Chip Limehouse’s Disappearing Anti-Handgun Bill

Until this week, S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse (RINO-Charleston) was the lead sponsor of H.3052, one of several knee-jerk, anti-Second Amendment bills pushed by big government backers in response to last December’s Newtown, Connecticut school shooting. Until this week, S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse (RINO-Charleston) was the lead sponsor of H.3052, one of several knee-jerk, anti-Second Amendment bills pushed by big government backers in response to last December’s Newtown, Connecticut school shooting.

Now? Not so much …

Limehouse’s name no longer appears alongside Democrats Wendell Gilliard and Mia McLeod as sponsors of the anti-handgun legislation, which is currently sitting in the S.C. House Judiciary Committee awaiting a hearing. That’s good … Limehouse should have never supported this bill in the first place.

Of course to hear him tell it, he never did … which is where our story gets interesting.

Limehouse, you see, is one of sixteen candidates seeking the GOP nomination for the first congressional district seat vacated earlier this year by newly appointed U.S. Sen. Tim Scott. In fact after pumping more than $600,000 of his own money into the race, Limehouse is viewed as one of the five or six frontrunners for the seat (despite his fiscally liberal voting record).

Obviously a big anti-gun controversy on the eve of a big election wouldn’t do … which is why steps appear to have been taken on Limehouse’s behalf to scrub any record of his previous sponsorship of this bill.

More on that in a moment …

Limehouse took to social media to address the controversy, posting a hunting picture (below) along with a message in which he reaffirms his supposed pro-Second Amendment views.

“I am proud of my A+ rating from the National Rifle Association,” Limehouse wrote. “As a gun owner and sportsman, I have stood up for our freedoms and will do the same in Washington. False, last-minute attacks on the eve of an election don’t change my proven record. I am a life member of the NRA and will always stand up for South Carolina.”

Wait … what?

“False, last-minute attacks?”

As much as Limehouse might wish otherwise, you can’t just make things disappear from the internet.

For example, the website Palmetto Gun Rights – which opposes Limehouse’s bill – still lists him as its primary sponsor on its bill tracking page. Then there’s the website Legiscan, which as of this week still listed Limehouse as the primary sponsor of the bill.

Of course the most compelling evidence attesting to Limehouse’s prior sponsorship of this legislation is this archived screen capture from the S.C. General Assembly’s home page – SCStateHouse.gov – which clearly shows Limehouse as the primary sponsor of the bill (as of last week).

Take a look …

Ruh-roh …

Here’s Limehouse’s problem: Whenever a member of the S.C. General Assembly adds or removes their name as a sponsor of specific legislation (as it appears he did in this case), the clerk of their respective body is required to make a note of it.

That’s how the public is able to hold their lawmakers accountable.

So … why didn’t that happen here? Could it be that the lawmaker in question is at a very critical moment in a political campaign which has drained him of more than half a million dollars?

Calls to Charles Reid, clerk of the S.C. House of Representatives, were not immediately returned. Limehouse’s campaign also did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Looks like the bill’s web page was last updated yesterday at 5:13pm. If Limehouse makes the runoff this is one more hole in his “Conservative” narrative.

All this law does is creates an increasing penalty for unlawful carry, sale, or delivery of a firearm, including a third strike provision that goes from a misdemeanor to a felony. I’m not one for rigid treatment of a general offense, which could range from “Oops I fucked up again by accident” to “Oops I’m a thug who can’t stop breaking the law,” but I wouldn’t consider it “anti-handgun legislation.”

If Chip wants to pretend he’s something he never was, he should at least pick up a can of Slim Fast and pretend he’s trying to attract voters with something other than his gravitational pull.

Anti-Handgun advocacy? Did you read the bill? Are you pro unlawful carry? I thought the NRA mantra was enforce gun laws?

The reason Congressman’s Limehouse’s name no longer appears on the Bill in question is really quite simple; it is because Chip did not co sponsor the Bill as reported and does not support it. When it was discovered that his name appeared on the Bill APPROPRIATE steps were taken. Now the million dollar question is who placed his name on the Bill and why? Could it be that someone is trying to discredit him? You be the judge! The bottom line is Chip Limehouse is a Life Time Member of the National Rifle Association and has an A+ Rating by the NRA!!! Chip Limehouse is dedicated to protecting the 2nd Amendment Rights of the citizen, period!!! Doin’t believe me, check his voting record!!!

He didn’t co-sponsor it, he was the primary sponsor. The House journal still shows Limehouse as introducing H3052: http://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess120_2013-2014/hj13/20130108.htm#p67

Just an error? March 19, 2013 at 2:54 pm

I took a look at the link. Limehouse was the sponsor of the bill right before it, H3051. Not saying that this is what happened, but it could have been a clerical error incorrectly listing him as the sponsor of H3052 by accident and that is why it was fixed?

I am an avid reader of Fitsnews and use many of its articles on political page ‘Berkeley County Politics’; however, this particular article I find to be nothing more than a ‘hit piece’ targeting Chip Limehouse! I guess it just goes to prove that if you can’t argue the facts then simply make implications, suppositions and innuendo! I am very disappointed in Fitsnews!!!

Something ain’t right in that picture of Chip, Chip Jr. and the dead ducks

I don’t hunt. Don’t know when it is time to hunt ducks, does, bucks or rabbits

With that said, I have always associated duck hunting with cold weather

The background of the picture indicates anything but cold weather

Any chance a petting zoo is missing a couple of ducks

Swinehouse is a two faced psychopath in sheeps clothing. The fat boy’s behind the scenes life needs to be turned inside out like an orange for all to see what really goes on.
He is just another lawless rogue like SC House Speaker Bobby Harrell. Now we all know that SLED (one agent, by the way) is investigation Harrell. Yet do we really expect anything to become of that? Hell no, I say! There will be NO justice until the Dept of Justice in D.C becomes directly involved – assigns agents from outside the state to investigate – and assigns a special federal prosecutor to head up the entire investigative team. Otherwise, corruption wins, and its the same old crap as before. WE KNOW THAT, do we not????
Never seen corruption so out of control as I have with this narcissistic lying scum. Anyone who follows and knows the history of this Pillsbury Dough boy knows what I mean.
