Charleston attorney Curtis Bostic won’t be able to vote for himself in the upcoming Republican primary for the first congressional district.
Why not? According to both his voter registration information and Charleston County property records, Bostic currently resides in a seven bedroom home located at 7218 S.C. Highway 165 in Ravenel, S.C.
Take a look …

Why does this matter? Because this address is located in South Carolina’s sixth congressional district – which is represented by U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn – not the first district Bostic is hoping to represent in the U.S. Congress.
Earlier this month we gave former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford grief for campaigning in the wrong congressional district … little did we know one of his challengers actually lived in the wrong district.
By law Bostic – a former Charleston County councilman – is still eligible to run for the first district seat. In South Carolina any citizen can run for any congressional district regardless of whether they live within its boundaries or not.
But why would they? And more importantly …
“Why would you vote for someone who doesn’t live in (your) district?” one politico told us. “That’s a deal breaker.”
Bostic’s campaign did not immediately respond to our questions regarding his residency status.
Bostic is one of sixteen Republicans currently seeking the GOP nomination for the first district seat – which was vacated earlier this year by newly appointed U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.
What do you think? Vote in our poll and post your thoughts in our comments section below …
UPDATE: Curtis Bostic has responded to our report: “My residence is not in the first district,” he confirms in an email to FITS. “The Constitution does not require one have residency in the district but in the state.”

Actually it isn’t just a South Carolina thing that you don’t have to live in the district to be eligible to run for the US House. Article I, Section 2, Clause 2 of the US Constitution states “No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.” The Supreme Court has interpreted this as meaning that the states can not add additional requirements to those imposed by the Constitution, e.g. reside in the district, or set term limits. For an example see “U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton”, 514 U.S. 779 (1995)
Though I do recommend you read Justice Thomas’s dissent which justifies such actions.

No shit Constantine the point is that if people want to vote for someone in district 6 to represent them then I suggest they move to district 6. Plus the fact that mr holier than thou Bostic has withheld this from the public eliminates all his credibility (that is if he had any to begin with).
So Dems for Limehouse??? It looks like Bostic is in the wrong District and Limehouse is in the wrong Party!!!!
Chip Limehouse is not beholden to any party, political philosophy or principles. He is beholden to a small group of important people who know what is best for the rest of us. If he is not shoveling pork down his throat he is delivering it in the form of earmarks and favors to this elite but critical group of decision makers.
He hasn’t withheld this! What do you expect? You think his signs should include a disclaimer? What he is doing is LEGAL and people do it all the freaking time. Give me a break.
Then why did he remove a link to this story from his Facebook page and why has he not bothered to let people know. If you think people don’t care whether a candidate lives in the district he represents than you are clueless.

Why Is he running in the First if he doesn’t even live in the district? That’s moronic. Go run in the 6th where you actually live!!!

If anyone votes for this blowhard, you get what you deserve. I will not vote for someone that doesn’t represent my district.

Bostic is just the type of candidate we need to run against Clyburn, why wouldn’t he do that instead?

Clowns. All of them. Following SC-1 is better than anything on “reality” TV, I’ll give them that. Every morning I get a great new episode.

No big deal
Voters in South Carolina have been known to vote for candidates from outer space
Well if not from outer space, several have been out of their fucking mind
After reading your posts for the last couple of years, I’m beginning to think you are the “Sage” of SC.

Perhaps you should show a photo of his business, which is on Wappoo Rd, or his church, which is on Arlington Dr. If you were a tax-paying business owner in Charleston County, you would know why he is running in District 1. and too bad the satellite photo wasn’t taken when he had over 600 local public servants, firemen, police officers, and the like over to his “large estate” for a free day of Charleston Salutes the last two years. If you only knew…
Hey, “If you only knew” is exactly the issue!!!!! Mr. Bostic should have told EVERY VOTER he asked for support that he does not currently live in the District!
What Kuyperdog said ^. They deleted the link to this article when I posted it to his Facebook page. Don’t want people to know I guess… Shameful.
What an absurd article. The Constitution makes no realms for what district you must live in to represent a people. Age, state residency- that is all that is required. To not vote for someone just because they do not live in your district is a childish way of alienating a fellow SC citizen who desires good for all of SC, not just his district. You actually have to commend someone for stepping outside of his living zone to represent a people he believes in. Why run for this seat instead of the 6th district seat opening next year? Simple- because this seat offers a place in the US House of Representatives, not just our State HR- again, because Mr. Bostic is willing to represent ALL of SC not just his district.
I am appalled at such ignorance in a post of this sort- quite honestly, this is something less deserving of a web article and more deserving of a Facebook status. Pure opinion this is- no fundamental backing or Constitutional standing.
I don’t find the post absurd, appalling, or ignorant. It’s useful information and a nice find — haven’t seen it reported elsewhere and the issue actually matters to me (and I’m guessing, many others).
It’s not absurd, it’s the truth. Too bitter a pill to swallow?
I too find this post absurd, appalling, and ignorant. Just like every piece of trash this “Sic Willie” spews.

