As we reported exclusively three weeks ago, former Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) analyst Larry Sypolt will run for mayor of Columbia, S.C. this November – stressing his ability to deal with the capital city’s growing crime problem.
Sypolt formally announced his intentions at a press conference this week in Five Points – a downtown shopping district that has been plagued by rampant lawlessness in recent months.
“His platform will include plans for restructuring the police department in order to more effectively utilize budgets and manpower, implementation of mentoring programs for youth and young adults who have entered the judicial system, business development for areas like Five Points, and neighborhood preservation and beautification projects,” a release from Sypolt’s campaign notes.
In addition to incumbent mayor Steve Benjamin, city councilman Moe Baddourah has also announced his candidacy for the mayor’s office.
Elected in April 2010, Benjamin has been a disaster as mayor – starting with a car crash (and ensuing cover up) the very morning after he was elected.
Meanwhile his hand-picked police chief (i.e. the guy who took the job after this scandal) was recently placed on indefinite suspension in the wake of a host of unsavory allegations.

A mere 16 years ago, Sypolt was found GUILTY after a bench trial for disregarding a red light and was SENTENCED to a $94 dollar fine. Disgraceful!! Our current Mayor makes his traffic problems go away, which is a testament to his awesome political abilities. BENJAMIN for LIFE!

He sounds like another of Leon Lott’s finger puppets. Leon has worked hard to place his puppets in strategic places for the last few years. Dan Johnson in the Solicitor’s office, Jim Matthews as Kershaw County Sheriff, and Randy Scott as Chief of Columbia PD. If that weren’t enough, his boy Reuben is backing Scott’s play at CPD.
When are people going to say “enough” to Leon’s little kingdom?
Seems like you always have something negative to say about Sheriff Lott. When are people going to say “enough” to CorruptionInColumbia being the damn resident expert on everything Leon Lott touches? You must be some of the dead weight he dropped from the department. Get a life you sleazy fuck.
