S.C. Rep. Peter McCoy (R-James Island) is not among the frontrunners in this week’s first congressional district primary race … but he makes a good point about some of his colleagues who are.

McCoy, as it turns out, was the only elected member of the S.C. General Assembly who bothered to show up for his government job today.

“It is shocking that the other elected officials in this race neglected their duty to serve their constituents in the General Assembly today to instead promote their own self interests,” McCoy wrote on his Facebook page. “This is part of the reason why I am running – I am running to put the next generation above the next election. If we had less career-minded politicians like my opponents – our budgets would be balanced, our debt reduced, and our neighbors back to work.”

Pretty good …

Obviously were McCoy among the frontrunners in this election, we suspect he’d have played hooky today too – but the point remains a valid one.

For example S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse (RINO-Charleston) frustrated his legislative colleagues by basically abandoning his post on the S.C. Ways and Means committee for the last three months and giving his “proxy” to fiscal liberal B.R. Skelton (RINO-Pickens).

Ironic, considering FITS, the guy missed more than 100 votes last session. You didn’t print that though…
