File this one under “thanks, but no thanks.”

Former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford – who is running as limited government, pro-taxpayer conservative in South Carolina’s first congressional district – received an endorsement this week from U.S. Speaker John Boehner, the Granddaddy of big government “Republicans” in Washington, D.C.

“This election offers the voters of South Carolina’s First Congressional District a clear choice between a Republican who will work to reduce spending, balance the budget and grow the economy, and a Democrat who will stand with President Obama’s policies that are making it harder for people to find work,” Boehner’s office said in a statement. “The Speaker supports our Republican nominee and knows that, if elected, Mr. Sanford will work tirelessly to help expand opportunities for all Americans.”

Wait … what? Boehner wants to lecture voters in the first district on the “differences” between Republicans and Democrats?

Please …

If there was ever a walking encapsulation of the total lack of difference between “Republicans” and Democrats in Washington, D.C., it’s Boehner. Seriously … Sanford might as well have received an endorsement from Obama himself.

Ironically, the perception here is that Boehner is the one putting his neck on the line for Sanford …

Why? Well, national “Republicans” don’t like the fact that Sanford has stepped back onto the political stage. We don’t either, particularly, which is why we endorsed one of his opponents in last month’s GOP primary. Still, Sanford was a far better fiscal choice than his GOP runoff opponent Curtis Bostic, and is a far better fiscal choice than Democratic nominee Elizabeth Colbert-Busch – whom he will face in next month’s special election.

Recent polls show Colbert-Busch with a slim lead over the former governor in this GOP-leaning district …

Why wouldn’t a Boner endorse Sanford? Sanford has boner chops.

Congress has an approval rating in the very low teens…..Boehner even lower……so this is carrying a really low WOW factor .Congress is controlled by Republicans, what exactly is one more going to do? Just one more to stand around a few months out of the year doing nothing, drawing govt paychecks and making use of govt insurance…….Someone PLEASE tell me one thing Sanford accomplished while in Washington, other than going to South America with other politicians to Blow off steam.

That does it for me – no vote for Mark with Boehner as an ally.

Like, who else would he endorse, ECB? He wants to keep the majority. Maybe this would have more meaning if he did it pre-run-off election, …or maybe not…. Did Boehner blow off steam with him like Davis?
