A juvenile judge in Maryland wants to ban toy guns from the state – arguing they present a danger to children.
“Some little child is going to die, or somebody is going to use that (gun) in the commission of a robbery. It looks that real,” judge Zakia Mahasa said, according to WBAL TV 11 (NBC – Baltimore, Maryland). “If the people who are selling them don’t care enough about our kids, I think we, as a community, should force them not to sell them.”
Mahasa – a Muslim – has been a master (a.k.a. a magistrate equivalent) in Maryland since 1997 when she became one of the first Muslim judges in America.
Local conservative bloggers pounced on Mahasa’s “crackdown.”
“This is Maryland, the same state that suspended a child for eating a pop tart into the shape of a gun, suspended another for making ‘pow’ sounds while pointing his finger, and suspended two students for playing cops and robbers at recess,” wrote Jeff Quinton of The Quinton Report.
We agree … this is ridiculous. In fact it’s every bit as ridiculous as the real crackdown on non-toy guns.
Decisions on when (and if) children should be allowed to play with toy guns ought to be the exclusive domain of parents.

Next – we will be hearing that boys can’t play with girls (or their sisters) because they may become sexual predators!
To late.

Ginger? — he could have found a better comparison and that is probably what pissed her off. “Sensitivity counseling?” — that’s pure possum doo-doo.
Frank, I may have been too hasty in my response. Can you find a picture of this “hot babe”?
Probably not. After I posted this response though, it reminded me of the 5 year old boy story.
I couldn’t find the story, but he was suspended for hugging and kissing (on the cheek you perv 9″) an older woman a I think. The wise and seasoned age of 6 was she.
I remember that story — too much interference from DC, I think.

I’m probably in the minority, but I never bought my kids toy guns. I didn’t want them to get the idea that a gun was a toy.
Your boys will likely end up gay.
I will love my children unconditionally, whether they are straight or gay. You clearly would not feel the same about your own children.
Furthermore, I doubt there is any science behind your statement. Clearly you do not have any rational thoughts on the issue. Given your previous posts and your allegiance to Clemson, I must say that I am not surprised.
Burn!!!!!! Love it Greenville!
I disagree about the toy guns. You can’t make a blanket statement about children though, which is what some people want to do. It is a parent’s right and responsibility to determine what their children can handle. When I was a boy my father let me have all sorts of realistic toy weapons: cap guns made of wood and metal, actual metal swords that were dull for safety, nun chucks for crying out loud, a full sized bow and arrows, my own swiss army knife when I was 7, and my own Daisy pump action BB gun when I was 8. Sure I sliced my finger open once with my knife, but it only happened once I promise you that. I learned to respect things that can hurt me. When I was older I got real guns and real knives, and contrary to what people would have you believe I respected them and was responsible with them because as far as I knew there was no other way. I have my father to thank for that.
If a kid can handle it and the parents are supportive and teach proper ownership, the kid should be able to have a weapon to learn with. If the kid doesn’t possess the discipline to handle it or the parents aren’t comfortable with it, then that is ok too. Leave it at that people.

Toy guns have orange tips for a reason. Most of the accidental shootings I’ve heard of involved a toy gun whose orange tip was removed or painted over. Then again, I’ve also read a story where a boy was shot for pointing a laser pointer at a cop. Should we ban those too?
I’d rather a robber hold up a store with a toy gun than a real one, wouldn’t you?
Nice try at logic though, judge.
I’d rather ban the cops
Might have something to do with laser sights on pistols… if someone I don’t know points something at me and a laser pointer comes on, I may seriously consider pulling my CWP pistol out too.

This whole thing is nothing but feel-good stupidity. I remember growing up where squirt guns and cap guns looked identical to the real thing. I don’t recall anyone shooting a 5 year old holding a squirt gun.

This is he same Maryland that brought us Queen Nancy Pelosi – her daddy was mayor of BallHerMore when I had the bad luck to be assigned there (near) in the army. “Nothing new under the sun…”.

Boys will still pick up a stick or point a finger and say bang if denied toy guns, but Jihadists still see no issue having their kids secretly drill with live Kalishnakovs…

Pretending to shoot and kill someone is part of growing up. Kids should be allowed to do it.
