Dems Get Jump Start In SC-1

While sixteen Republicans (including a half dozen or so serious contenders) continue to battle it out for the Republican  nomination, Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch is getting a jump on the general election.

The sister of comedian Stephen Colbert launched her first television ad this week, a thirty-second spot highlighting her “job creation” record.

Wait … huh? Job creation? Isn’t Colbert a six-figure bureaucrat at a taxpayer-funded agency? One whose sole mission is restoring a Civil War-era Confederate submarine?

Yeah …

Nonetheless here’s her spot, in which she basically takes credit for there being a port in Charleston, S.C. – and her tangentially having something to do with it.

Take a look …

(Click to play)

“I’ve spent twenty years using our ports to create jobs, selling American products made by American workers,” Colbert-Busch says in the spot.

She later adds, “I’m not going to talk about the jobs we’ve lost, I know what it takes to create new jobs.”

Okay …

First of all we do need to talk about the jobs our nation has lost … and why we lost them (two reasons: here and here). And for the record we also know how to create jobs, but our guess is the reforms we support differ radically from those Colbert-Busch is championing.

Speaking of … what specifically does Colbert-Busch “know” will create jobs? Since her ad doesn’t say, we sent an email to her campaign seeking clarification. We’ll let you know what (if anything) we hear back …

Seems like a clean, appealing message about job creation. Balancing the budget, no new taxes, defending the constitution — all good, but SC and America are hungry for JOB CREATION.

Director of Sales and Marketing for a shipping company and Director of Business Development for Charleston Naval Shipyard…….those two job experiences singularly much less combined, give her more legitimate claim to understanding job creation than any current elected official in SC.

It’s a good ad.

The Charleston Naval Shipyard closed in 1996. At what point in time was she “Director of Business Development”?

sweepin March 7, 2013 at 12:21 pm

I’m very familiar with the closing date. You’ll have to ask her for the timeline. Considering that she didn’t name the shipping company but did name the Shipyard experience, I’d bet she has a story and explanation
that covers her claim.

I don’t think anyone has accused her of being a fool which would be the case if she can’t back it up.

The only brush she had with the shipyard is that she worked for Clemson at their Restoration Institute long AFTER the naval shipyard closed. The Institute is located on the former naval base. Either someone has their info mixed up or they are playing loose and fast with their words.

Ol’Horse Face Busch has an impressive career but lately she’s gone off the Gov’t Boondoggle Deep End. “I am a business professional, integral in bringing the world’s largest wind turbine testing facility and thousands of wind energy jobs to the region.”

Thousands of jobs? Try tens of jobs… and that’s if you include the student interns.

She hasn’t a clue about the real problems we are facing in DC – “America faces $16 trillion in debt and Washington operates in a constant state of crisis and bickering. Elizabeth believes that America’s best years are ahead if we focus on priority spending, a fairer tax code and long-term solutions.”

Not a word about cutting government excess however, “She is committed to a quick resolution on sequestration, a fair tax code, and opportunities that allow small businesses to succeed. Fair tax code? That means we tax “the rich” at 90% right?!?

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch – talks like a “lib dem, big gov’t” candidate, looks like the north end of a south bound mule and supports spending your money to solve someone else’s problems…

Make up your alleged mind, Bubba. Does she look like the front end of a horse or the back end of a mule.

On a substantial, rather than ad hominem level, it would be better to judge her on what she advocates, rather than on your misperceptions.

Yeah, ad hominem…after I used part of one sentence to make fun of her appearance, I used the next two and a half paragraphs to address her advocacy using her own words. I even gave her credit where it was due – she was a fairly accomplished “porter”.

She doesn’t advocate a flippin’ thing in her ad, it’s a “feel good” piece that plays well but says nothing.

Oh – her face is horsey, I was thinking of Madam Pelosi when I wrote the “north end” comment. Her north end is more bovine that “mulely”…

She works for Glenn McConnell and Warren Lasch, the two gay blades who “hugged each other” and said “Yes, it’s wonderful!” (Post & Courier) when the Hunley reached the surface.

At the “Warren F. Lasch Conservation Laboratory” and “Friends of the Hunley, Inc.” that Ned Sloan sued for violations of the FOIA — trying to keep “Friends” spending under cover.

And Ned won that fight in the S.C. Supreme Court, another defendant being “Friends” lawyer Ric Tapp — another McConnell paramour.

I’m with Ned Sloan. The Hunley lab is a taxpayer black hole. Vote against this blood-sucker.

On tape Ms. Busch says, “Director of Business Development at the former Naval Shipyard”

She cannot claim she has any “Shipyard” experience because she doesn’t have any fucking Shipyard experience.

She works for an organization which happens to be located on a site at the former Naval Shipyard. She may have some former Shipyard dirt on her shoes but that is about all she can claim.

Ms. Busch is fat cat broad ass bureaucrat who is paid $120,154 a year (not counting benefits) to serve as Business Director of Clemson University’s so-called “Restoration Institute” which is nothing more than a goddamn shell game for Lt. Governor Glenn McConnell’s taxpayer funded obsession with the H. L. Hunley Confederate Submarine.

Perhaps in her next video Ms. Busch can tape herself at the gravesite of John F. Kennedy and talk about her conversations with the late President.

Fucking moron.

I was enjoying some sashimi at the bar of a restaurant the other night that was playing Fox News on the TV. At one of the commercial breaks no fewer than three campaign ads by Republican SC-1 hopefuls played back-to-back-to-back.
I believe I’d be a little pissed if I’d spent good money for an ad that was essentially drowned out as it was being shown. Is that just the way things work or did the campaigns’ marketing directors screw up?
