Somehow, despite sequestration, the sun rose today, and it will set.
Schools opened as scheduled. The children were still picked up and dropped off by their buses.
Hospitals, police, and firefighters all remained on call should the need arise.
Planes did not fall out of the sky.
The roads we travel on did not disintegrate.
Trash continued to be collected.
The mail was delivered.
No nuclear accidents occurred.
We were not invaded.
The borders and coasts were still patrolled.
There was no massive prison breakout.
The courts still functioned.
Criminals were still prosecuted.
Agencies all opened and closed on time.
Overseas, military operations proceeded as planned.
Seniors’ Social Security and Medicare benefits continued to be put out without any interruption. So did food stamps, unemployment, and Medicaid.
Remarkable when one considers that on March 1, the government cut a part of the $3.538 trillion budget by a mere $54 billion, or by 1.5 percent.

The “cuts” aren’t even cuts, they are simply reductions in the growth of (deficit) spending via future CBO projections. It’s a farce, a joke, a big old heap of drama for what isn’t even a fart in the wind in terms of our total debt.
Let’s hear some more wailing and witness the tearing of garments from our illustrious pols over how draconian it all is. Bring on the Kabuki.

I still haven’t figured out how a 2% cut in the increase over last year’s base equates to a 20% cut in pay for Federal workers…
I propose a 5% across the board cut to all federal spending for the next two years with salaries cut 5% across the two years – if you don’t like it quit.
Wow! Genius! That should solve everything! I wonder why they haven’t called you yet.
