F-35 Debacle: No End In Sight

The United States Department of Defense (USDOD) is less than one-third complete with the testing process for its “next generation” of fighter jets – the various F-35 models it has been planning since 2001. Meanwhile a government watchdog group told Reuters $12.7 billion would have to be budgeted annual through 2037 to finish the project … which has been marred by repeated delays.

Despite these figures, military leaders say they are adamant the F-35 program will not be adversely impacted by the recent federal sequester – a modest reduction in government spending after years of unsustainable excess.

In 2001, the Pentagon announced plans to build 2,866 jets at a total cost of $233 billion. As of last summer, it was promising fewer than 2,500 jets at a total cost of $400 billion. In other words, the cost per aircraft has more than doubled.

That’s pathetic … and a case study in Pentagon mismanagement.

In fact just this week U.S. Sen. Pat Leahy (D-Vermont) referred to the F-35 program as “poorly managed” and “a textbook example of how not to buy military equipment.”

We concur … and taxpayers are going to have to shell out at least $160 billion as a result of that mismanagement, and billions more to keep retrofitting older planes that were supposed to have been replaced by F-35s years ago.

But hey … God forbid we question one red cent of military spending in this country. Not with neocon whores like U.S. Sen. John McCain and Lindsey Graham ready to pounce.

You left out “Obama”, “cliche” and a few other of your talking points.
And many of those “volunteers” believed Bush and Cheney when they lied about WMD in order to kill Hussein, the “guy that tried to kill my daddy”. And Bush essentially questioned the patriotism of those who didn’t vote for the war, and, yes, some did vote for it.
And where in my post did I run my mouth off about the military? You must’ve cut and pasted from another of your brainless posts.

The same way he came up with the five different Republican candidates he said were going to win the Presidency.

In BigT’s defense, he considers pretty much all of the GOP candidates to be part of his Republican borg collective. Excluding Sanford, of course.

Why pick? Just print up some more dough and the world is the US’s oyster.

Bush’s 4th term is coming along quite nicely, although the policy of spending more than what we take in is close to 42 years old now so there’s much more blame to go around than just the last two Prezs.

Nice thing about welfare, it’s a “uniter”..it brings together white trash, black trash, mexican trash, trashey welfare corps like GE, the MIC, gov’t “workers”, crony capitalists like Buffet, Soros, etc…..everyone has got their grubby fingers in the pie.

It’s a melting pot of red ink and jackals all looking to get their pound of flesh before the carcass is picked clean.

Good ole Sic Willie. Always seems to forget (ignore?) inflation. $233B in 2001 dollars is $302B in 2012 dollars.

“a government watchdog group told Reuters”. So a non governmental group told another non governmental group. You can bet the farm on that accuracy.

There is not, or will not be, a serious attempt to cut the military budget. Both parties are slaves to the military industrial complex, and most media outlets are owned by large conglomerates who either own or have a large stake in subsidiaries who profit from war and excess militarism. Add to that a society whose idol worship of the military and veterans has led to an inability to criticize it and its management, and it’s easy to see why we have become a fascist-like nation.
I find it funny that conservatives, who love to talk about limited government, worship this type of jingoistic nationalism. Liberals historically have been internationalists and interventionists. Today though, one cannot win a Republican Primary without foaming at the mouth for neverending war and increased national security measures that explode the growth of government bureaucracy while simultaneously curbing fundamental liberties of its citizens.
A militaristic nation is fundamentally at odds with reducing the role of government in citizens’ lives. Militarism stresses conformity and discourages or violently oppresses dissent. The individual is no longer the basic unit of society, and is instead replaced by the abstract “greater good”. Fear and paranoia become the rallying cries for the curbing of fundamental rights. And there is always an enemy for us to fight. It was the Soviets, now it’s the terrorists, in 50 years it wil be someone else. Welcome to American Dystopia.

Hi Y’all!!

It’s me SparkleCity!!

Looks like things haven’t changed much….

Voices of reason against pukes/personas like BigT

Since BigT has a hard-on for buying airline tickets maybe he/she will fess up and go with me on the big Dept. of Homeland Security Concentration Camp hunt or the Independant Party Convention he/she claimed was a political party of its own

Been waiting for that offer for what…damn near a year now and he/she still won’t pony up……

Was down in Charleston last weekend viewing the Hunley (one of FITS’ fav rants)

No matter where you stand on the Civil War (since I’m a native West By God Virginian you know where I stand on the whole Civli War BS;we told Confederate states to kiss our hillbilly asses)…….

Anyhoo. It is something to see a historic weapon system that has been raised from a watery grave and know that 3 sets of crews died trying to make the thing work….I’m sure every one of them thought
‘this won’t happen to me” Tragically, it killed almost every one of the 3 sets of crews.

If you are in Charleston do go by and visit the exhibit. It is worth every penny to see a legacy of a terrible conflict that would not have happened except for hot-headed South Carolinians who had a hard on to poke the United States in the eye by shelling Ft. Sumter. Well, you reap what you sow…………

Looks like not much has changed if you believe the Neo-Confederates and hard right dickheads (which I don’t for one damn minute BTW!!!)

Anyhow, I could have gazed at that hulk in the deionized water tank for hours and just reflected on the symbolic nature of it all….

A tragedy all the way around…

Who is going to accompany me to Gettysburg in July for the 150th anniversary of the defeat of the Army of Northern Virginia??? Or as some has titled it, “the high water mark of the Confederate Army”???

Perhaps you should delve into who poked first. Start with Bluffton movement of 1844. This in response to one of many attempts at subjugation of the South by the North. These attempts continued well into the 20th century.
