Candidates for South Carolina’s vacant first congressional district have loaned their campaigns hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to reports filed this week with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
Former S.C. Sen. John Kuhn (RINO-Charleston) leads the way – loaning his campaign a whopping $500,000. Meanwhile S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse (RINO-Charleston) loaned his campaign $400,000. Teddy Turner – son of liberal media mogul Ted Turner – gave his campaign $245,000, meaning that’s money he isn’t expecting to be repaid. Other big loans in the race were reported by trial lawyer Curtis Bostic ($100,000) and S.C. Sen. Larry Grooms ($100,000).
Aside from former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford’s impressive $334,000 haul, Grooms (R-Berkeley) led the field of challengers in contributions – raking in nearly $224,000. That’s nearly twice as much money as his nearest competitor raised.
All told, Grooms has more than $208,000 to spend during the final ten days of the race – second only to Sanford, who has nearly $365,000 in the bank. Of course Sanford – who has enjoyed a sizable lead in the polls throughout the race – will likely save a significant portion of that cash for a likely runoff election in early April.
In South Carolina, runoff elections between the top two vote-getters are held two weeks after primary elections in which no candidate receives fifty percent of the vote.
While Grooms and Sanford appear to be the big winners in this report, several other candidates (Turner, Kuhn, Bostic and Limehouse) all have the resources to continue competing for this seat.
Also we fully expect there to be additional loans/ self-contributions made if campaigns feel they are close to earning one of those top two spots.
Here’s the candidate-by-candidate breakdown …

Douchebag Peter McCoy… We all know he can’t raiseobey but is it so bad he’s breaking the law by not reporting his embarrassing numbers?
Here’s McCoy’s info: http://www.fec.gov/fecviewer/CandidateCommitteeDetail.do

Fits, how come Larry hasn’t paid you or Nancy yet?
Fits, how come Larry hasn’t paid you or Nancy yet?
Who do you all expect Fits to support?? You say he must be sleeping with or paid by Grooms but take a look at the field for Gods sakes.
Larry Grooms? May have weird hair and is not the best looking or best spoken in the race, but by far has the most accountable past record and is a known conservative commodity.
Ray Nash? Probably the second best but there is that whole “tens-of-thousands-of-dollars-in-gym-memberships, parties, and-gifts-thing”. He wants to “audit the Fed” but did everything he could, including resign, to avoid an audit of his own department.
Curtis Bostic? Sketchy, fuzzy relationship with human trafficking organization aside, his signs say “Stop the spending” but when he was on Charleston County Council he voted to increase spending in each of his ten years there.
Chip Limehouse? Biggest liberal and also biggest scumbag in the race.
Teddy Turner? Gives Chip a run for his money for biggest liberal position, only one in race who said he would vote to raise the debt ceiling.
Marky Mark Sanford? Loves to point out his conservative record, but had an affair on the taxpayers dime. Not to mention abandoned his post as Chief Executive of this state multiple times to conduct said affair.
And I don’t think the rest of the “no names” need any explanation so I will just stop there.
He already said in a previous article that this website would likely endorse Grooms.
The comments n Nash are completely incorrect. An audit of the Sheriff’s Office was requested by Nash and completed. He was found to be completely clean. He retired after 34 years of service, he did not resign. Accuracy is important here. I was there. Obviously you were not.

Wow. Larry does have momentum. And all the naysayers said he wouldn’t raise a dime. I fully support Larry Grooms, and I hope we can come together and not divide the race so someone like a Chip Limehouse makes the runoff with mark Sanford. That’s just too risky. Let’s put two fiscally conservative candidates in the runoff so we have the strongest option of beating Colbert-Busch in the general.

Each time one of them claims — on TV, radio or print — to be “Christian,” I give them a “Christ demerit.”
Winners to date are Kuhn and Bostic.
“Methinks he protest too much.”

Who’s that Jonathan Hoffman guy? It’s pretty impressive he raised the same amount of money as Andy Patrick and Peter McCoy and more than John Kuhn. I saw him at a forum in Hilton Head and he definitely knows what he’s talking about and wasn’t afraid to call Sanford out for his talk of “seniority”.

What the hell is a ‘Top 50 Progressive’ in Charleston? Young commies or just plain dumbasses that have apparently sold their souls in regards to social morals, including the sanctity of life?
Or none of the above?

Teddy Turner’s mistake was associating with the Michael Smith kid. He has a history in Charleston that would blow you away. Mallory Factor made the same mistake with bringing him into the Charleston Meeting and soon learned his mistake. Anyone who talks to Mallory knows that story. And it goes chapter by chapter with everyone else he’s been around. Ouch Teddy.
Can you give more details on this?
Mudflats, ‘Please’ don’t fall for this request, apparently from Elizabeth Colbert-Busch’s illiterate and failed communications team.
Hmmmm
