Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) – a global information technology firm with a sprawling facility in Blythewood, S.C. – has been “quietly laying off dozens of South Carolina employees” over the last twelve months, sources tell FITS.
“The layoffs (are) happening every bi-weekly pay period,” one source familiar with the pink slips tells FITS. “Many of the layoffs are employees that have been there long time.”
CSC has also allegedly been reducing pay and benefits, eliminating flexible work hours and outsourcing jobs from its Blythewood campus, which last time we checked employed several hundred people.
For now, at least …
“Further layoffs and restructuring are about to be announced,” our source says.
Yikes. So … what sayeth the company in response to these reports?
“I’ve spoken with our human resources department and have been advised to respond with a ‘no comment,'” a spokesman for CSC told FITS.
Hmmmm …
Five years ago CSC announced an expansion of its Blythewood facility in conjunction with the S.C. Department of Commerce – creating 300 new jobs. It’s not immediately clear how much incentive money the company has received over the years from South Carolina taxpayers.
In keeping with S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s total lack of “economic development” transparency (particularly when the news is bad), S.C. Commerce spokeswoman Amy Love did not respond to our request for a detailed accounting of taxpayer-funded incentives received by CSC. And neither Commerce nor the governor’s office were available to comment on the layoffs.
In addition to receiving taxpayer subsidies, CSC is one of many firms which relies extensively on government contracts to support its bottom line. How’s business? Not good … CSC posted a $4.2 billion loss in 2012.

Maybe Buffalo Shit Sellars can work his magic and get them the contract to run the lottery.
Hell, they should be a perfect fit since they have lost just about as much money as the contractors over at State Retirement Fund.

Ya know….Mr. Folks, the reality for the workers is the cold hard fact that this firm could have done so much for the build out of our states networked and elevated transportation build-out. What a shame that the workers have no real clue how valuable their talents really are in moving our state forward. Just look at the brain drain at NASA as an example.
Obviously these Blythewood workers have no clue how to USE this Fitsnews website..!?
Wil…..this is the tip of the ICEBERG….and you know it. Not that I am tooting my own horn but where did you hear that the BOEING Battery fiasco was and inside job..!? BOEING Workers do care and are fed up with the inherent backstabbing..!! Furthermore, what taxpayers are being left in the dark on a certain 900 Million “pass”..??
Wil….when a PR agent tells you “no comment” it sends signal to short sellars to do what to the STOCK..!? Scott and Stringfellow in Mt. Pleasant are not stupid…!!

CSC owns the building in Blythewood. In fact, it is their largest owned facility. Their larger facilities are leased. 98,000 worldwide employees, but their 2012 annual report from their CEO was not a bright one. Their largest customer is the U.S. Government. Not sure if that is part of the problem or not. They had big losses in U.K., and didn’t do well in North Carolina because of screwed up implementation of Medicaid program. Had to pay NC $50M.
and if you could look out of the left side of this frame you would see the buildings that DPS and DMV HQs rent from CSC on their facilities.
And CSC bought it from PMSC/Mynd in 1999-2000. Just after PMSC laid off 100s.

CSC is the lead contractor for a computer system overhaul for the Air Force that has been scrapped. The USAF claims that after 7 yrs and $1 billion there is nothing to show for it.
NBC ran a story earlier this month and specifically named CSC. This couldn’t have helped their stock price.
http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/50749586#50749586
With Obama as president and commander in cheif, this surprises you…
That B@$*@#d has failed at everything he’s touched. This is just another example….
And how is Obama responsible for a failed computer system where the work was started at least 3 years before he took office?
Wouldn’t that be like blaming your parents for conceiving you while they were still virgins?

