South Carolina’s unemployment rate climbed from an adjusted 8.6 percent in December to 8.7 percent in January, according to statistics released this week by the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW).
SCDEW did not release a labor participation rate, although the Palmetto State has been hovering at historic lows on that front for several months.
December’s unemployment rate was originally listed at 8.4 percent – up from 8.3 percent in November. Nationally, the unemployment rate remained unchanged in January – although it declined from 7.9 to 7.7 percent in February.
February data for South Carolina will be released later this month.
From September to November last year, South Carolina’s rate plunged from 9.1 to 8.3 percent, although as we’ve noted on several occasions this precipitous decline was driven by new taxpayer-funded positions – not private sector jobs.
S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley has bet her reelection on an aggressive government-run job creation program – ignoring broad-based tax relief in exchange for massive tax-shifting incentives deals subsidized by taxpayers (a.k.a. “crony capitalism”).

How can this be? But but we have Nim, the CPAC darling, as our governess. Life should be all rainbows and orgasms.
It is!
For her.
Yes, I always see a rainbow when I have an orgasm, but no one else is with me to see it.
Excuse me, please, but what is an orgasm?

Her reign is just a complete nightmare. Trying to kill the Amazon deal over the same tax break she gave QVC (but still taking credit for the jobs), touting 4,500 Walmart “jobs” that have yet to surface, “protecting” Boeing from the big bad unions when even Boeing was jabbing at her to shut the hell up, letting Georgia have their way with us with dredging the Savannah, trips to foreign lands and claims of secured jobs that Hitt assures us are far from secured, publicly calling half of SC’s applicants druggies and half incompetent buffoons…
And at the end of the day, the state of our economy doesn’t matter because she can just “create” jobs for her family, which isn’t nepotism because “LEAVE MY FAMILY OUT OF THIS!”
What scares me isn’t Haley’s reelection, it is the potential for someone even worse than her to come along in 2018.

SC has reduced its per capita tax rate 18.2 per cent over the last decade. SC ranks 49th out of the 50 states in overall taxation per capita. If “broad-based tax relief” alone is the answer to our economic problems, it doesn’t seem to be getting us where we want to go. You got any other suggestions other than private school vouchers?
That ridiculous “taxpayer rebate fund” he keeps talking about, I guess. FITS does not have a basic understanding of the the economics of taxation, but that hasn’t kept him from talking (well, writing) out of his ass extensively on the topic. Let us know when those vouchers and that rebate fund work out for us, won’t you, FITS?
” This table ranks the states of the United States on a per capita basis.
Note, however, that this table does not necessarily reflect the actual tax burdens borne directly by individual persons or businesses in a state. For example, the direct state tax burden on individuals in Alaska is far lower than the table would indicate. The state has no direct personal income tax and does not collect a sales tax at the state level, although it allows local governments to collect their own sales taxes. Alaska collects most of its revenue from corporate taxes on the oil and gas industry.
Note also that this table does not take into consideration the taxing and spending of local governments within states, which can vary widely, and sometimes disproportionately with state tax burdens.”

There’s a million different ways to manipulate numerical data to reflect your viewpoint.

I told yall BEFORE Nov. 2102: We will NOT heal this economic (or any other) Misery and Suffering until Obama is gone…
For four years (08-12) the Idiots could blame Bush, and I guess too many ignorant people bought it…
But now, this idiot has been Re-elected..and NOTHING is getting better, except Obanma’s Golf swing, and the the level of elitist, leftwing celebrities dining at the White house…
Will history look back and recognize that re-electing Obama was the Stupidest thing America has done in quite some time?
Electing Ronald Reagan was the stupidest thing that America has EVER done.
Meh. Dubya was way worse than Reagan.
Dubya, Reagan or Obama: Which one has the WORST Economy and sustained unemployment rate???
(I doubt seriously you have the integrity to answer honestly)….
Then why don’t you answer for us and provide a link to an unbiased source. I doubt seriously you have the ability to do that.
Big T, you’re not supposed to vote up your own posts.
You just can’t take the fact that even some of the people stupid enough to vote for Obama – again- are beginning to see I was RIGHT…and you’re a BIG, Anti-American Dumb@$$…and you don’t care if people suffer, as long as your god can dine on the finest, and live like a king…
