Boeing: “We Got Sanford”

Representatives of aircraft manufacturer Boeing are privately bragging that the company has secured U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford’s support for the crony capitalist U.S. Export-Import Bank, which in addition to picking winners and losers in the marketplace provides foreign competitors with an unfair competitive advantage over American companies.

“We got Sanford,” one of them told a top South Carolina business advocate, information that’s being confirmed independently via our network of Washington, D.C. sources.

Sanford’s office has yet to respond to our request for comment regarding Boeing’s boast on the “Ex-Im” bank – which is commonly referred to as “Boeing’s Bank” given the extent to which the company benefits from its taxpayer-guaranteed lending. Boeing received $8.4 billion in Ex-Im loans in 2009, $6.4 billion in 2010, $11.4 billion in 2011 and $12.2 billion last year.

In 2012, loans benefiting Boeing comprised more than 83 percent of the bank’s lending capacity. These loans make it harder for U.S.-based airlines to compete – which costs them routes and jobs. This diminished competition in turn results in higher airfare costs for consumers.

Reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank was courageously opposed last year by former U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint and U.S. Reps. Jeff Duncan and Mick Mulvaney. Unfortunately then-U.S. Rep. (now Senator) Tim Scott supported the program – along with U.S. Reps. Trey Gowdy and Joe Wilson. S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley was also an enthusiastic supporter of the bank – writing a letter to the state’s congressional delegation on behalf of its 2012 reauthorization.

Together, Haley and Sanford approved more than $1 billion in taxpayer-funded incentives for Boeing – which operates a manufacturing center in North Charleston, S.C.

Sanford has repeatedly decried “picking winners and losers” in the economy, but his servile accommodation of Boeing – which contributed $5,000 to his 2013 congressional campaign – does just that.

In order for Sanford to preserve any shred of credibility with limited government, pro-taxpayer voters he must rebuke all forms of crony capitalism – including direct subsidies and the unfair low-interest loans provided by “Boeing’s Bank.”

After all, the last thing South Carolina needs is yet another politician in Boeing’s pocket …

I do believe we will be getting a story soon regarding numerous threats today regarding explosives generally. Looks like there is some support, via likely fake as hell threats, for Mr. Snowden? Fascinating

Huh. Maybe Sanford is maturing away from an utterly ineffective purist and is now learning that being a lawmaker means, you know, making actual laws. With the deficit falling, a stinging GOP defeat, and the economy picking up, sounds like the craziest are being marginalized.

Good.

You might consider that there are very good reasons not to support the Ex-Im bank that aren’t “crazy” and even further make sense…even according to the airlines:

…don’t think there is a right side of the Sullivan Family. I expect Mark Sanford is persona non grata with them as he probably would be with Chapur’s family if he aborted his relationship with mistress turned fiancee.

OK that’s a two for two demonstration of Sanford “flaking” as Sic earlier warned the SC-1 congressman-elect at the time. At the very least we want to hear an audio of him parsing his words, justifying his position on the flood insurance issue and now this Boeing deal. Another feather for HIS nest. Maybe he is doing the cronyism to guarantee a hot, high-paying job with Boeing in the near future, now that he realizes that his congressional job is not “all that.”

WTF ? Boeing isn’t competing with Airlines but aircraft mfgs. ala Lockheed Martin, the Dutch mfg.(?), etc.

Sanfraud is a worm but no one can represent the 1st District and not be in Boeings pocket.

I was curious about Gowdy. Glar to see he is not a hypocrite. BMW has papers
on him.

Look people, if you are educated, have a good credit rating, a checking account, and your brain is not fried from years of drug, sex, and alcohol addictions, then you may be able to start a business catering to Boeing. Boeing, when they settle in, will accept vendors from SC. Do you have any idea what I am talking about? Resume normal, I did not think so…

On the U.S. Export-Import Bank, I have no problem with this bank. This program rebuilt Europe with the Marshall Plan. This program creates companies, jobs, and tax revenue for you uninitiated cave dwelling knuckle-draggers out there.

Get over it, and buy Boeing stock!
