Less than twenty-four hours after it was yanked from the web with no warning or reason, FITS’ Twitter account – a popular source of breaking news in the Palmetto State – is back online.

What happened? According to the company it was an honest mistake.

“Twitter has automated systems that find and remove multiple automated spam accounts in bulk,” an email from the company states. “Unfortunately, it looks like your account got caught up in one of these spam groups by mistake.”

Twitter apologized “for the inconvenience.”

While our account has been restored, our 10,500-plus followers have not been.

“It may take an hour or so for your follower and following numbers to return to normal,” the company stated.

Hmmmm-kay …

Anyway, we appreciate Twitter responding to this situation and restoring our account. We trust our followers will be restored eventually.

Also, we’d like to thank our associate opinion editor Amy Lazenby, notorious Twitterer Todd Kincannon and S.C. Senator Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) for their efforts on our behalf during this saga.

This shit happens every day. It’s the result of spam-blocking, and sometimes, yes, it is automated, and yes, Twitters bots read it as an account that is spamming their followers, and those who re-tweet the messages, and those who tweet with certain hashtags, etc. This is Twitter 101, and it’s what Todd’s Twitter Gulag Defense Network (TGDN) is all about. Sic is fortunate in having such a massive following that he doesn’t have to jump through the same hoops that many of us do when shit like this happens. Lord knows, though, I know half the world was holding its breath wondering how this was going to turn out.

YouTube will automatically remove videos if they get flagged a certain number of times, even if it is bogus. There are also DMCA trolls that take down not just videos, but entire channels with bogus flag campaigns.

At least Twitter isn’t that bad in that regard.

What kind of lame-ass pseudo-libertarian are you?

State Senator Davis? During office hours? Since when is restoring your Twitter feed a “core function of government”? Pseudo-libertarianism at its finest.
