SC-1: WTF Are They Doing Here?

Federal “monitors” from the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) will be in the South Carolina Lowcountry for this week’s special congressional election, Reuters is reporting.

No reason was given for the agency’s decision to oversee the election – which it claims it has authority to do under the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Nor was any information provided regarding the number of monitors being dispatched – or how much taxpayers would have to shell out to pay for their presence.

Our guess … as many (and as much) as it takes.

This week’s race between former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford and Democratic nominee Elizabeth Colbert-Busch is extremely close – with the latest poll showing Sanford clinging to a one percent lead.

The election is also the first to be held in the state under a new law that requires voters to bring a photo identification card with them to the polls. The USDOJ fought to block this law in federal court, but their efforts were rebuked.

Does ECB have the juice with Obama to pull off a Florida 2000?

That would be something I didn’t see coming.

I don’t know, that would be a waste. ECB won’t buy them anything close to a majority in the House, and she doesn’t seem like anything special to begin with. If anything, assuming they are doing something underhanded, they would be better off focusing on keeping the Senate and other blue seats in 2014, as a lot of Democrats are retiring.

Sanford outperforms Romney and most other Republicans with black voters. The more the merrier. They will ensure his victory and reject the Democrat who refuses to condemn her party chairman’s racist attacks on Haley!

Gotta laugh my @$$ off @ FITS. What a Bumbling clown…
FITS bashed SC’s Voter ID law w/ lame Leftwing Fables and Clichés, claiming minority vote suppression. Yet we have one Obama voter CAUGHT casting at least 6 ballots..and she was likely just one of millions…
Now: The DOJ is coming to make sure FITS’ idiot gets cheated, and FITS is soiling himself…
I TOLD yall Obama sees the writing on the wall. He knows if his party is so weak, because he has weakened it, that a pretty clean D woman cannot beat a severely damaged R cretin like Sanford…His party is in trouble in 2014….
Obama’s presidency is virtually OVER if Sanford can win today…
So he’s sending the head Federal Cheaters in to secure the vote. I don think he can (because SC will fight back) but if Obama beats FITS w/ Fraud…it will be so laughable…

From the amount of good the Feds have done to clean up the corruption in South Carolina over the past ten years, even if they put an FBI agent on every street corner in SC1, nothing will happen. They had the goods on Toal and did nothing. They have done nothing with the Lexington, Richland and Horry county messes. But didn’t they do a great job getting a few pieces of paper in South Congaree! And nothing happened.

The Feds don’t seem to give a shit to clean up our own mess for us, but this election is for a congressional seat, so they may actually give a shit for once. Who knows? Maybe they’ve received tips on electoral fraud or something?

Romney won SC-1 by 18 pts and Obama won the presidency by 51% to 48%. The two do not converge at all.
The GOP will not pick up many seats at all in 2014 even under the best of circumstances. It is quite possible they will lose seats in 2014.
They only hold power in the House now because of gerrymandering. The majority of voters voted for a Democrat for House in 2012. The GOP holds nearly all of the seats they have any chance to win. Most likely the partisan divide in the house will change no more than 5-10 seats either way.

Reply
Smirks May 7, 2013 at 8:47 am

I would watch carefully. There seems to be a lot of Democrats retiring. Those seats may or may not be up for grabs, I know some of them are heavy blue states, but some aren’t.

Nah, in their postmortem, the Republicans discovered they had a “branding problem” and that the nation votes for Democrats because they’re a bunch of moochers and deadbeats.

Answer: Retrench.

The Republicans might have a few good elections, in small measure because the Dems suck, but the demographics portend beatings that even gerrymandering can’t mitigate.

They’re whistling past the graveyard.

You know what’s funny, the other day I was grabbing some coffee in a gas station(because I like living dangerously) and I noticed that La Socialista had a headline about the Richland County Robbery that was bemoaning the $150K lost over the “botched” election.

Hahahaha! I thought to myself-

“Self, that is a crazy ass good propaganda job the Statist Cheerleader is doing for Columbia gov’t in running interference, only in their twisted reality would someone bitch about $150k over the legalities of a mostly likely rigged, BUT DEFINITELY ILLEGAL election in which over $1 BILLION was swindled from the taxpayers.”

They do a good job of calming the sheeple while helping gov’t to fleece them.
