Seriously … has she even taken those things off since her husband left for Afghanistan?
Anyway the facility – which will cost $35 million in revenue from the S.C. State Ports Authority – is part of a decade-long $1.3 billion infrastructure enhancement program. Are we down with that? Of course … we just wish our state was doing a better job leveraging private investment as opposed to committing public funds to these projects.
In fact that was Haley’s position … before she became a whore for the state’s failed status quo, anyway.
Oh well. At least she looks the part, right? And again we can’t complain because our founding editor taught her everything she knows on this front.

This is because they bought land in 1982 they decided to build an inland port…in Greenville? I would have thought Florence. This is a game changer. Import/export entrepreneurs will have to move up there. That means one would have to truck I-85 north to I-95 north (NC)? Or I-85 south to I-20 west(GA)? This effectively cuts out South Carolina as drive thru country which alone makes money. Who would want to locate a corporation inthe Midlands with all of the flat bottom land and all, when the port facilities and intermodal transportation supports Atlanta and Charlotte? The terrain alone in Union, Greenville, Anderson limits massive corporate growth. Why do we need that nuke plant again? Do you really think Midlands residential service will pay for it? Who needs the Midlands or the Low Country, anyway? Right? Bovine Sewage.
This also makes the argument for Jasper…not. There was no Jasper…only a dog and pony swow to slow down GA’s ambitions, maybe gain a sweetheart real estate deal or two….certainly supports Gov Haley’s leadership on the Savannah Port deepening go ahead. Atleast we will have a deep water port south of Norfolk. There will not be a deep water port in Charleston. Soil turbidty from poorly conceived late 1940’s damming projects determined that. So we skip the Midlands and put an inland port in….mountainous Greer?
This also makes Atlanta/Charlotte the major hubs for Savannah’s Deep Water Port and Greer’s Inland Port, firmly entrenching the Midlands and Low Country in inescapable poverty. Bovine sewage.
There are no mountains in that part of Greer. It’s much flatter in that area, than in northern Greenville County. The rest of your post is miscellaneous rambling.
1) Dredging down to 50 feet is not a one time proposition. Due to soil mixed with river water, a higher than normal mix due to up river damming and release protocols, the dredging will be a continuous fight to remain deep to handle Panamax shipping. This is what the study will indicate.Translation: 50 feet is an unsustainable and costly due to poorly engineered up stream dams resulting in high soil turbidity from water releases based on shoreline water levels on lake property, not based on climate/precipitation values. We can not have floating docks resting on lake bed, can we? When it rains and water must be released to keep property owners from flooding, soil disproportionately is gathered up and sent down the Cooper River to be dredged. Savannah has less turbidity and existing intermodal infrastructure to come into SC. They have to come up I-95.
2) Expanding I-95 from NC to GA to 6 lanes is irrefutably a must do expansion project. Expanding I-26 from Charleston to I-95 is an irrefutable must do project. I-73 is a must do project. These expansions provide viable evacuation routes while opening up much needed intermodal lanes to move exports and accept imports.
3) A NEW LNG Terminal in Charleston will open up export routes south of New England due to a pipeline connector from the Patriot Pipeline. This LNG Terminal will take business from Savannah as well as provide facilities to recover billions of recoverable natural gas offshore Sc and NC.
4) Rail lines exist and can be improved to move shipping containers from Charleston/Savannah to Timmonsville, with newly constructed connector lanes, connectinf to I-20 to I-26/I-77 and I-95 to I-73. From the inland port in Timmonsville, all interstates will be utilized.
5) BMW can still ship by rail, however, with Timmonsville, all existing and new corporate interests can have vast amounts of land to build upon, thus strengthening Columbia, Sumter, Camden, and Florence as a new and affordable area for US and International manufacturing. Not to mention increased imports from India and China to all points North and West.
