Union, SC – Retired teacher, three-time state champion high school football coach, and State Representative Mike Anthony (D-Union) will formally announce his candidacy for Superintendent of Education on Thursday, August 15th with a three-stop statewide tour.
Union press conference: Union, SC – 10:00AM – Union County Stadium – 100 Kirby Street, Union, SC (Press conference will take place in front of scoreboard)
Columbia press conference: Columbia, SC – 2:00PM – Hand Middle School – 2600 Wheat Street (Press conference will take place outside on the Woodrow Street side of the school)
Speech to the Charleston County Democratic Party: North Charleston, SC – 6:30PM – North Charleston City Hall – Council Chambers – 2500 City Hall Drive.
Mike Anthony is a retired public school teacher and football coach with over thirty years of classroom experience. A graduate of Union High School and Gardner-Webb University, Coach Anthony has dedicated his entire professional career to teaching young people in the classroom and on the football field. As the head football coach of his alma mater, Anthony led Union High School to three state championship titles in 1999, 2000, and 2002. He was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2002 and served on the Education Committee for six years before earning a seat on the Ways and Means Committee. Coach Anthony currently resides in Union, South Carolina with his wife, Dale, also a life-long public school teacher.
