For the second month in a row, gas prices in South Carolina were the nation’s lowest – even though our state’s dirt poor residents continue to pay disproportionately high percentages of their income on fuel.
According to the AAA daily fuel gauge report, the average price per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline is currently $3.24. That’s down a nickel from when we checked last month – and well below the national average of $3.60, which has actually climbed by nine cents since last month.
That’s good news for motorists in the Palmetto State – which boasts some of the lowest income levels in America.
The bad news? “Republicans” in the S.C. General Assembly continue to push for a gas tax increase. In fact both chambers have unveiled plans sponsored by so-called “Republican” lawmakers that include permanent annual increases in the gas tax.
The Senate proposal would also include tax hikes on vehicle sales, vehicle registrations and drivers’ license renewals.
This website has consistently opposed a gas tax increase – and we oppose any new vehicle tax, too. We believe if our state wants to address so-called transportation funding shortfalls, then it should start by scrapping unnecessary transportation projects.
And eliminating corruption in the awarding of transportation contracts …
Anyway, what are gas prices like in your neck of the woods? Post your “pump price” in our comments section below …

Time for my semi-regular rant about this. Gas prices week-to-week can fluctuate by ten cents or more. A ten cent increase in the gas tax (or even just a four cent tax increase as proposed by the State House) would hardly be noticed by the consumers, but would definitely be felt by SCDOT. Remember, this is a tax that has not been raised NOR adjusted for inflation since 1987, so SCDOT has half the available output for construction and maintenance than it did 25 years ago; all to maintain the nation’s fourth largest road network.
So long as SCDOT uses increased gas tax money for maintenance and expansion of existing roads, I will continue to bang away at the drum for a more reality-based level of road funding through fuel tax, in addition to a proper property tax on vehicles based on weight and not based on vehicle price.

Which is why projects like I-73 make zero sense. SCDOT isn’t making good use of what funds they have. People who can’t manage their money for crap won’t notice a difference when given a raise, people who are smart with their money do.
You go SMIRKS…!!!
NAILED IT, Smirks.
I-73 never made sense at any level of gasoline prices or levels of gasoline taxes.
Nonetheless, Tom Rice (R-SC7) is still pushing that turkey, suggesting that it could be built as a toll road. Maybe he has never heard how popular I-185 has been around Greenville — bankrupt and on the taxpayers bill now.
That bike in my avatar has averaged 48MPG over 60,000 miles on the clock.

With the warmer weather we can look forward to rising gas prices and hopefully rising skirts
Rising skirts? I think this is a better representation of the average South Carolinian
Have you actually been to SC lately?

LOW!!!!!!…..Hahahahahahaha…I said earlier today that society is ruined when Liars try to pass themselves off as a wise voice. And FITS immediately proves me right…
Go back to the Bush Administration THAT was low gas prices…and even when prices got high, Bush had a successful plan to bring them back down…..
Gas has been a GIGANTIC Tax on Americans since Obama got in….on top of the Fact that household incomes are down $5,000-a yr. each. And the level of joblessness, is astronomical…
FITS is a main Dumb@$$ mouthpieces for Corrupt Liberals, who can get re-elected despite the pain and Suffering they cause for us…
If you wonder why we’re in a mess…look no more…FITS, and idiots like him, are a good reason why…
Get over it, pussy. Nobody’s buying “your gas.”
Unemployed people CAN’T buy much, you ignorant Dumb@$$…and thanks to your Failure-in-Chief, who told us he”d fix it, people are suffering…
But as long as the government takes the little revnue out there, screws its politcal enmeies w/ the IRS, and props up your lazy, whining @$$…you don’t give a $#!*…
…back in 2004:http://www.opednews.com/articles/Bush-Used-the-IRS-FBI-CI-by-David-Sirota-130514-490.html
what’s that, shit for brains?
LMAO: That B*!!-$#!* yarn is why Dan Rather F$*@#D you mindless idiots over w/ his forged documents…and why Obama thought he could say a video got his ambassador killed, and you’d beleive it…
Don’t you think REALITY may need to be at least remotely associated to the Story…Dumb@$$…???
One of the MOST Laughaable Traits of Liberals…you are IGNORANT, and believe anything anybody tells you, Because you WANT it to be true. Bush NEVER used any government agency on any political opponent. If he even thought about it, the media would have risen in a lynch mob…
Myths, Lies and Fables are the basis for the religion known as Liberalism…you are proof of that…
I would ask you to point out how many errors was in that item, but you’re in Beck’s world of crazy…
You’re really beyond hope…PLEASE don’t raise kids!!
I read three words and realized this was libitard piece (o’shit) article (Tthhpp). Not much different from the MSM. That includes Faux News (I believe that’s how someone like you would pronounce it).
Have a Great Day!! :) There won’t be many left with the Demlicans and Republicrats in charge.

Lol! Thanks, Frank!
A shared fetish for hot girls pumping gas is one of the reasons I like Will. If he’d just every now and then include one where the girl is wearing a crocheted micro-bikini and heels, this would forever be my blog of choice for hard-hitting political reportage.
I ‘ll post one here for you later today – I don’t know where it is right now. It’s really, really good.
Buz reminds me of the creepy old. dude, who looks like he has roach eggs in his clothes, who sits behind the curve of the bar. He’s always hiding his hands, down low, w/ a blissful-glazed look on his face. He gets silly-stupid, especially when nice lookin’ women come in…
Based on a free society, he has the legal right to creep people out, but he’s bad for business, Because as soon as any female notices what he’s doing, they get the H#!! out of the palce. Bartenders hate the type.
Are you,’projecting’?

Last I heard the USA was pumping 800-900,000 gals. a day, and more on the way. This will keep gas prices down and piss off OPEC. Most of us drive more gas efficient cars except Grand Tango where they still drive jalopies in his retarded neck of the woods. We are on our way towards energy sufficiency–a good thing. We must keep on pumping, and I say “frack you” if you don’t like the way we do it.

Over $3/gal is not low. We’ve been conditioned.
