Former Charleston County councilman Curtis Bostic is running for the U.S. Congress as a fiscal conservative. In fact his campaign website is “StopSpending.com.”

There’s just one problem with that narrative … as a county councilman, Bostic supported massive increases in government spending. In fact the first congressional district candidate backed budgets which grew Charleston County government more than twice as fast as its population – even after adjusting for inflation.

From 2001-2008, total spending on Charleston County government ballooned from $241 million to $365 million – a 25 percent increase after adjusting for inflation. During that time Charleston County’s population grew by just 12.2 percent – from 310,000 to 348,000.

With the exception of 2001, when he was recorded as absent, Bostic voted for every single county budget.

Making matters worse, Bostic’s tenure on county council included not one, but two recessions – including the “Great Recession” which began in December 2007.

Yeah … looks like somebody better rethink that whole “Stop Spending” schtick.

For reasons surpassing understanding, Bostic has emerged as one of a handful of frontrunners in the crowded race for the first district. That’s pretty impressive considering he doesn’t even live in the district.

Sixteen Republicans are currently battling it out for their party’s nomination for this seat. Meanwhile Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch is already campaigning for the  general election in May.

Fits is such a moron. The budget was balanced. Although his immature mind probably isn’t capable of understanding what kind of leadership that took.

Agreed. I’m from Charleston County and the budget was indeed balanced. And Tim Scott worked hand-in-glove with Bostic, who did no grandstanding while on council.

If you told FITS that 1,689,931 was a “democrat” number, he’d create a factoid to prove it and say that it is ruining America.

I’ve always admired Daniel and so I will be voting for his dad in this race. The way that this news site is shameless in bashing a conservative candidate is astounding. This is hearsay reporting and nothing more.

Daniel is an extremely kind and down to earth young man who happens to be a celebrity. This is virtually unknown!

I ran into him at citadel mall in charleston, sc when he was with his friends and you could tell he was close with them and they admired him.

Someone even asked for his autograph and he was so kind and smiled and gave it.

I never would’ve guessed he wasn’t a celebrity if I didn’t know better. Any man who can raise a kid like that into a young man of such humility and kindness and one who can handle fame with such grace will earn my vote hands down.

In a previous Bostic article you offered up this quote.

Bostic then offered up this doozy of a quote …

It is not the job of an attorney to ascertain what the truth is. It is the job of an attorney to represent people.

There are some who say this cannot be attributed to Bostic. Could you give us a reference or was this a lie.

Well…..according to the “Art of War”, it is very evident that Curtis Bostic is nothing more than a full back blocker for Mark Sanford. He is garnering and consolidating his “support” base via his county council rolodex to sway certain corporate donors who are unaware of impending energy concerns. How much did Curtis know about the 900 Million tax gift to BOEING…!?!? ….the 700 Million to SCRA…!?! DO we have to re-hash his “Casper Toes” concerning the John’s Island connector that has yet to be finished…!?> As far as being a man of the people, we sure didn’t see Curtis down near Edisto teaching concerned citizens about TRASH dumping in Iraq and Afghanistan…!? Thank the Lord that landfill did not get approved…!!! Matter of fact, we wonder when was the last time Curtis Bostic has used Google Earth…..???? Does he know how to use a MAP of the Middle East…!?!? How about a Waste Management trash truck route map….!?!?

Bostic is the biggest faker in the election: Big spender, child trafficer, and doesn’t live in the district. Who is being fooled by his baloney.

No one.

Contrary to Fits and Bostics supporters who show up everytime an article on him appears here,Bostic is NOT a first tier candidate. He is vying with Grooms and Nash for the religious Right vote which, while significant, is not as big a factor on the coast,as in some other areas.

I dont see Bostic finishing any higher than fourth or fifth.

Bostic has told people not to watch Harry Potter movies because they are “of the devil.” He’s also a creationist and will tell you God created the universe 6,500 years ago. No kidding.

I have been acquainted with Curtis and
his family for over 25 years and know he is a man of integrity. It takes a lot of fortitude these days to run
for political office with all the mudslinging that goes on. When I learned about Curtis’ decision to run
for congress, I wondered what kind of crazy stories his opponents would dredge
up; and it is obvious that everything but the proverbial kitchen sink has been
thrown at him. Every one of these stories
against Curtis is a twisted perversion of facts to make Curtis look bad. To say he is connected with human trafficking
is absurd and has already been refuted.
This latest attempt to blackmail Curtis by saying he is for bigger
government is also completely bogus. He
has clearly stated he is for a balanced budget without raising taxes. If that means cutting bloated government programs,
then he is for doing that instead of raising taxes. When Curtis was on the Charleston County
board, they always had a balanced budget, no increase in taxes, and increased
revenues which were used wisely to help the county prosper. If revenues were to decline, I’m sure Curtis
would recommend cutting back government operations to keep the budget balanced. Be glad we don’t live in Detroit!
