CSOL Honor Code Violation Goes Unpunished

“Students of (the) Charleston School of Law shall not lie, cheat, steal, nor tolerate those who do.”

That’s the cookie cutter honor code at the Lowcountry law school we have mercilessly mocked (and with good reason) over the years. But is it worth the paper it’s printed on?

Not in the case of former Charleston School of Law (CSOL) student bar association president Shun Griffin – a liberal activist who is currently staring down  stalking charges in Richland County, S.C. On April 11, students at the school were notified via email that “the Honor Council disposed of one Honor Code violation through an Admission of Guilt, pursuant to the Honor Council Rules.”

According to multiple source familiar with the case, the subject of this violation was none other than Griffin – who was impeached back in February.

What happened?

“After Shun’s felony arrest, he hacked into a fellow student’s e-mail account and was sending school wide emails as that student,” one source familiar with the case tell FITS. “When this was discovered, he was investigated for a code of conduct violation. During this time, Shun did not come to school and was not permitted to be on campus.”

As he has done with the stalking charge, Griffin steadfastly denied the hacking allegations leveled against him. However upon learning that the honor charge would proceed to a trial, he confessed and was convicted by admission of guilt.

Despite this honor code conviction, Griffin continues to attend classes at CSOL. In fact he is scheduled to graduate this weekend with his classmates.

What?

Why hasn’t Griffin been given the boot?

“The administration has been so scared of Shun because he has been a divisive and controversial ‘activist’ from day one on campus,” one source tells FITS.

Scared of him? Or cozy with him? Griffin reportedly takes tea once a week with CSOL dean Andy Abrams – one of his staunchest supporters.

Clearly that relationship has helped him evade responsibility for his actions …

Why don’t you report on Bakari Sellers honor code problems as USC.

If he won’t, you’re more than welcome to tell us all about it.

This is what I know….in law school, his last semester, he never showed up for class. He shows up for exams. As part of taking the exam, you certify that you have not missed more than the allowed number of absences. He took the exam despite having exceeded the number of allowances and someone turned him in for an honor code violation. Despite that, they let him do something (this is the part I am not sure of and wish someone would dig deeper) over the summer so that he could graduate. USC School of Law doesn’t offer summer school so he didn’t take his entire load of classes over. He was expelled or suspended from the school for a year like the honor code calls for. And he was allowed to get his diploma that August or September.

Well you clearly don’t know what you are talking about. USC SOL does offer summer classes. Also, Bakari Sellers served as state representative during the semester in question and was balancing attendance at USC with serving his constituents in the legislature. When there was a conflict, he chose to serve his constituents (admirable). Finally, there are several options for students who miss more than the allowed number of classes that allows them to sit for exams without violating the honor code. I’m also fairly certain he was never suspended or expelled. Get it together, Steve.

Let me answer a question with question: Who gives a shit?

And Big T, would you like me to respond with white names? Here, let me throw out one: Mark Sanford.

GrandTango May 9, 2013 at 12:09 pm

Mark Sanford was thoroughly investigated and charged heavy fines.
And his real “crime” was to cheat on his wife and kids. That’s NOT ILLEGAL!!!
Yet you want to jail him and compare him w/ ciminals. That’s how F&*#in STUPID you Leftwing Dirtbags are…

Reply
Dong May 10, 2013 at 8:19 am

I’m pretty sure violating a family court order can be described as illegal.

Reply
GrandTango May 10, 2013 at 9:17 am

Again: I’m SURE Sanford paid for his ‘crime’ (it was punished) to the full extent of the law.
The subject here is the offender going UNPUNISHED, and the trend that allows some Americans to walk Free, while others must ABIDE by our laws..and the DISGUSTING reason why we have two sets of laws…
You carping little @$$-holes are falling short in making your case…because you HAVE NONE!!!!

ARob June 7, 2013 at 1:29 pm

In the Sanford incident, an actual crime was committed. It can be a violation of the CSOL honor code to commit a crime, however, as in this case, it is not necessarily a crime to violate the CSOL honor code. Thus, I, for one, have no problem with the, “offender” being able to “walk free” because I don’t want to put people in jail just because they violated their college’s honor code. That’s why it’s called ‘Honor Code’ instead of ‘Criminal Code’. As far as the stalking charge goes, I’m sure Shun will be punished to the fullest extent of the law in the event he is convicted of the crime with which he is charged. Not defending Shun here, just pointing out the fact that the above post is moronic.

GrandTango June 7, 2013 at 2:15 pm

You’re actually just saying: It’s OK if a certain type of person does it…because you want to protect certain types based on your political ideology…
Maybe that’s not moronic…but it’s unjust, corrupt and un-American…
You are disgusting to support it….

Swingline May 10, 2013 at 9:00 am

Technically, GrandTango, you’re a fucking moron.

The only way an Honor Code can function properly is with a single sanction: removal from the community. You would think it wouldn’t come as a surprise to a guy named Shun.

He is a good kid. He’s been harassed, bullied, and god knows whatelse. I’m a student there and I don’t know him well but sure can say he dealt with a lot. From what I know he has done nothing wrong. Sad day when future lawyer act so stupid and spread lies everywhere. He has been through enough. Leave the kid alone. This is likely Whitney Wilder or Lauren Ellison. Good grief and god help us

Yeah, no surprise here. CSOL and the administration/founders there will bend over backwards if they think it may affect their bottom line. And yeah, they play the race card as hard as anyone. They’ve inducted the requisite number of black students into all of the honors organizations to maintain the image of diversity and there are always a few black students willing to accept the role of CSOL poster child. The only bright side to these kinds of things happening is that it’s a good preview of SC politics as a whole for new attorneys.

Got it wrong. Impeachment was overturned according to the school court. Mr. Griffin refused to take office again and asked the school not to report the reinstatement. Dean was pissed and urged Mr. Griffin to take resume duties. Funny how idiots at CSOL who hate this guy so left out something that is commonly known. But who gives a shit now. It’s over.

Reply
Felony Stalk May 13, 2013 at 1:35 pm

That is 100% factually false. He appealed the impeachment and lost. Furthermore, even if he had won, he would not have been able to resume office bc executive elections were already held. Additionally, it should be noted he was unanimously impeached with one senator abstaining from the procedure.

Shun is a great young man, who will go out of his way to help anyone. He has been through enough without people badgering him about something he did not do. We should do back ground checks on everyone at Charleston school, and write articles and bash people for all the dirt they have done. That’s what is wrong with people like yourselves today, you are so miserable with your own lives that you try to make someone else miserable with theirs. Shun is a strong young man, and he will overcome everyone’s negativity and continue to do great things in life.
