In an era when scant deference is paid to the Constitution, we basically have a majoritarian system (democracy) that is completely exploited by the special interest lobbies that know how to work the system and gain consolidated benefits with diffused costs. Too many politicians go along as they too benefit by getting consolidated benefits to their districts with costs spread across the nation that in the collective adversely affect all American taxpayers and consumers.

There are only two politicians that I know who have the courage to stand up to the special interests: Ron Paul and Mark Sanford. With Sanford, I saw it up close. As a member of the S.C. Budget and Control Board, on two occasions I wilted under special interest pressure. Not Sanford. He was absolutely fearless. In fact, he inspired me to be more fiscally responsible and I resolved to never compromise my principles again.

Unfortunately, I was reckless in my personal life and was unable to provide the swing vote Sanford needed as a bulwark against profligate state spending. That’s a mistake I’ll pay for the rest of my life. It’s not enough to say that we need to cut the fat out of government; we also need to cut the meat and bone of it. It also needs restructuring.

Sanford has been talking about restructuring Medicaid to increase quality and reduce costs. With Medicaid, there are perverse incentives to not innovate or to be efficient. Because there’s a matching state/federal formula, if the state found a way to save money, there’d be little incentive to do so as it would mean most of the money saved would be returned to the Federal Government.

As a former Governor, Sanford knows this better than anyone. At one of our country’s most pressing hours, with the economic system careening from one crisis to the next, I can not think of another person more suited to send to Washington. And so I urge all of my friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors to vote Sanford For Congress.

“It is clear the 1st district is hungry for the real world leadership and business experience that Elizabeth would bring to Washington and her focus on commonsense solutions, fiscal responsibility and creating new jobs clearly resonate with voters,” said campaign spokesman James Smith. “From her time as a single mother of three making $6.25 an hour to her twenty year career as a businesswoman creating jobs at South Carolina’s Ports, Elizabeth has shown that she is real world problem solver who will stand up to the dysfunctional, partisan politics of Washington and do what’s right for South Carolina families and businesses.”

What a group?… Pasacal “Mr. Coacaine Tourist” Ectcheber was best buds with co-defendant of Thomas Ravenel and Pasquale “Cocaine Smuggler” Pellicoro. Then, you had Michael “Just Sharing” Miller selling cocaine to everyone he can find, And you have Thomas “Just Sharing” Ravenel, was initially indicted with 500 grams of cocaine. Now, write this down, “just sharing”, you got it? just sharing I said, just sharing! now remeber that, just sharing.

Mr. Sewell, oh yes we can & had better begin asking more. When people are elected & accept the public’s trust, we must expect them to keep their pants zipped & their nose clean – at least while they’re in office . If that trust is willfully broken, being honest about it & seeking redemption after the fact may be admirable, but that’s a poor reason to give them ANOTHER opportunity to make our state a national laughing stock. Nobody is perfect & forgiveness is just fine, but character matters & neither Sanford nor T-Rav seem to have much. If Sanford gets reelected, I’d vote for expelling that entire district from the State of South Carolina.

Forgiving sins and trust are two different things. Forgiveness is available for the asking, but trust must be earned. Neither of these guys have done anything as yet that would entitle them to trust. I’m sorry just is not enough. Regaining trust takes far far longer than they have allowed, and it should.

Let me clear things up for you. Ravenal DID do drugs, AND he sold them, and he brokered the money to pay a mule to bring cocaine to SC from Texas. I wasn’t there, so I can’t verify that, but all of this was in the Discovery filed on behalf of the Post & Courier that was conveniently swept away. Ravenal is a scum bag drug dealer who sold cocaine to at least one College age female (again, according to the missing statements), lied, held sex and drug parties in his home, and was “known” to trade cocaine for sex to quite a few needy females.
Then when caught, he started the poor me I’m an addict song and dance, while rolling over on anyone/everyone he could.

I respect Sanford for releasing his financial disclosure. Not many people can earn 125k from FoxNews, or any news outlet, so I suppose that’s why people are ready to move on. I think everyone is different. For me drug use or infidelity is wrong but definitely not as bad as selling out to special interest that is so rampant in SC politics, especially Charleston County. Ravenel and Sanford are also in good shape which also counts for something. I mean if someone can take care of themselves that says a lot about them. I’ll be voting for Colbert Busch this time but think this is a good letter and hope Sanford and Ravenel have their best days ahead of them. People should care more about how their tax money is spent than moral issues.
