Aircraft manufacturer Boeing – which lives off of taxpayer-funded incentives, crony capitalist loans and government contracts – is spending some of its ill-gotten largesse on a national advertising campaign aimed at convincing the public its troubled 787 Dreamliners are safe.

Some of those ads are even appearing here on FITS (via a Google Ads placement) …

“On April 19th, 2013, the Federal Aviation Administration approved the improvements to the 787 battery systems,” the ad states. “With this approval, the Dreamliner will be back in service and soaring once again.”

Boeing is referring to last week’s decision by the FAA to lift its three-month grounding of the plane – which experienced problems with is lithium ion batteries catching on fire. The company still hasn’t figured out what caused the conflagrations, by the way.

“It is not uncommon not to have found the single root cause,” one of its executives said, according to the BBC.

Hmmmm … that’s encouraging (not).

“The 787 was built on the foundation of safety – to date, more than 1 million passengers have already traveled on the Dreamliner and more than 18,000 flights have safely taken place,” the ad continues. “Our robust, innovative 787 technology makes it possible to navigate, monitor the weather, check the conditions at airports and track the health of the airplane.”

Originally scheduled for delivery in May of 2008, numerous design, supply and delivery problems pushed Dreamliner’s deadline back more than three years – causing numerous cancellations. And when it finally did start flying, that’s when the battery problems began.

South Carolina is heavily invested in the 787 – shelling out more than $900 million in taxpayer funded incentives to land a manufacturing facility for the plane in North Charleston, S.C. More recently, the state has approved another $120 million in incentives to help the company build a new “center of excellence” in the Lowcountry.

All we can say at this point is this plane better damn well be safe …

No wonder FITS is acting as an Apologist for the Muslim, Child-killer Jihadists…He hates America as much as the Terrorists…of course FITS likely thinks Mass. is the bomb (no pun.) It’s his kind of state (liberal)…

I’d just LOVE to see FITS (and any of his America-hater followers) living in one of the countries they think is so much better than the U.S.

Damn, what took you so long to make it about Muslims and your problem with staying on topic? You and your weedeater took off to Maurice’s?

Last weekend I had an extensive conversation with an engineer from Boeing. His “normal” project is the new AF tanker. He, along with other engineers at Boeing, was “drafted” to work on the 787 problem. The “problem” (as usual) was not the big deal that media (and Sic Willie) loves to make of these type situations. A plane was not going to “go down” because of it. The “fix” was relatively simple.

I wouldn’t knock the severity of a battery catching on fire on a plane. That isn’t something you want happening when you’re halfway across the Pacific/Atlantic Ocean.

That being said, there’s an undeniable “witch hunt” atmosphere against Boeing on this site. We know, we know, “incentives r wrong!” Willie treats Boeing like a bad ex he still has feelings for.

Smirks, as told to me, it was more smoke than fire. The plane’s ventilation system vented the smoke to the cargo hold as per design. Of course you want none of the above to occur, but the danger, as usual, was blown out of proportion by media.

I think you all miss the point. The smoldering battery is located on a rack in the cargo that also holds the aeronautics computer systems. While there is a manual backup, it is extremely dangerous to have fire near these systems and have a CPU failure due to it.

So is SC so insecure we have to put our logo on the side of a plane. Reminds me of “it’s a great day…….”

It is for Boeing, NIMRATA just gave them another $120million.
Don’t worry though, it isn”t real money, it’s just “incentives”.
Total now is ONE BILLION TWENTY MILLION!!
