Earlier this week we broke the news that the University of South Carolina-Upstate – which shouldn’t even exist as a taxpayer-funded entity – was hiring a washed-up former Atlantic Coast Conference athletics director to oversee the launch of its new football program.
Yeah … football is coming to USC-Upstate. We can’t wait to see the impact of this boondoggle on the school’s already exorbitant $1000 per year “athletics fee.”
Anyway, we’ve since been able to confirm the school is working with former UNC-Charlotte fundraiser David Jandrew – who helped get that school’s football program off the ground.
Don’t believe us? Take a look …
We’ve also learned that in choosing former N.C. State athletics director Lee Fowler the school is ignoring the required search process.
“There is an interim athletic director in place and there is no search committee appointed for the position,” our insider reports. “By not having a search committee faculty and students have no representation.”
Hmmmm …
USC Upstate chancellor Tom Moore was supposed to name Fowler as the school’s new athletics director last week, but our coverage apparently preempted that announcement. Moore, his wife and other USC-Upstate administrators are reportedly headed out of the country next week on a taxpayer-funded trip to China, so the announcement will have to wait until later this month.
Sheesh … whether its academics or athletics … every time we turn around this school is wasting tax money.

ACC sources are saying Upstate and Francis Marion will be added to the conference in 2016. This has also been confirmed by Big T and Tango Mango.
Francis Marion? – I’m calling Tiger Feathers on that!

If USC Upstate had had a football team 20 years ago, I would have played there. My lil bro too!! Clowney would be popping the big pops ’cause he certainly would be there! They would have 10 or 12 national champs by now!

I can hear the announcer now ….University of South Carolina “Upstate” has the ball on the Univeristy of North Carolina “Pembrook’s” 10 yard line. I never understood why why the area is called upstate anyway. It’s West and at a slightly higer elevation, so is downtown.

There is no amount of money these higher ed folks cant spend.
I understand USC Columbia is beginning “secret” plans, again, to enlarge the stadium.
Funny. I was told, by a friend that seems to know everything about SC government, much the same thing.
He said USC was gathering itself to make the BIG ASK. Lots of money needed, and he mentioned the stadium.

Easy solution – let the students vote.
