“Majority Leader” Bruce Bannister took to the well of the S.C. House of Representatives this week to pat himself on the back for voluntarily eliminating his “leadership PAC,” which is a political action committee used by ranking lawmakers to reward loyal subordinates (a.k.a. buying votes).
Bannister formed his “Leadership PAC” in 2008 with a personal $500 contribution – however the entity never amounted to much. Unlike the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised by House Speaker Bobby Harrell’s political action committee, Bannister’s PAC never raised more than $10,000 in any election cycle.
It was a dud, in other words …
Of course the little bit of money Bannister’s PAC did raise went to support “Republicans in Name Only” like former S.C. Rep. Joan Brady (RINO-Richland), whose fiscal record was so terrible we actually endorsed her Democratic opponent.
Anyway …
Bannister wants us to believe he’s some sort of selfless, crusading reformer for doing away with his PAC – but the truth is he’s taking a victory lap for getting rid of something that never amounted to anything in the first place.
So “thanks for nothing,” man … which, incidentally, is a statement that can be applied to the “reform in name only” ethics legislation approved this week by Bannister’s “Republican-controlled” S.C. House.
