We were sorta minding our business this weekend, rolling along absent-minded and aloof as we are known to do when someone noted a glaring dereliction of duty on our part.
Our near-unpardonable sin? We haven’t conducted our pseudo-annual competition to determine the state’s hottest female lawyer (a.k.a. the recipient of the coveted 2013 Alicia Florrick Award).
Seriously … we’re officially halfway through the year and we have totally neglected to do one of the only things making this website even halfway tolerable (okay, “halfway tolerable” is putting it generously, we’ll admit it).
What the hell is wrong with us? We’re not sure … but there’s no excuse (although the fact it was a hot lawyer from a small rural town in the Pee Dee who tipped us off to our negligence made this bitter pill a little easier to swallow).
Anyway, the Alicia Florrick Award – named after Julianna Margulies’ character on the CBS’ drama The Good Wife – is obviously a double-edged sword. It has made us plenty of new friends (including a few with benefits – KIDDING), but it has also made us plenty of enemies … which is the price we pay for playing with fire (and fragile egos).
Hell, one of last year’s finalists went so far as to de-friend our founding editor on Facebook … ouch, right?
So … how does this work? Easy: We’ve got a list of hotties (Stephanie Nye, Cristin Uricchio, Beth Bernstein etc.) already in mind for consideration, but as it does every year – the competition hinges around the submissions we receive from you: Our readers.
How do you nominate someone? Well, you can confidentially email us with a picture of the nominee (or a link to their official webpage) or submit their information through our tip wire. Or if you’d like, you can just post their name/ link in the comments section below.
After a couple of weeks, we’ll do a post with all of the submissions (for the purpose of getting your feedback) – then we’ll pull together five finalists and let you vote for the winner!

Perhaps she was stocking up for a house party, but our eyes met and I sensed a great unease. “Madam Chief Justice, good to see you” or something like that was all I could say. She then whipped her cart around and stormed off, giving a little huff. The last thing I heard was an audible, but hushed, “Goddammit.” It was a weird day in South Carolina.
