America doesn’t want a war with Syria. America can’t afford a war with Syria. There is no compelling national interest served by America going to war with Syria, nor is there any good likely to come from America going to war with Syria.
But U.S. President Barack Obama is having a terrible year … and Syria has crossed his so-called “red line” by using chemical weapons. So we’re going to bomb them.
Like, any day now …
“President Obama believes there must be accountability for those who would use the world’s most heinous weapons against the world’s most vulnerable people,” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said this week.
Meanwhile numerous media outlets are reporting that American military commanders are preparing for a forthcoming strike – one expected to last at least two days involving the use of long-range bombers as well as ship-based cruise missiles.
(Ka-ching).
No chemical weapons have been used against Americans, mind you – Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad is accused of gassing his own people. You know, as part of the Syrian Civil War.
Why should we care if he does that? Easy: We shouldn’t. It’s terrible, but its also none of our business … in fact some of the people fighting against Assad’s regime are every bit as savage as he is. And Obama is spending our tax dollars putting weapons in their hands.
Now we’re going to escalate our intervention … dropping an as-yet-undetermined amount of explosive force down from the sky in an effort to punish Assad’s regime for its actions..

As we’ve stated repeatedly this sort of recklessly aggressive interventionist foreign policy is not going to make America any safer. If anything attacking Syria in this way is going to make our country less safe – creating new martyrs, new enemies and new terrorists eager to carry out new plots.
All so Obama can have his “Wag the Dog” moment …

The problem is that even though Kerry is saying it’s “undeniable” no one actually knows which side has used them….the rebels have been looking to draw us in for some time.

Syria opens up the Eurasian gas fields for a pipeline to Isreal and less dependence on Russia by the EU. Plus Miss Lindsay and her BFF get to play with soldiers again.
I’m about as far from a pacifist that you can get, but why are we getting involved in another war we don’t need to stick our nose into? I feel this is nothing more than something that will deflect attention from Obama’s other fuck ups currently going on.
As others are reporting this is a serious foreign policy disaster unfolding. Russia and Iran are allied and supporting the Assad regime. Given Russia’s veto power on the security council the UN may not be able to intervene in the conflict other than the UN investigators already on the ground. This leaves the United States in the position of acting unilaterally, which is a dangerous proposition. Not to mention that no one has yet to ask or investigate as to where these chemical weapons came from. Do we really want to risk a larger conflict with Russia and Iran over Syria?
Respectfully, Iran, Russia and China aren’t going to do squat. I can already hear Obonehead on the phone ‘Aaahhh. Come on guys. It’s just a couple of cruise missiles. What’s the big deal. You know Asad has it coming.’
Please don’t misunderstand. I appreciate these countries have capable soldiers in their own right. Well trained and ready to go. Russia ain’t coming. They’ve got the Olympics coming up, and their own issues in the Baltics. China isn’t doing squat unless we move on Korea, which ain’t happenin’ cuz. They want their buffer and they’ve got it. Besides, they’ll support dang near anything we do, even if only behind the scenes, because we are each others mutual bread and butter at the moment.
That leaves Iran. Iran ain’t doin shite. We walked all over Iraq while they played that BS. Same with Afghanistan. While they may have 5K, 10K, Heck. Lets say they’ve got 20K hardened battle ready soldiers. That’s a lot. But it ain’t squat against a country that can own the air space over any country within 24 hours.
I have no love for war. I don’t think we should be the worlds police power. I didn’t think Iraq was good, I didn’t think Afghanistan was good and I know that Syria will not be good. But it’s happening. Their is nothing diplomatic about it.
