Clemson University’s football team has climbed to No. 4 in the nation on the strength of its 38-35 victory over SEC East powerhouse Georgia last weekend, according to the latest Associated Press poll.

Head coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers – who entered the 2013 season ranked No. 8 in the nation – leapfrogged in-state rival South Carolina, which remained at No. 6 after defeating North Carolina in its season opener last week.

The Tigers also leapfrogged the Gamecocks in the USA Today/ coaches’ poll.

Georgia – which hosts Steve Spurrier’s Gamecock squad in Athens this Saturday – fell from No. 5 to No. 11 in the AP poll.

Despite Georgia’s loss, the mighty Southeastern Conference still has four teams in the Top Ten and six teams in the top twelve – No. 1 Alabama, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 9 LSU, No. 11 Georgia and No. 12 Florida.

Clemson and No. 10 Florida State are the only Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked in the Top 25.

Rough week. When we beat Georgia we will not budge in the rankings. Should we lose we’ll drop 4 spots.

Clemson’s only other threat is Florida State and USC. The ACC doesn’t hold much competition yet we’ll keep gaining rank. I agree with you. I’ll admit it.

But if CU loses one game, they’ll be out of the top 10.

If TBG had a dollar for everytime he’s thought the same thing… and then they up and lost to Wake, Maryland, NC State, or Duke …

TBG, I don’t see that happening this year. As a Gamecock fan I try to be very objective. Fla State MAY be close to you guys, that remains to be seen. No one else in the ACC is.

I have always said I wanted the Carolina/Clemson game to be relevant. If we both keep going, it will be!

TBG sure hopes you’re right!

Anxious to see what the cocks can do against GA.

They have to beat Georgia now, because Clemson already has. I think it’s going to be ugly for USC if they show up with the same team that showed up Thursday night.

TBG notes that his beloved Tigers got one #1 vote.

They got rewarded for beating a traditionally strong team, despite giving up like 500 yards and a ton of points. Only other victory for which they can be similiarly rewarded is FSU, until November. Thy should have that challenge, but run the ables in the ACC, until Novembe. If hat happens, Clemson will be No. 3 or 4agaibst USC. but the likelihood s Dabo will be Dabo and probably lose to some he shouldn’t.as a Gamecick fan, I see several chances for ys to win and get a bump up, but there has to be some movement in the top too.whatever we are ranked, i want Clemson ranked high when we meet and beat them a fifth time.

Their offense also scored a ton of points and gained nearly 500 yard.

You probably don’t need to get that far ahead of yourself. I would concentrate on getting out of Athens with a win on Saturday. November is a long way off.
I would not buy tickets to Pasedina just yet. Don’t forget that you only could score 28 on a unranked ACC team.

“as a Gamecick fan, I see several chances for ys to win and get a bump up”
Do you see any chances to get “bump down”?

I hope the highway traffic vest wearing bastards have an undefeated season and are ranked number 1 right up until November 30th.

We have proof a team doesn’t rise in the rankings by beating an ACC team.

Or at least not as ugly of a win as I witnessed Thursday night. There is only one word to describe that game… sloppy.

Yes they did! The balance of power is resuming. To be restored in November.
