They call Cheraw, S.C. “The Prettiest Town in Dixie,” but as we’ve recounted on numerous occasions the local governments running the show in that particular neck of the woods are among the dirtiest in the state.
We first learned of the rampant corruption in Cheraw – and surrounding Chesterfield County – via the sad and sordid tale of disgraced former solicitor Jay Hodge. Course there’s also S.C. Rep. Ted Vick, the walking (or rather stumbling) disaster who represents the region in the S.C. General Assembly.
In January of this year, this website reported exclusively on a S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigation into allegations that Chesterfield County sheriff Sam Parker was using inmate labor for work on private property (which is par for the course in this ass backwards, corrupt-as-hell state). Two months later Parker was indicted on those charges.
This week two additional county officials were indicted in connection with that scandal – local detention center director Ritchie Rollings and Harold Hainey, who runs the county’s emergency management division. According to prosecutors, both men were involved in the inmate labor scandal during their time at the local sheriff’s office.
Sheesh …
Is there one honest public servant in Chesterfield County?
This is why rural South Carolina doesn’t stand a chance: Crooked leaders, crappy schools, rampant poverty and dependency … it’s a friggin’ third world country out there, a place for the rest of us to pity on our way to the beach.

He is from Camden and if you don’t even know that, how can you know enough about him to trust him or throw him for that matter? Face it, the state of South Carolina has 3 distinct revenue areas:
1. The coast = Goose that lays the “golden egg” and a playground for the Rednecks from the NC line to just above Pawleys Island and for the “Bluebloods and rich Yankees from Charleston to the Georgia line. The “Pleasure zone” extends approximately 20 miles west of the shore line and is then part of the “vast unwashed” zone from the Coastal NC line to the Coastal Georgia line at Savanah.
2. Midlands (mainly around Columbia – such that it is…) basically hotter than hell in the summer and boring & dull 365 days/year except for the Gamecock faithful who assemble in the fall. Go ahead, have a good time at Williams-Bryce and cheer the Gamecocks on; it’s nothing to me one way or the other, I really don’t give a rat’s ass………………..
3. Upstate: Full of conservative hypocrits who worship at the holy grail of enticing every industry they can pimp by offering “fees in lieu of taxes” thereby shouldering more of the infrastructure and support costs on the back of the residents.
The rest of the state of South Carolina is just someplace you pass through and flick your cigarette butts,beer cans or Hardee’s breakfast bags out the car window as you speedily arrive to your final destination knowing full well that some chain gang will pick up the shit that you throw out the window so you can throw all the shit out you care to because some self righteous sheriff and his/her supporters think that picking up trash is what inmates should be doing.
Been that way for at least 40 years and I don’t see that changing anytime soon!!!

Didn’t Boeing take incentives and “in lieu of…” to another level…will SC see any benefit from it other than increased income taxes from the workers?

At least you should run a survey assigning numeric values for such things as Sheriff being drug dealer (5) having sex with an employee (4) using convict labor for personal benefit (3) misuse or hiding campaign funds (2) being a liar(1) you could double the value for indictments and triple for conviction. When it comes to crooked politicans I guess each county automatically gets at least a (1) since there are so many. This has been going on for well over 50 years that I know of in South Carolina and I will bet you it is happening all over the country all the way from DC to the smallest Hamlets. We have created a government of slave masters instead of public servants.
Government employees are the largest tax deadbeats in America. You cannot fire one when they break the law you can only put them on paid leave. We give the IRS Employees bonuses for harassing and targeting tax payers that disagrees with government and the same government is reading all our mail and listening in on our conversations. It’s unfortunate that a couple of politicians from Chesterfield County can tarnish the reputations of the many fine local politicians our county has. Also, I resent the fact that the Cheraw Town Hall is the featured photo for this article, and none of the persons listed in the article have any connection with the administration, mayor or town council for the Town of Cheraw.
The Town Council has a bunches of “Yes Sir” types. Fred Harris is about the only on who has the guts to stand up to the Mayor, if need arises. The rest of them, especially Ellerbee, think that if you abstain from voting…it is not voting! Hello idiot. It is the same. ” If you choose to not to decide, you still have made a choice”.
As far any of them being honest, I think not. Ellebee busts the church doors down when it is open, haunts the local liquor store weekly for her potent poison but her church is trying it’s best to shut down a bar in town (the only place Dizzie could play because he was African American), because the preacher doesn’t want to see the bar when he pulls into his parking lot. The bar has been there for since the dawn of ice and beer.