Looks like (according to FITS) this company came in under Sanford’s watch. The job losses (and its failure) should be laid at his feet…and parlayed by his SC-1 opponents…
I hope they jump all over it…..
PS: Wasn’t the time Sanford brought this company in, about the same time he was in the theros of his Argentina affair???
Thank you for breaking (reminding us of) this FITS. I’m sure your old bossman is thrilled….Hahahahaha…
No, this firm has been here long time. It was PMS before it was CSC.
Hey Robert: FITS said: “Five years ago CSC announced an expansion of its Blythewood facility in conjunction with the S.C. Department of Commerce”….
Nice try though…
Expansion is correct. But company didn’t start up 5 years ago.
Last hired, first fired…so I’m guessing they are shedding all the jobs Sanford got credit for…Those are the lay-offs FITS is lamenting.
FITS is trying to Magnify EVERY job loss, when SC is in a net gain, despite a DISASTEROUS Economy delivered by Obama…
I may not be a Haley fan…but FITS looks like a Complete IDIOT going after her on economic development.
Especially in view of how TERRIBLE Sanford was at giving business a break. And Sanford was in Bush’s Great economy…but Sanford was used and abused by llawmakers…
On this one, it has nothing to do with Sanford and the jobs being lost across the board.
You need to tell FITS that, then…because FITS says the hires were “in conjunction with the S.C. Department of Commerce”….five years ago, under Sanford.
You are taking one paragraph and connecting it to full context of story. And FITS should have been clearer. The lay-offs may or may not be those added jobs (pretty sure they aren’t). I’m thinking the point was trying to be made that SC invested in this company and it is now laying people off.
1+1 might not equal 2 in this case.
Big T orginally CSC was PMSC which was a subsidary of and spun off from Siebels-Bruce in the 1980’s. I should know my cousin was it’s CIO/CTO for over a decade until he retired. As usual you have no idea what your typing about.

This sad thing is that people think this crap represents a “free market”.
I got a survey from our glorious governor the other day asking me what things the SC gov’t could do to improve conditions for manufacturing. I threw it in the trash.
They can waste someone else’s time. They know the answer already. Cut back gov’t. Cut back taxes. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I guess they are hoping morons with more time and failing businesses will take their precious time to respond to such nonsense in a way that they like.
Any manufacturer with a pulse, much less a brain, doesn’t pay sales taxes even now.
Did I specify sales taxes? Or are you volunteering random information?

must be making more room for DPS/DMV expansion since they rent space in the building from CSC

I don’t believe there were state incentives for CSC. Most incentives require new investment and jobs, and there was no new investment

Quietly my a$$. Just another example of this site trying digging up old news trying to generate attention. When will something new and original be reported that can be classified as fact and not just some rumor from sources.

5 Years ago, I was hired on during that expansion of 300 jobs. Oh I remember the day Gov. Sanford came and celebrated all the new jobs and the great work we were doing and the little painting he donated to the center. 5 years later almost to the day, I was “layed off”. No Governor there to console, she was out in Bam bumble fudge SC celebrating some thing else with her little minions in tow. The new CEO said something about clearing out 1 billion from its books.
So that started with a memo from up above to take a mandatory 40 hour vacation, (even if you did not have the 40 hours to use) after that was announced the layoffs started in the insurance side (concerning Blythewood employees) and then went into the global outsourcing group that was started 5 years earlier.
The people chosen initially had some serious years behind them, with several having 25 – 29 years at that facility, some low level management heads also were rolled out onto the proverbial gutter. I was making 53K a year there, so it was not like they went after the high salary ones, as my salary was more middle of the road. I had back to back great job performance reviews, and other I know that were laid off we also outstanding workers. So I was told it was all random.
I just have a hard time believing it was random when your trying to push a billion dollars from your books. Because I would think they would have started with the highest salaried employees and worked down… Maybe the new CEO could have taken a fiscal furlough himself…

It’s because they are being replaced with H1-B’s: http://visadoor.com/h1b/index?company=computer+sciences+corporation&job=&case_no=&state=SC&year=2015&case_status=&submit=Search
The ‘jobs’ they are filling are in the range of 25-35 an hour. This is the same garbage we get fed every day. They are REPLACING US WORKERS WITH CHEAPER OFFSHORE LABOR.
These are not layoffs – they are simply being replaced – notice the titles of the positions listed are far more advanced than the salaries posted: http://visadoor.com/h1b/index?company=computer+sciences+corporation&job=&case_no=&state=SC&year=2015&case_status=&submit=Search
