Russell Ott To Run For SC House

(St. Matthews) – Today, St. Matthews native, Russell Ott, officially announced his candidacy for the South Carolina General Assembly in the special election to represent House District 93, which encompasses all of Calhoun County, and parts of Orangeburg and Lexington Counties. The Democratic primary is scheduled for September 10, 2013.

Ott says he is running because he’d like to continue the hard work and dedication to the people of House District 93 that they have received for the past 15 years. He also wants to be a voice of reason in a legislative body that hasn’t been working in a bi-partisan manner to help the majority of South Carolina residents.

“I will bring common sense solutions to the South Carolina State House,” Ott said. “It’s time for the people of South Carolina to believe their elected officials are in Columbia doing what’s best for the people and not just towing their party’s lines,” Ott continued.

“I really like helping people and solving problems. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of problems in Columbia. I was taught that when something is broken, you fix it. If you wait around for someone else to do it for you, it’s probably not going to get done. Too often, the gridlock within state government holds South Carolina. That gridlock prevents our state from becoming a better place to live and work. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and go to work to change that.” Ott added.

Ott is a lifelong resident of St. Matthews, South Carolina. He attended public schools in Calhoun, Orangeburg, and Lexington Counties and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in English. He went on to earn his Master of Public Administration from the University of South Carolina. He has served as a member of the Calhoun County Democratic Party as state convention delegate and continues to work on the family farm with his father, uncle, and brother where they grow cotton, corn, and peanuts. Ott has been employed by the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation for the last 8 years where he has advocated on behalf of agriculture and South Carolina farmers.
