Mega Jackpots: SC Loses Again

Last November, when the Powerball jackpot climbed above $500 million, we wrote a post entitled “Buy Your Tickets, Mouth Breathers!”

Suffice it to say, we’re not big on the whole mega-jackpot craze – in which mostly poor people (i.e. government dependents) blow their modest means on this government-run scam, with the vast majority of the proceeds going back to the government.

It’s a “tax on people who are bad at math,” one of our Twitter followers noted.

He’s right …

Which explains why our state’s “Republican” leaders are not just hard up to preserve their monopoly on gambling … they’re also hard up to preserve government’s monopoly on keeping future generations as stupid as possible.

Anyway, South Carolina has participated in the Powerball jackpot ever since 2002 – and in the Mega Millions jackpot since 2010. But the Palmetto State has never won the big prize in either drawing. That trend continued this week when the winning ticket in the $590 million Powerball jackpot (the second largest lottery jackpot in American history) was sold at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Presumably, the ticket was purchased by someone who could afford the $2 investment …

Only 7 states do NOT participate in Powerball. So how can it be a “Republican” thing?

Excuse me, but didn’t an elderly preacher win the Powerball grand prize jackpot a few years ago. I believe the gentleman was from the Hopkins/Eastover area. True, it was not hundreds of millions of dollars, but it was the grand prize, I believe.

Same for a young construction worker from the Gaston or Pelion area. He played one time, on his 19th birthday and won the grand prize, I believe.

I don’t get why people get so excited over a $600 mil jackpot. Your odds of winning are exactly the same, and to be quite honest, $60 million, or even $6 million, is a lot of fucking money for most of us.

What the fuck would you even do with $600 mil, even after taxes, even after taking a lump sum hit? Come on people…

I don’t play the lottery, but I could spend that much and more, if I had it.

Honestly, I couldn’t. I could burn through a million paying off my debts and my family’s debts and buying a few things. The second million I’d burn some of (a few nice vacations, for instance) but save/invest the rest. Anything beyond that $2 million, honestly, I have no idea what I’d do with it. Donate it to charity? Help people in a bind out?

I’ve never been big on owning fancy shit or having a dream mansion or sailing on a yacht. Part of me has no desire, and part of me sees how stupid people can be with their money just because they have an excess of it. Plenty of celebrities and lottery winners who have made it big and ended up broke or worse off than they were before. No thanks. Paying off everything and being able to live a relaxing life is more than enough for me.

Mo’ money, mo’ problems.

You could ask Obama the same thing. He has robbed us to feed his miserable economy that has broken us. Still he just puts his GREEDY paws on more and more to compensate for the corruption that always leaves the wicked wanting,,,

My bride of 42 years has always wanted a beach front house at Edisto.

I would buy Butch Pendarvis place on Point Street for her.
I have always wanted to return to my roots with a “gentleman’s farm. Therefore, I would buy the golf course at Edisto and turn it into a farm, raising white face and black angus cattle, and marsh tacky ponies. As a side benefit, with no golf course to lure them, two-thirds of the YANKEES and YUPPIES would leave.

Don’t worry Smirks. The money will be spent thus;

75% Taxes

Of the balance 100% to lawyers (hers) because he’s a $1.85 behind in child support.
He might get a popsicle out of it. He probably will. We already know he’s lucky.

Have a Great Day!! :) There won’t be many left with the Demlicans and Republicrats in charge.

South Carolina may not have won BIG prizes, but it certainly has won many second prizes. For instance there were only 2 winners for $3.00 tickets each worth $2 million. One winner was from South Carolina and the other from New York.

The lottery is for imbeciles. I made a big play on a sporting event once and won a small fortune. Most of it, I spent on drugs and pussy; the rest I spent foolishly.

Do not be daft. The Powerball Lottery IS designed to benefit government. A percentage of ALL Powerball tickets sales in SC goes to SC as revenue. My guess is this percentage goes into the General Fund. The purpose of Powerball is to generate revenue for respective states that participate. Half of the price for a Powerball ticket actually goes towards prizes.
