Sanford For “Foreign Affairs” Committee?

U.S. Representative-elect Mark Sanford (R-Gentina) hasn’t drawn his committee assignments yet, but it’s a safe bet the “Republican” leadership in Washington, D.C. will make its selections with an eye on bottling up the former South Carolina “Lov Guv.”

Fiscally liberal GOP leaders – who turned their back on Sanford at a key moment in his special election race against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch – don’t want him making waves for them on the spending front, which means he’s unlikely to land a spot on any budget-related committees. They’re also probably not too keen on putting the scandal-scarred politician on powerful rules, commerce or government oversight committees.

Where does that leave Sanford? Well, one committee that could wind up as his future home would make for a funny punch line.

Foreign affairs …

That’s right … the former governor who snuck off to Argentina to visit his Latin lover (after telling his staff he was “hiking the Appalachian Trail”) could become the newest member of the “foreign affairs” committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.

How apropos

Now the only question is whether there’s a Latin American subcommittee he could chair …

Is there an Interior Dept. committee?

Probably couldn’t serve on it at the same time as the Latina… er Latin American committee, though.

Is there a Public Affairs Committee?
Nevermind, there would not be enough seats on that Committee for all of the self centered immoral elected officials.
I think there is one in the SC Legislature though.
Chairman would be Mark Sanford
1st Vice Chairman would be Bob Peeler
2nd Vice Chairman would be Richard Eckstrom
Treasurer would be Nikki Haley
Minority Whip would be Ted Vick
Majority Leader Harvey Peeler
The rest of the membership, yet to be determined (found out).

Wait, wait, wait — there’s a House Committee on Ethics. He has a lot of experience on rulings and such. Don’t Security Firms often hire ex-thieves and Software Firms often hire ex-hackers? Ways and Means Committee might also be a good fit since they are the chief tax-writing committee and that would leave him with a lot of spare time to keep up with his SC-1 duties, custodial arrangements with Jenny, and trips to Argentina.

I would rather have a non-interventionist like Sanford on the Foreign Affairs Committee than a run of the mill neoconservative Republican or interventionist Democrat.

Just read installment #2 of P&C Mark Sanford piece. Blood, sweat, and tears for the whole family to support his quest. IMHO, Chapur doesn’t fit into the construction of the candidate in a lasting way. She wasn’t a building block, she was more like a temporary buttress.

P&C is working hard at characterizing him as a sympathetic, Don Quixote visionary. At this rate, they’ll have him in the Presidency by 2016…forget about finding him a berth in one of the Committees!

Isn’t that the newspaper that endorsed EBC because they were so sick of Sanford stories? By the way I tried to click on to the papers; they would not let me unless I sign in-WTF.

Someone must have owed him a favor??? Or is journalist Chapur ghost-writing?

When I read the sympathy piece on Sanford in th P&C,I kept thinking about all of the others who worked on farms all day in the heat and didn’t have a plantation home to go to at the end of the day,or a surgeon father to support the 1500 acre “farm”.Sanford has milked that story for so long the teats are the size of toothpicks.

THAT’S why you’re not married yet. He wants some more of those Congressional junkets to go look for more soul mates.
