The S.C. Supreme Court released the results of the Palmetto State’s February 2013 bar exam last week … which is always good news for us because it results in extensive bloodletting in our comments section among graduates of South Carolina’s two underperforming law schools.
Seriously … you people haven’t seen bare-knuckled brawling until you’ve witnessed the seersucker wearing legions of the University of South Carolina law school assail the madras-clad hordes from the Charleston School of Law (and vice versa).
Anyway, the February 2013 results are in and both schools actually posted nice gains from the previous year. USC saw its passage rate climb to 75 percent (from 57.8 percent), while CSOL saw its rate climb to 59.2 percent (from 40.3 percent).
As usual, students from South Carolina’s two schools were outperformed by students from “other law schools” – although the gap was smaller this year than it has been in years past.
South Carolina’s bar exam – administered twice annually – has been marred by controversy in previous years. In fact six years ago the Supreme Court threw out an entire section of the exam – allegedly part of an effort to artificially raise the passage rate for CSOL.

Looks like FITS, and his hatred for everything South Carolina, is FOILED again..
LMAO…Another Truck just flattened Wile E. Coyote (FITS)…
Tough break FITS….While Contempt for us may be a Liberal-Tarain virtue…it seems to be kicking your reputation in the @$$…
What are you talking about? The fact that improvement was shown over last year’s results? There may have been improvement, but those numbers are nothing to write home about. As “Squishy” said, SC’s Bar is one of the easiest in the country. The passage rate should be higher. And the fact that “students from South Carolina’s two schools were outperformed by students from ‘other law schools'” on the exam is an embarrassment to SC’s law schools.
So. How many have jobs in the legal profession as attorneys?
I heard on NPR yesterday that there is a severe nationwide shortage of immigration lawyers.
Do the law schools let their students know that?

So, how did the architects do on their exam? What about CPAs? How about engineers?
Obviously, it’s law school that Sic couldn’t get into.

Just sad, considering South Carolina’s Bar Exam is one of the easiest in the country.
It doesn’t matter how “hard” or “easy” this bar exam might be in South Carolina. As Jean Toal showed South Carolina a few years ago, it’s whatever she wants it to be. She decides who passes and who fails if it is close. The Board of Examiners only makes a recommendation to Dan Sherouse, Jean’s do-boy clerk. Jean and Dan go over the list and determine who passes and who fails. End of story.
EXACTLY, The entire Bar Exam is fixed.
They decide who they want, and who they don’t.
Just try and pass the SC Bar Exam if you didn’t graduate from USC Law School, or even that joke in Charleston. Not going to happen. They deliberately block out of State Lawyers from practicing in SC. That’s why there is no reciprocity between SC and any other State. It’s all fixed, and piss them off, or get disbarred in one of their puppet courts; and they’ll never let you practice again. Regardless of them letting you take the exam.
dont know where you got the idea that out of state law schools grads are deliberately blocked. i didnt go to USC and there was no CSOL when I took it and i passed on the first attempt. i will say it was easier than the NC bar but i dont think it was harder than ga, va, tenn or ky.
Have you taken the GA, VA, TN, or KY exams?
Any children of politically well connected parents who can benefit Jean, please call me at your earliest convenience if you failed this bar exam. Especially if your father is in the Senate and can get Jean’s reign extended four more years. We like to do sneaky things on Friday afternoons so whatever we do will not hit the press. Democrats get priority, remember.
Yeah I forgot, if you fail a section you can just have your daddy call ol’ Mean Jean and she’ll toss that section out.

It is sometimes downright amusing to read comments on here. I wonder what facts you folks are using to throw down the qualification that ours is one of the easiest bar exams in the nation. Have you taken it? Have you also taken bar exams in other states? Are you even aware that all bar exams have a multistate portion of the exam that is taken by everyone in every state? I have taken the exam. I have no idea whether our state portion of the exam is harder or easier than the state portion in other states and have never heard folks who’ve taken the exam in more than one state opine on the issue.
I can, however, speak to the accusation that folks from other states are blocked. Year after year students from out-of-state law schools sit for our exam and come to practice with firms and agencies in our state, which would suggest to me that they pass at the same rates as our in-state folks. When I took the bar, it was a three day exam. I don’t remember walking away feeling like it was something I wanted to do again.
Is it still a three day exam? I remember walking out of the exam thinking that I would never have to see 90% of these asskisers again. I passed it despite being hungover the first two days. I had a friend who was very smart fail it on the first time. It all is about how relaxed you are while taking it.
Yes, it’s still 3 days

For what it’s worth, many of the USC and CSOL grads taking the February exam failed the August exam, so you are not getting the best students from those schools this time around. A few are December graduates. The August pass rates are much higher as a result, at least for USC Law.
With other schools, many of those are taking the SC Bar exam for the first time, often as a second bar after having taken Georgia or NC last summer.

It is a curved exam. How easy or difficult it is in comparison to the exams in other states has no bearing on pass rates.

A guy walks into a bar and sees a gorgeous woman nursing a drink.
Walking up behind her he says: “Hi there, good lookin’. How’s it going?”
Having already downed a few power drinks, she turns around, faces him,
looks him straight in the eye and says: “Listen up, buddy. I screw
anybody, anytime, anywhere, your place, my place, in the car, front
door, back door, on the ground, standing up, sitting down, naked or with
clothes on,dirty, clean… It just doesn’t matter to me. I’ve been doing
it ever since I got out of college and I just flat-ass love it.”
Eyes now wide with interest, he responds: “No kidding. I’m a lawyer too. What firm are you with?”

SC was on par with NC and IL — just longer. It was more difficult to study for – BarBri appears to have less of a toe-hold than the other two, which have very complete outlines. The BarBri folks kept pushing the advance sheets, which had me a little worried, but everything seemed standard with the exam, as compared to the other two (though neither of those is ranked as very tough, either — Illinois is supposed trying to toughen it up this year …).

HA ha. This is a joke post right!? There is no such school as the Charleston school of law. Right?

Wander if the bar exam tests on how to handle trust accounts? I heard that there’s an attorney in Florence that is in all kinds of trouble for “mishandling” funds from a trust account.
there’s a separate exam on ethics and professional responsibility. If I remember correctly you only have to get 70% correct to pass

Having taken the SC and DC bars. I can attest to the fact that the DC bar exam is absolute joke compared to the SC bar exam. For the wizards of smart that have never been in the legal community, DC administers a very similar exam to a substantial minority of states. Also, I went to USC Law and passed the first time.
