Saluda, S.C. Mayor Frank Addy has committed suicide, Newberry County coroner Craig Newton tells WIS TV 10 (NBC – Columbia, S.C.). The 58-year-old politician apparently shot himself in the head with a shotgun at a family residence on Lake Greenwood.
Addy had been the focus of a S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigation probing alleged travel irregularities, although it’s not immediately clear whether his suicide is related to the charges against him.
Saluda – like many rural municipal governments in South Carolina – is a cesspool of corruption. Last summer, the county’s sheriff was indicted for his role in an inmate labor scandal – one of several that has taken place in the state in recent months. A few weeks later the town of Saluda’s chief of police Michael Clancey abruptly resigned his post without providing a reason.
Sources in Saluda tell FITS Booth, Clancey and Addy represent the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the area’s problems …
“The entire town council needs to be investigated for corruption,” our source says.
Obviously we’ll keep an eye on Saluda, but it’s hard to feel hopeful for these parts of the state. Or the other parts of the state, for that matter.
Generally, it’s pretty hard to feel hopeful for South Carolina.

“The entire town council needs to be investigated for corruption.” Hear that Hazel?
So Hazel serves on town council while receiving a commission check from Herndon Chevy for selling vehicles to the town? And Halfacre is both mayor and head of chamber? Is this possibly on the up and up?

Whether or not Mr. Addy was a corrupt politician is irrelevant. There will likely be findings confirming or denying his involvement in a number of what appear to be shady deals.
Right now, this man’s family hasn’t lost a corrupt politician. They’ve lost a loved one. Please be cognizant of that.
They lost a loved one and I am sure that must be painful. However, it was his choice to inflict that pain.
How selfish he was.

Maybe we’re told suicide. Maybe it was foul play. We are only told what they want us to know.

Odds are that other elected/appointed officials will take notice and for a few seconds reflect on their on own behavior and consequences
Waiting for more. There ain’t “more”. The cockroaches will reflect and then business as usual

I know you guys print whatever rumors, whispers, and speculation you want, but why would you feel the need to use a subhead like this? You are talking about a real person with children, a wife, siblings. Is there no limit on your cruel and callous sensationalism?
Shouldn’t you be over there mourning with the clan rather than sitting on your ass reading headlines.

Keep corruption local – abolish DC.

Very sad for his family. If he was guilty of a crime all he had to do was wait it out. The Gaston Gang stalled a trial for 4 yrs before all 3 pleaded guilty last Oct. Now nearly 6 more months have gone by and they have still not been sentenced. Justice delayed is Justice denied.
And then there is Sidney Hursey. How many years will pass?
And then there is Jean Toal – the mother of all corrupt officials. SLED – what a joke. Robert Stewart and Reggie Lloyd could have brought her down and both took the political way out.

To whomever is writing this keep in mind Saluda is a good town, with good people! Please, let us not slander in this time of remourse. Let us pray, for Frank and his family, and remember the possitives that we all have of him!
Sounds good but I don’t know the guy so all I have to go by is what is reported which is that a public official suspected and being investigated of corruption blew his own head off on Easter Sunday. Damn nice way to say goodbye, now that grieving family can think of that for the rest of their life: Easter, a holy day. Selfish right to the end. Couldn’t even go out in the yard where the buzzards could clean up his mess, he made the family deal with it. You were saying, positives? Please share

The Greenwood paper quoted the SLED spokesman as saying they are dropping their investigation.
Why? There are many steps in claiming government mileage. Approvals have to be given…
I know we all know that law enforcement is corrupt in our state. But, does SLED have to slap us in the face with their habitual looking out for the powers that be, where ever they be.

Get your facts straight, Clancey reported improper and illegal activity in the town and county to state and federal officials for 3 years but no one cared. He resigned “abruptly” because of frustration over discipline regarding an officer who committed unsuitable and illegal acts while employed as a police officer. His recommendations were overturned and dismissed. Clancey continually held the bar high for his personnel and terminated those who lied! If we are looking for someone to blame, consider the fact that two people had to sign those checks while the town administrator was responsible for budgetary issues. So if you want the truth go ask them? This article was so inaccurate it is not just harmful but insulting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just hours before this, my son was in a fatal wreck at the circle, at the same exact time, another young man died in a different car wreck, he was also from Greenwood. God must have been really mad that night. By the way, thanks SCHP for not notifying me of my son’s wreck
