SC-1: Tie Ball Game

Former S.C. Gov. Former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford and Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch are tied in their increasingly heated battle for South Carolina’s first congressional district, according to a new poll from Red Racing Horses.

The poll – posted to the GOP-leaning website on Thursday – shows both candidates receiving 46 percent of the vote with 7 percent of voters undecided, results which jibe very well with other recent polling data we’ve published.

Most interestingly, in a hypothetical 2014 matchup for this same seat the Red Racing Horses poll shows Colbert-Busch trailing S.C. State Senator Larry Grooms – whose candidacy for this seat we endorsed two months ago – by a 47-40 percent margin.

“The disparate results among two candidates with similar ideologies suggests that Sanford’s personal troubles are indeed the main reason for Colbert-Busch’s strong performance in the heavily Republican district,” the pollsters conclude.

And they would be right …

With all the latest data showing this race as a virtual (and in this case an actual) tie, Sanford’s political comeback from his 2009 scandal has now reached its moment of decision. And while on the one hand it’s embarrassing that he’s tied with a Democrat in a district that GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney won by 18 points last November, Sanford can take comfort in the fact that he’s no longer nine points down.

Like I posted last night: We can win, regardless.
We either get a flawed, disgraced career politician, placed in a followers role, where he can do little harm, as long as he plays the political puppet, party-line, he is best at.
And he may be sittin’ pretty to get his @$$ kicked, in a Real election.
Or: We dispose of a flawed (bad penny) politician, Tuesday, with a seat-keeper..and we get the seat back in Conservative hands shortly..
Once this occurred to me, I became at peace with whatever happens….

Nope, won’t happen. He floored 14 candidates and walloped Bostic in a runoff. Those 15 candidates wouldn’t stand a chance, and many of them had experience as politicians and some name recognition. Good luck finding someone that has a better chance than them.

Either ECB wins or Sanford regains his career politician status, much to the dismay of SC.

You could be correct. But the perverted, like Sanford, thrive in non-traditional situations. And the whole series of events surrounding the current SC-1 race is tailor-made for a trash-man politician needing a break.
It will big for him (who he cares about, only) if he wins…but I would not lock him in that seat in ’til death. Sanford is similar to Bob Inglis. Sanford, relegated to the back-bench to sit down and shut up could force him to be outspoken. And once Inglis started running his mouth, according to his liberal-tarian instincts, he @$$ was gone, post-haste.

You hit the bullseye. If Sanford losses, he is finished politically. He was only competitive this time because he had leftover campaign funds. Those will be largely gone after next week.
As an incumbent congressman he will have no problem refilling the coffers. But if he loses, he will be defeated and broke WITHOUT a wealthy wife.
Sanford will be able to hold the seat for years to come if he wins. The one and only shot to put someone else in that seat (D or R) for the foreseeable future is on May 7.
PPP will do a new poll this weekend. That should be a good check against this outfit, which I have never heard of as a pollster. Are they the new Dick Morris? Time will tell.

“Red Racing Horses,” I’ll at least give them credit for admitting “While our blog is Republican-oriented…” However, I don’t know if it is is a great poll to go by.

Question: RRH says that they expect ECB to have a hard time fighting off Grooms in 2014 if she wins this election. I would imagine Sanford could easily wipe the floor once again with Grooms, with or without 14 other candidates running alongside them. Honestly, it makes perfect sense, that is why a district that voted for Romney is really struggling hard to choose between a shitty Republican and a so-so Democrat. Give her an actual competitor and she’ll likely end up packing her bags that December. If you supported Larry, why the fuck did you want Sanford to win?

Again, ECB should win if for nothing else than to oust Sanford and axe his political career, hopefully for good. Maybe she’ll do good (depending on your politics anyways), but if not, let a better candidate run next time, beat her, and wash hands regarding the both of them. If SC (and honestly, a lot of other states) would stop voting one side every fucking time regardless of how shitty the candidate is, if people would be willing to vote for someone they may not 100% agree with just to oust a self-serving assclown of the highest order, maybe government would be just a bit more inclined to serve the people. Make it in their own best interests to do their jobs properly and you’ll be surprised at how things will improve.

So…. an admitted “republican leaning” polling firm finds this to be a tie in a district that Romney won by like 18 points? If I were Sanford, I’d raise the white flag now and save himself from further embarrassment.

“It would not take a rocket scientist to say politics was over for me,”
Sanford tells Stein, in a bit of understatement highlighted only by the
fact that Sanford still believes politics is not over for him. “We take
sinners out in body bags in South Carolina.”

Sanford, the beats all odds hero. Very disingenuous. Seems to me there is great precedent in SC for just leaving those sinners be to continue doing what they do.

Every step he took in 2008 (covertly continuing another affair that he arrogantly thought he would never be caught at, while neglecting wife and family) and 2009 (press conference and AP interview framing his philandering this time around as a sanctioned by the Almighty soul mate connection) to present (never-ending Apology Tour, “never say never” taking his “journey”) was all about preservation of his career (not so much his family.) The only bump in the road he had to overcome was Jenny not taking him back – not good optics…so he substituted an engagement with the “long- suffering” mistress for palatability. It’s all good by him and he reminded us good Christians forgive.

If I had my way, he’d lose and we’d be rid of the daily embarrassment this self-serving cretin brings. But I’m preparing myself for the worst (he wins.)
That said: if there is any truth to the tie, Sanford is the incumbent, based on name ID, so I’d say that’s looks good for her.
And Sanford being rejected makes SC look good.

I’m predicting he’ll just edge this because when it comes down to it people are not going to willingly vote for a leftist, pro-choice, Pelosi stooge backed by the hated unions who have their own clear agenda. Sanford will need a low turnout which he will get and for GOP voters to feel uneasy about backing the enemy.

John Duncan May 3, 2013 at 8:01 pm

The only thing i’m “sorry” about is a radical, pro-choice business hating fanatic being on the ballot and presented as some kind of “choice” for the residents of SC-1!

Lord help us if she’s elected. Democrats according to Breitbart news are planning to use her victory should she pull it off as a springboard to take back the House in 2014 and impose more socialism on the American people:

—-
“The Republicans are missing it,” the source said. “They don’t
understand how hard the Democrats are competing here.” This is the first congressional election since Obama’s reelection, the source noted. Their only focus is winning back the House in 2014.

“If Democrats win here,” the source said, “they can make the case to the political investor community around the country that they can take back the House.” The decision of national Republicans not to aggressively contest this seat could haunt them next year.
—-

This is why it’s vital we deny her a victory and elect Mark Sanford. The very future of America is at stake.

There are reports from the district that signs for him are outnumbering the Democrat enemy 3-1!

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Democrats are lacking sufficient enthusiasm in a heavily Republican district despite spending nearly $2 million.

As flawed as Sanford is these people are not going to endorse a radical, leftist, pro-choice, business hating fanatic especially in a low turnout situation where reliable GOP voters are going to show up.

No way on earth are these people going to vote for the Pelosi backed candidate not even at gun point !

Sanford should get to 51^ easily and stun the world’s media.
