Charleston, S.C. will play host to the first debate between the candidates seeking the U.S. Senate seat currently held by liberal “Republican” Lindsey Graham. And possibly Graham, too …
Details are sketchy at this point, but sources have confirmed to FITS the debate is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, August 27 – and that conservative advocacy group FreedomWorks is assisting local activists in pulling it together.
The event will be a Town Hall forum – a nice zing against the incumbent (who has declined to schedule a town hall with his constituents during the U.S. Senate’s August recess).
Invitations will be extended to Graham as well as each of his announced challengers – a field which currently includes Charleston businesswoman Nancy Mace, S.C. Sen. Lee Bright (R-Spartanburg) and Piedmont, S.C. attorney Richard Cash. Orangeburg, S.C. attorney and former lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Bill Connor could also participate, as many expect him to announce his candidacy next week.
Regardless of whether Graham shows up (and our guess is he takes a pass on this event), the Charleston debate will give South Carolina Republican voters their first real chance to assess the candidates vying to emerge as the “anti-Graham.” There is a strong, growing undercurrent of opposition to Graham brewing across the state – although the activists riding that undercurrent have yet to determine which candidate is best equipped to take him out.
The good news for Graham opponents? South Carolina is a runoff state – which means if no candidate receives fifty percent of the vote in next June’s election, the top two finishers will face off in a runoff election two weeks later.
Who are you supporting at this early stage of the race? Vote in our poll and post your thoughts in our comments section below …

There is only one place in the world that you know Graham will not be on that night and that is on the stage in Charleston.
I wouldn’t show up either if I had to face that slate of losers. Why give them a chance to debate issues?
Why don’t you run? Then you can make fun of you.
Believe me – if I ran, there would be plenty of ammunition people could lob at me. Most of it is true.
But to answer your question, Poly, I’m not a fucking narcissist looking to grab a position of power to feather my own nest. I work hard for what I have instead of running for office and have everything handed to me in exchange for access.
I don’t doubt one bit that you work hard. I work hard, too, and have, since I was a teenager. I used to be a bleeding heart liberal. Then I became a libertarian. Now, I don’t have a label. I used to make millions and do jobs on a handshake. Today, I wouldn’t take shit without a contract. Even the Episcopal Bishop I trusted turned out to be a lying asshole. The only people I trust are my son, my wife, and my dog. And my dog died.
When it comes to politicians, I trust the ones who have not lied to me the most. Up until 1980, Fritz Hollings never lied to me. After 1980, he never told me the truth. John West and Bob McNair were Democrats and relatives, but they never lied to me or my dad. Carroll Campbell never lied to me. Ever. But they’re all dead. If the people who are alive, David Wilkins has never lied to me. Tommy and Bill Traxler have never lied to me. But they’re never going to run for anything again. None of these people were or are narcissists. But they do know how to make power work for the good of the producers. Is that bad? Almost everybody else I know in a public position has told be a whopper. What do I do? Something else.. You know who has consistently told me the truth? Robert Ford of Charleston.. No kidding. If I asked him to, he would tell me the bad stuff.
I respect you enough to tell you these things. Please respect me enough to know what I’m saying.
I may not agree with you on many things, but I do respect your opinion. And sorry about your dog. I hope mine outlives me.
Well, I hope you don’t die any time soon. If the only people in the world were people who agreed with us, what a horribly boring world it would be! I can still like you, even if I don’t agree with you. Jeesh!

None of the above should be an option…
“Anyone but Graham” should also be an option.
Mongo like Tonto’s words.

Too bad gambling is illegal or we could take bets on Miss Lindsey showing up to the debates.
TBG believes there is a gentleman in Lexington…we’ll call him “DaFraze”, who can get you some odds and action. Dude gets things done…and he knows people.
I heard Parker can get you some action from the slam, or maybe that was Parker is getting some action in the slam.

WOW…what a fine poll question to be tagged to this article…(Rodney Dangerfield eye roll)……
The least this web site could do would be to add TontoBubbaGoldstein to the list of candidates as a JOKE to entertain the readers of this rag…!!
No wonder advertisers are kicking this site to the curb..!!!

Dear Nancy Mace………….( yes, you campaign advisers too..)
When you look at this article….how should it be used by your campaign staff for use in the debate…? Think Nancy..
Why would you want to use this article at all in the debate when immigration questions are certain too come up..?
What news is happening in Egypt today that is not posted on this website..? When is the last time Senator Graham has been in Egypt..? Do you know..?
On another thought…….(while Wil Foks is picking his nose) what kind of crowd do you think will be at this town hall debate..? How do you think the newspaper or radio or tv will present the crowd response..? How should you counter..? Do you know..? Do you know how to use your audience “members” in real time to demonstrate voter input..?
Mrs Mace……….the lack of Senator Graham’s use of this comment section is very telling about….what..?
Mrs Mace………does your campaign staff know what they are doing ….or not..?
Mrs Mace…..how many Kite surfers were on Folly Beach yesterday afternoon that are going to vote for you..? do you know..? Does Graham know..?

Lin, we wonder what would happen if one of your seating appointments were to stand up and ask a question about this article during the debate..? How are SC investors and voters taking advantage of certain corporate interests in Syria..?