BosticBots, rather than shoot the messenger (in this case sic) why not ask your candidate why he chose to withhold this from the voters. His simple omission and attempt to hide this, clearly shows he has contempt for the public and is not worthy of elected office. The people of Charleston made a wise decision to vote him out.

I live in one Congressional District, but my bussiness interestes are in another. It is far more important to me if the district my business is in is successful than if the district my house is located in is successful. So who would I represent more if I am elected to Congress?

I posted a link to this article on Curtis Bostic’s Facebook page this morning and within ten minutes they deleted it. Guess they don’t want their supporters to know he does not live in the district. I didn’t editorialize or anything. Not exactly honest or straight forward now is it?

You know he knew. Scofflaw?

It doesn’t matter what his opponents think, the only thing that matters are what his supporters think, and right now he has a lot of them who respect him and think he is the most qualified. I also like lawyers who served in the military, as they are smart, have some integrity, and are in touch with the locals.

The bashing of Mr. Bostic & his son is incredibly immature. So what if his son is a celebrity, at least he’s DOING something with his life unlike your crackhead kids.
So what if his house technically is outside of the district, probably 90% of his time and income are spent in the 1st district! He actually gives his life to public service and betterment of society. Give me a break. Just because FITS hates Daniel Bostic doesn’t mean they should hate on his dad’s congressional run.
Daniel who? Who said anything about his son? Why should I hate him? As long as he helps clear his dad’s yard signs out of my neighborhood I’ll be happy.

Hes not a top tier candidate and hasnt been since he entered the race.Nor would it matter if he lived in the District. He will probably come in fifth or sixth.
Not according to phone polls, I have a contact in Sanford’s HQ and Bostic is causing them some serious concern….I heard he was polling 2nd behind Sanford, then Grooms, then Nash. Don’t know specific numbers.
Obviously, based on this post and the below one, you are a supporter of Bostics.Thats ok,but, except for supporters like you,I have heard no serious observer who believes he is in the top four(Sanford,Limehouse,Grooms and Turner).

I would vote for someone from Duncan-Lyman-Welford if they understood the value of our state’s ENERGY and the SLAVERY we all live in. My concern is that we need to start sending candidates to DC that have proven TEETH when they say something. Heck, we all know that WIl Folks would do a better job serving and communicating in a transparent way better than ANY of the candidates seeking this seat.
Do any of these candidates have a daily WEB show..??
Do any of these candidates have daily input to any WEB site that can be tracked in real time via FACEBOOK or twitter..!?
Do any of these candidates demonstrate actions that help the WAR EFFORT on a daily basis..!?
DO any of these candidates offer any SOLUTIONS that citizens can invest in..1?
Have any of these candidates voted on anything that the taxpayers were never aware of BEFORE the vote…!?
The main concern anyone should have with Curtis Bostic is the oversight he had concerning the expansion of the LANDFILL and the TRASH issues with Charleston COUNTY. His silence in educating SC Voters about NEW technology that allows for LOCAL sud-division level trash energy production is glaring. His failure to divulge the national security issues with continued centralized energy production instead of de-centralized energy production puts us all in a elevated energy security posture.!!
It is one thing to burp methane to corporate lobbyists (Waste Management) but when it is in direct obstruction of national security issues is another..!!
You just went from concerns to national security concerns. FITS readers crack me up :P

He lives close enough to the 1st District, conducts business in the 1st district, a total NON-ISSUE. Now if he lived up in Greenville, that could pose a problem, but not a deal killer. You could live anywhere in this State and be familiar with, and influential in any district that you desire to. It just all depends on the person. VOTE BOSTIC

Agreed Charlie, he’s totally immersed in Charleston politics, and knows the district well. This article is misguided and rather childish, the writer must be a novice, at best, in politics. I wonder if the writer is aware that the 1st Congressional District runs from Myrtle Beach all the way down to Hilton Head?? Duhhhh, does that mean someone in Hilton Head is less attractive as a candidate that someone that lives in Myrtle Beach?? Or how about someone that lives right on the border of the 1st district, a suburb of Charleston. A total non-issue, definitely voting for BOSTIC.
