Actually it isn’t just a South Carolina thing that you don’t have to live in the district to be eligible to run for the US House. Article I, Section 2, Clause 2 of the US Constitution states “No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.” The Supreme Court has interpreted this as meaning that the states can not add additional requirements to those imposed by the Constitution, e.g. reside in the district, or set term limits. For an example see “U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton”, 514 U.S. 779 (1995)

Though I do recommend you read Justice Thomas’s dissent which justifies such actions.

No shit Constantine the point is that if people want to vote for someone in district 6 to represent them then I suggest they move to district 6. Plus the fact that mr holier than thou Bostic has withheld this from the public eliminates all his credibility (that is if he had any to begin with).

Chip Limehouse is not beholden to any party, political philosophy or principles. He is beholden to a small group of important people who know what is best for the rest of us. If he is not shoveling pork down his throat he is delivering it in the form of earmarks and favors to this elite but critical group of decision makers.

Then why did he remove a link to this story from his Facebook page and why has he not bothered to let people know. If you think people don’t care whether a candidate lives in the district he represents than you are clueless.

Perhaps you should show a photo of his business, which is on Wappoo Rd, or his church, which is on Arlington Dr. If you were a tax-paying business owner in Charleston County, you would know why he is running in District 1. and too bad the satellite photo wasn’t taken when he had over 600 local public servants, firemen, police officers, and the like over to his “large estate” for a free day of Charleston Salutes the last two years. If you only knew…

What an absurd article. The Constitution makes no realms for what district you must live in to represent a people. Age, state residency- that is all that is required. To not vote for someone just because they do not live in your district is a childish way of alienating a fellow SC citizen who desires good for all of SC, not just his district. You actually have to commend someone for stepping outside of his living zone to represent a people he believes in. Why run for this seat instead of the 6th district seat opening next year? Simple- because this seat offers a place in the US House of Representatives, not just our State HR- again, because Mr. Bostic is willing to represent ALL of SC not just his district.

I am appalled at such ignorance in a post of this sort- quite honestly, this is something less deserving of a web article and more deserving of a Facebook status. Pure opinion this is- no fundamental backing or Constitutional standing.

BosticBots, rather than shoot the messenger (in this case sic) why not ask your candidate why he chose to withhold this from the voters. His simple omission and attempt to hide this, clearly shows he has contempt for the public and is not worthy of elected office. The people of Charleston made a wise decision to vote him out.

I live in one Congressional District, but my bussiness interestes are in another. It is far more important to me if the district my business is in is successful than if the district my house is located in is successful. So who would I represent more if I am elected to Congress?

It doesn’t matter what his opponents think, the only thing that matters are what his supporters think, and right now he has a lot of them who respect him and think he is the most qualified. The bashing of Mr. Bostic & his son is incredibly immature. So what if his son is a celebrity, at least he’s DOING something with his life unlike your crackhead kids.

So what if his house technically is outside of the district, probably 90% of his time and income are spent in the 1st district! He actually gives his life to public service and betterment of society. Give me a break. Just because FITS hates Daniel Bostic doesn’t mean they should hate on his dad’s congressional run.

I would vote for someone from Duncan-Lyman-Welford if they understood the value of our state’s ENERGY and the SLAVERY we all live in. My concern is that we need to start sending candidates to DC that have proven TEETH when they say something. Heck, we all know that WIl Folks would do a better job serving and communicating in a transparent way better than ANY of the candidates seeking this seat.

Do any of these candidates have a daily WEB show..??

Do any of these candidates have daily input to any WEB site that can be tracked in real time via FACEBOOK or twitter..!?

Do any of these candidates demonstrate actions that help the WAR EFFORT on a daily basis..!?

DO any of these candidates offer any SOLUTIONS that citizens can invest in..1?

Have any of these candidates voted on anything that the taxpayers were never aware of BEFORE the vote…!?

The main concern anyone should have with Curtis Bostic is the oversight he had concerning the expansion of the LANDFILL and the TRASH issues with Charleston COUNTY. His silence in educating SC Voters about NEW technology that allows for LOCAL sud-division level trash energy production is glaring. His failure to divulge the national security issues with continued centralized energy production instead of de-centralized energy production puts us all in a elevated energy security posture.!!

It is one thing to burp methane to corporate lobbyists (Waste Management) but when it is in direct obstruction of national security issues is another..!!

I would vote for someone from Duncan-Lyman-Welford if they understood the value of our state’s ENERGY and the SLAVERY we all live in. He lives close enough to the 1st District, conducts business in the 1st district, a total NON-ISSUE. Now if he lived up in Greenville, that could pose a problem, but not a deal killer. You could live anywhere in this State and be familiar with, and influential in any district that you desire to. It just all depends on the person. VOTE BOSTIC

Agreed Charlie, he’s totally immersed in Charleston politics, and knows the district well. This article is misguided and rather childish, the writer must be a novice, at best, in politics. I wonder if the writer is aware that the 1st Congressional District runs from Myrtle Beach all the way down to Hilton Head?? Duhhhh, does that mean someone in Hilton Head is less attractive as a candidate that someone that lives in Myrtle Beach?? Or how about someone that lives right on the border of the 1st district, a suburb of Charleston. A total non-issue, definitely voting for BOSTIC.
