South Carolina Democrats are once again hoping to put incumbent Gov. Nikki Haley on the defensive regarding her economic record (or lack thereof). Oh, and they’re also looking to dampen the impact of a forthcoming fundraiser for Haley involving a trio of “Republican” governors …
Three GOP governors – Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Rick Perry of Texas and Scott Walker of Wisconsin – are slated to come to South Carolina to raise money on Haley’s behalf in the coming weeks.
Here’s what S.C. Democratic Party spokeswoman Kristin Sosanie had to say about all that …
With one of the highest unemployment rates in the country increasing, the median income decreasing, having (South Carolina) be named one of the hardest place in America to make a living, and with her poll numbers stuck in the low-40s, it’s no wonder Nikki Haley has to bring other states’ more-popular governors into South Carolina (and to the Upstate in particular) to try and raise money on their coat tails.
Sosanie also quoted a recent article on the Palmetto State’s unemployment rate …
Key Point: “Jobless rates went up last month in all but two of South Carolina’s 46 counties. In Spartanburg County, the unemployment rate jumped more than a point last month to 8.8 percent, up from 7.7 percent in May.”
Democrats have been blasting Haley on the jobs front lately – and with good reason. According to a recent report, Haley ranks 34th out of 45 governors surveyed when it comes to private sector job creation (five governors were not ranked because they entered office in 2013).
Pretty weak …
Also, South Carolina’s labor participation rate is nearly five percent lower than the national rate – which itself is hovering at three-decade lows.
Given her near-total lack of legislative accomplishment, Haley’s advisors are banking on her economic development successes to carry her to a second term. Increasingly, though, it’s becoming clear that these “successes” are illusory.

Politicians promise jobs as part of the ruse to get you to buy their snake oil. I am curious as to how they can actually produce jobs, other than swooning industry into moving jobs from one state to another. This is not job creation.
The only jobs that seem to be “created” in SC are those lured away from elsewhere with bribes of taxpayer money. If our many years of Republican government have created such a fantastic business climate, why aren’t more companies clamoring to move here?

“Democrats Pop Haley on Jobs”!
I wonder if Will Folks (Sic Willie) and Larry Marchant (just sick) popped on Haley?
Had a similar thought looking at the headline…
I’m sure Haley gave them “jobs” of some kind, at least.
She used to chew bubble gum.
Probably had to pull out of the “Porcupine Queen”!

I thought Bobby Jindal was underwater in Louisiana since his tax cuts for the rich plan failed?
I think ethnicity has more to do with Gov. Creationist Classes coming to SC.
Of course, THAT will make him very popular with our GOPers

Pathetic. A couple of losers coming to SC to raise money for another loser.

As much as she is about to be “popped”, she will look like a Pinata by the time this race is over.

And where is SCDEW in all this? Laying off the people who helped train job seekers to be successful.

The SC labor force isn’t exactly impressive, but it is cheap. No governor can fix the culture, but that also means no governor should make unrealistic promises.
