym to carrying rifles and walking a post. The drawdown won’t really begin until the first of next year and will take until very late into 2014 to complete.

Barely meaning some rudimentary steps have been taken. I won’t consider it done until every boot and piece of equipment has left the ground.

No No No. 9/11 was in 2001 so he only had 4?

I’m gonna stick Bush with all of Iraq. We shouldn’t have gone there. If we deployed to Afghanistan the resources we deployed to Iraq, again, totally different outcome for the country and the world and Bush might have gotten to walk down the hallway to the East Room with his strut on.

The real victims of 9/11 were the 2,977 innocent people who lost their lives because Islamist terrorists hijacked planes and rammed them into buildings and a field in Pennsylvania. To claim any of us are “victims” on par with them is blasphemy. I can still worship God, speak freely, own a gun, and make a living. My phone might be snooped; they’re dead.

Go to hell, you soulless, shameless bastard.

I guess this story was simply for shock value? While I agree wholeheartedly that 911 has resulted in too much paranoia and hyperpatriotism and a loss of liberty through acts such as the Patriot Act, it is better to say that “in addition to those that died, there were other victims, such as . . . ” To say that the people who died “weren’t the true victims” strikes me as an immature and sophomoric statement.

Holy shit, dude. Really? Sometimes you display a talent for being wrong even when much of what you’re saying is right. You’re dead-on about one thing, though. The soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who died in the subsequent wars were most decidedly NOT victims. They all volunteered to head toward the sound of the guns, as the phrase goes. We knowingly sign up for that risk. The bankers, accountants, stock brokers, janitors, and receptionists incinerated that morning while at their civilian jobs in NYC did not; victims, all.

Some of these commenters are completely missing the point. 3,000 lives were lost in one day. 12 years later, 6,800 additional men and women are dead.

In case you can’t do math, that’s more than double. Then take into account hundreds of of thousands of wounded veterans and the countless innocent dead in the Middle East. Then add that our country is less free and has tripled its debt.

Then understand this: the War On Terror will never end. It is a forever war. We will be at war until this country collapses under its own weight.

The government’s reaction to 9/11 has done immeasurably more harm to this country than the events of that day. If those 3,000 could see America today, broke and bloodthirsty for more war, would they be proud?

FITS is right. We are the real victims of 9/11.

We acquiesced to the usurpation of our liberties because the citizenry were either lulled to sleep or panicked and the politicians of both parties, as usual, took the easy way out. It’s simpler to posture and pass a blanket “Patriotic Act” and concede unconstrained powers to faceless government officials than to undertake the demanding policy-making, oversight and public stands necessary to wage a global campaign against our enemies. The defense of liberty is often difficult and dangerous. We don’t have the leadership in DC to cope with this — and the fault is ours. We keep electing and re-electing the same weak poseurs. It is time for a change and the voters need to wake up!

When it comes to 911, I really prefer the truth as presented by Paul Craig Roberts:
