Embattled S.C. Sen. Robert Ford (D-Charleston) will resign his seat in the State Senate, multiple sources familiar with his thinking tell FITS.

Ford’s resignation is expected to be announced Friday by his attorney, with a formal letter submitted shortly thereafter.

The Senator – who was hospitalized for an undisclosed ailment – was scheduled to appear before a legislative ethics committed for another day of testimony related to the multiple campaign finance violations of which he stands accused. An earlier hearing into these allegations took a bizarre turn when Ford was accused of using campaign resources to make purchases at a pair of adult bookstores. The veteran Democrat was also accused of using campaign funds to purchase penis enlargement pills.

Ford’s resignation (and the vacancy it creates) will trigger a special election in S.C. Senate District 42 – a gerrymandered “majority minority” district that runs along the northern border of Charleston County (and includes a small corner of Dorchester County).

Filing for the seat would open on the third Friday following the official receipt of Ford’s letter of resignation – and last for ten days. Primary elections would be held eleven weeks after the vacancy (with runoff races two weeks after that, if necessary).

UPDATE: The Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier is quoting Ford’s lawyer, William Runyon, as saying he has not yet been authorized to announce Ford’s resignation but “I’m not suggesting that couldn’t happen.” The paper is also reporting that Ford has been released from Baptist Medical Center after being admitted Thursday for “chest pains” following his ethics hearing.

UPDATE II: The Associated Press has confirmed Ford’s resignation.

So the Senator that ‘took’ the Howard Rich money in exchange for his support of the out-of-state Voucher scheme resigns due to ethics violations.

Say it ain’t so!!!!!………..

Now if Randy Halfacre would just resign, Lexington would flourish. Maybe not, then we would have Hazel, what in the heck is her last name this week, for mayor. As she states, “Love me some hooka shoes”.

Back in the day Wesson Oil parties were quite the rage

After a few galvanized tubs of purple jesus were consumed the floor would be covered in plastic, everyone would get buck nakkied, empty a couple of quarts of WO on each other’s head, get down on the floor and commune with nature

At one notable event over at Folly Beach I was convinced that I had achieved an erection that would go down in Guinness Book of World Records

Just when I was about to call everyone’s attention to my accomplishment I realized that the pecker in my hand was not my pecker

My question is, does this outing have anything to do with Mr. Ford’s campaign against the SCSU board fiasco? Not that he should not be held accountable for a) leaving a money trail for these purchases, b) being what can only be described as bone-headed for the lazy hiding of misuse of campaign funds that others seated around him have elevated to an art form, c) the real scandals others have mentioned in connection with Mr. Ford, but these transgressions are par for the course for state reps. If he is outed, so should everyone else be outed.

All I know is Mr. Ford very publicly denounced the recent decisions by the SCSU board, and, boom, his petty cash problem is front page news.

A few years ago I would have probably agreed with you, but not now that ol’ Andre’s suffered the standard “two defeats back to back” that most political scientists will tell you is the end of the road for about 98% of candidates. People up in Horry said that he would do well in the Dist. 7 race – he had the most name recognition in the race (even more so than the actual local candidates) and (as usual) he worked twice as hard as anyone in the race, and yet Rice beat him by 12 points. Keep in mind too that he didn’t simply lose the in the 2010 Republican Gubernatorial Primary, he got drubbed. I think he only picked up 10 or 12% in that one. Nothing personal against the guy, I just think he’s done.

Obama Under Fire for Using Free Government Housing

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — In the latest scandal to rock the Obama Administration, a leading Republican congressman accused the President today of using his position to obtain free government housing for himself and his family.

According to Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin), Mr. Obama “has arrogantly exploited the office of President to gain access to a fifty-five-thousand-square-foot residence that could double as a museum.”

“While the average American is struggling to pay his bills, President Obama is living in a luxury home, adorned with priceless paintings and antiques as far as the eye can see,” Rep. Ryan alleged.

Additionally, the Wisconsin congressman said, the President has availed himself of “sumptuous free meals — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — all on the taxpayer’s nickel.”

“Day after day, he selfishly sucks on Uncle Sam’s teat,” he said.

In keeping with Mr. Obama’s bloated lifestyle as “Superstar-in-Chief,” the congressman added, “The President travels with an entourage of highly trained bodyguards who would put Jay-Z’s posse to shame.”

Drawing a line in the sand, the Republican warned Mr. Obama to cut back on his lavish living arrangements “or face possible impeachment.” “Across America, people are tightening their belts,” Rep. Ryan said. “The President should not be living like a head of state.”

Ford, a black senator, is run out of office by a pack of white state legislators, the most powerful of whom — Bobby Harrell — committed very similar ethical faults.

The differences?

Ford bought sex pills; Harrell bought airplane fuel.

Ford is embarrassed beyond belief and the butt of jokes; Harrell is arrogant.

Ford provided all credit card receipts; Harrell refuses disclosure.

Ford is truly disorganized; Harrell works hard at manipulating his campaign expenditures.

Ford acknowledged his unlawful actions and resigned; Harrell denies his unlawful actions, hires the state’s most powerful politician / defense lawyer, and stonewalls investigators and reporters.

The similarities?

Neither will face civil or criminal sanctions.

> > > > >

The big story is that S.C.’s white legislators (both parties) get away with ethical murder, while the Legislative Black Caucus — like Ford — is totally disorganized, insular, principally interested in maintaining their posts (Jackson, Malloy, Matthews, Mack come to mind), and allow themselves to be manipulated by the whites.

This is a black-and-white issue at its core.

Blacks should be in the streets demanding equal treatment for corrupt white legislators.

Unfortunately, their “legislative leaders” will stay inside where it is cool, comfortable, quiet, safe.

I am sure it will be swept under the rug though just like Chief Scott’s illicit activity. Bad track record for blacks in leadership roles. Yes, white ones have been corrupt but nowhere near the percentage that blacks have. Terrible representation to their race.
