LOTTERY WOES PROMPTING CRACKDOWN?

RE: “The S.C. Gambling Monopolists Strike Again“

You should send a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the S.C. Lottery and SLED for correspondence between the two agencies in regards to video poker. Im told from a very reliable source that Paula Bethea watched as scratch off sales declined and lit the fire for SLED to start enforcement. Seems the “sheeple” prefered the better odds of winning at video poker than the government run lottery.

TRANSPORTATION PRIORITIES?

Just curious and not a real big deal (other then every penny counts): Why are a bunch of the interstate road signs being replaced with almost identical signs? From what I can see the only thing changing is the font. Did the cities move? The mile markers and exit change numbers? They aren’t falling down, faded, or incorrect. The ones I have noticed are on Interstate 26 toward Greenville. Look at the old parking area on way to Greenville and you’ll see SCDOT trucks and stacks and stacks of signs.

Of course … we protect all of our sources. As to your point, we wholeheartedly concur. This state’s spending priorities are so far out-of-whack it’s embarrassing. Our S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is a disaster, and state lawmakers have done nothing but throw money at the problem (a.k.a. their solution for everything).

In case you’re not familiar with PINAC (Photography Is Not A Crime), it’s a great site. They highlighted a case from Darlington County this week:

Just your run of the mill abuse of power by a member of the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, but still worth posting at FITS in order to maximize the shame on this deputy. Maybe you can follow up and find out the status of the investigation.
