Serena Williams – who has been making news lately with her mouth as well as her racket – was bounced from Wimbledon this week in the fourth round by a low-seeded German.
Williams, the tournament’s defending champion -was vanquished 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 by Sabine Lisicki – the tournament’s No. 23 seed. The defeat ended Williams’ winning streak of 34 consecutive matches.
Williams – a five-time Wimbledon champion and the No. 1 player in the world – sparked controversy prior to the tournament after Rolling Stone published an interview in which she said a rape victim “shouldn’t have put herself in that position.” She also talked trash about rival Maria Sharapova, who is reportedly dating one of Williams’ ex-boyfriends.
Sharapova – the world’s No. 3 player – was also bounced from Wimbledon earlier than expected this year after she responded to Williams with a little trash talk of her own.
Hmmmm …
Maybe both of these ladies would be better “served” if they shut up and played …
