E-Cigs: Where Have These Been?

This website’s founding editor used to smoke two packs of Camel lights a day … sometimes more. That’s forty cigarettes … every day.

Fortunately, Sic Willie kicked the habit in late 2008 when his wife – the lovely Mrs. Sic – got pregnant with this little demon. Well … he quit smoking, anyway. For a few months after giving up the cancer sticks, he continued to chew nicotine gum (in mass quantities) until Mrs. Sic told him doing so was “bullshit” and that if she wasn’t allowed to have any nicotine, neither was he.

Sic maintains that quitting smoking was one of the best decisions he’s ever made … although this website has maintained its strenuous opposition to cigarette tax increases. Unfortunately neither the U.S. Congress – or the “Republican-controlled” S.C. General Assembly – listened.

Given a recent rash of state and local tax hikes on cigarettes – which have pushed per pack prices upwards of $5.50 even in dirt poor South Carolina – quitting smoking has never looked so good economically. And obviously it’s always looked good from a health standpoint.

But what about that “nicotine fix?” How can those who smoke because they are addicted to nicotine satisfy their cravings as well as their oral fixation?

Enter e-cigarettes, which use a battery-operated water vapor device to deliver nicotine to users with no smoke, no smell and no second-hand issues.

Genius, right?

And though e-cigs vary widely in price – depending on whether a user is buying disposable or refillable – they appear to be somewhat cheaper than conventional cigarettes.

Again … smoke free.

That’s amazing …

We’re not about to start smoking again, but if we were – e-cigarettes would be our clear choice. In fact we’re kinda pissed they we’re around back when we were polluting our lungs on a daily basis. Oh well, if you’re a smoker worried about your health (and your bottom line), you might want to give these nifty devices a try …

Vaporizing has been around for a while – here in CO the thing to do is “dab” hash on vapo-pens instead of actually smoking pot.

These things are about as queer as BigT. If you can’t make it through the day without sticking something hard and 4 inches long in your mouth you might as well just suck on a dick.

I think most cigs are shorter than that, as is probably the embarrassment of the dick with which you must be most familiar.

Talk to the guy who had the e-cig blow up in his mouth and he lost several teeth, part of his tongue and a piece of his lip. Are these things safe? Who the hell knows. They have not been tested and the FDA cannot do a damn thing about it either. If you are going to try it wait until the 4th of JULY AND REST OF USE CAN SAVE THE COST OF FIREWORKS AND WATCH THE E-CIGS BLOW UP.

It is the perfect opportunity for big tobacco companies to regain lost customers, sales, and revenue. They have the financial assets to either introduce their own products or acquire businesses like Lorillard. The e-cigarette industry is still in relative infancy when you examine the market. There are many competitors fighting over market share with not only e-cigarettes but also e-liquid. There are some companies that are holding significant blocks of market share but it is still in a state of flux. My concern is that federal pending regulations will actually aid big tobacco companies and let them take over and control the market which is only going to close up many smaller American companies and limit consumer choice.
