South Carolina’s FY 2013-14 budget contains $300,000 for a liberal economic think tank run by some of the Palmetto State’s most notorious command economists.
“New Carolina” – a.k.a. the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness – will receive the money from the S.C. Department of Commerce, according to a proviso included in the budget plan being debated this week in the S.C. House of Representatives.
Among “New Carolina’s” liberal leaders? Cigarette tax supporter Ed Sellers (chairman of BlueCross BlueShield), Lake City, S.C. financier Darla Moore, Don Herriott (manager of the University of South Carolina’s failed “Innovista” boondoggle) and golden parachute recipient Mack Whittle.
It’s a veritable “Who’s Who” of status quo, crony capitalist insiders in other words …
What’s worse than “New Carolina’s” board? The socialist central planning its leaders are championing … which includes all manner of taxpayer subsidized “economic development” initiatives.
Founded in 2004, “New Carolina” is a mouthpiece for the failed strategies which produced South Carolina’s “Lost Decade” – a period of exorbitant government growth and income stagnation.
Taxpayers have no business funding those failed strategies … let alone a mouthpiece to promote them.
If there is even an ounce of “Republican” principle left in the S.C. General Assembly, this $300,000 expense must be eliminated and every penny of it placed into a taxpayer rebate fund.

For $300.000 should be able to Rent-A-Rocket from the Russians, strap their liberal asses to it and send them all to a far, far, far away Galaxy.
On second thought leave the milf behind to aggravate the other bitch.

OK, so the $300,000 hasn’t even been allocated yet, and you want the money placed into a taxpayer rebate fund? I swear you are getting dumber by the second.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield keeps their competitive requirements bar low in state with all the filthy lobbying money the send everywhere…it’s amazing to see how connected they are. I’m starting to think they are the most powerful lobbyist group in state. Can anyone think of any single person or company that has more presence/influence in our corrupt state gov’t?
First Citizens Bank?
Good One!!
Yeah. The utilities.
Good one, the utilities are pretty powerful.
BMW? Boeing? Chamber of Commerce? Too many to list
Yea, but the question is…who is the biggest influence of all of them? I’m still thinking BC&BS.
