Curtis Bostic’s $222 Million Lie

Talk about tax dollars vanishing …

While “Republican” congressional candidate Curtis Bostic continues to tout his “conservative” ideology, his primary example of “unifying conservatives around conservative ideas” continues to unravel.

On his campaign website (and during a recent debate), Bostic boasted of his role in pushing a so-called private sector conservation initiative called the “Greenbelt Bank.” According to Bostic this “innovative” deal was funded exclusively with “private donations.”

“Curtis authored and then fought for the adoption of Charleston’s now widely popular Greenbelt Bank,” his webpage, StopSpending.com states. “To date this innovative and highly successful program has garnered over $59 million dollars to facilitate the purchase of over 15,000 acres in parks and greenspace without using tax payer dollars.”

The problem? The Greenbelt Bank is using tax dollars … $222 million of them (as we reported exclusively last month).

Not only that, FITS has delved deeper into this program and discovered a whopping $70.4 million of that total is … wait for it … interest payments. That’s right. According to Charleston County administrators, that’s what Bostic’s brainchild is costing taxpayers in borrowing costs alone.

All for land the vast majority of them will never be permitted to see … let alone enjoy.

What a ridiculous plan. Assuming you think land conservation is a core function of government (we don’t) … why on earth would a government ever purchase property like this outright? Why not use conservation easements instead?

Mark our words: Charleston County taxpayers aren’t done paying for this boondoggle … not by a long shot.

Bostic faces scandal-scarred former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford in the GOP runoff election for the state’s first congressional district. The winner of that race will go up against former six-figure taxpayer bureaucrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, in a special election in May.

These three candidates are vying for the seat vacated earlier this year by Tim Scott, the Palmetto State’s newly appointed U.S. Senator.

Adoption agency or human trafficking agency? Would that be illegal or just immoral?

Most of the free World illegal and immoral, however in South Carolina will probably receive Commerce Department’s Business of the Year Award

You may not think welfare for large landowners is a core function of government but Mark Sanford sure the hell does.

We have a wizard behind the curtain in DC so I do not guess it hurts to have one in every county in the state of South Carolina. At least we wont be the first to declare bankruptcy. I think I will move to Stockton,California.

Lord I hope this frantic and ignorant persecution of Bostic by FITS, means Sanford is losing to him.
I take some solace in the fact that FITS has not published any credible poll, and neither has The State newspaper, another Sanford sycophant.

Paul Thurmond (eased into office by Glenn McConnell) wanted his client to collect $5.1 million for FEE SIMPLE transfer, far in excess of a more reasonable easement as Will suggests above. (Here, about $900,000.)

And fee simple “greenbelt” deals are what both the “Greenbelt Bank Board” and the Charleston Post and Courier recommend to Charleston County Council.

It’s in the best interest of taxpayers, “the best bang for the buck.”

Thurmond pocketed $100,000 in “legal fees” after persuading most County Council Members to simply write a $5.1 million check to his client.

With the exception of Dickie Schweers and Herb Sass, I wouldn’t trust a single member of that Council, which acts like the greenbelt money is “play money.”

Even worse was including one on ramp for 526 for John’s Island on the 2004 half cent sales tax that was not even a project at the time. So what were voters supposed to think, that if 526 was built they wouldn’t have an access ramp to it? The other access ramp on the half cent sales tax was for Glenn McConnell for existing 526 that was built with no access ramp at this location. Then one year later County Council, including Bostic, voted to reallocate 350 million for 526 and the Navy Base, so about 175 million for 526, and the only mention of it was the single on ramp which is about 7 million. I don’t know how much more crooked you can get and astounded that no one gives a shit about misinforming the public. However after this much time Im going to have to let it go if no one else cares about defrauding the tax payers with a bait and switch like this.
