Teddy Turner doesn’t like the notion of gun buyback programs … in fact the would-be Congressman ripped them a new one on his Facebook page.
“Participating in a gun buy back because you believe that the criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you believe that the neighbors have too many kids,” Turner wrote, parroting a popular quote among Second Amendment advocates.
Turner’s entry prompted one of his Facebook friends to suggest that he not “shoot (himself) in the foot” on social media.
“I would rather lose and be me than win and be someone else,” Turner replied.
Good for him …
We’ve yet to make up our mind about Turner’s candidacy – which has had its share of missteps – but when it comes to government-run “buyback” programs, we like the cut of his jib. Turner is one of sixteen candidates running for the South Carolina first congressional district seat vacated earlier this year by newly appointed U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.
UPDATE: “Cut of your jib?” Really? You bitches don’t sail?

The goal of the buy back is to gather and destroy guns that may end up in the hands of a criminal when they are stolen or sold to the criminal at an unregulated private sale.
Obviously people who are using the guns are not going to sell their guns. These are guns people do not want or guns held by people who need cash. If the government does not buy these guns, the people who have them are going to potentially sell them to someone who will buy them. I.E. criminals.
How can you support someone to stupid to understand this concept?
I believe you mean, “too stupid to understand”.
If you need to sell your guns to get you’ll get a way better deal selling to actual gun dealers than to the government. Usually at most all you’ll get from the government is $200. Some have only offered $50. Guns in working order are worth a whole lot more than what the government will give you.
That may be true for some people. But there are a lot of people out there who have never set foot in a gun shop, and never will. They have a gun, they see the gun buy back advertised. They don’t want the gun or want cash, so they go there and turn it in. This is the exact same type of person who is likely to have that gun stolen, or give it to a friend who gives or sells it to a friend; or sell it to some guy on the street.
In the end, it comes do to whether you believe the Police or the NRA as to whether gun buy backs reduce the number of guns on the street.
In this case, I would lean toward believing the NRA.
the police and the NRA are in complete agreement, gun buybacks is leprechuan fools gold, disarming the poor

Gun buy back programs have not been proven to do anything like what their proponents claim, they are a complete waste of money. Like all gun control legislation they do nothing to address the real problem. I have a busted piece o crap that I just haven’t disposed of yet and guess what, it’s only a matter of time before Steve Benjamin has his very own gun buy back program (it is way too tempting for him to resist) and I’ll get his $200 and recover the funds I thought I had lost on this gun. So, do it, please! I don’t live in Richland County but I’ll sure drive over there for $200 (Richland County TAX dollars, that penny sales tax will come in handy).

Well Jan, its pretty easy to support someone who does not understand the concept, when obviously Fits does not understand the concept.
As for EJB, you have absolutely no way of knowing whether gun buy backs have worked or not. You are either rendering to us you own opinion or NRA propaganda.
And why have you been holding on to your busted piece of crap? Why not just drop it in the trash bin?
Waiting for a gun buy back program, Democrats are a predictable lot.
For the record, what is the evidence that buy back programs work? Sounds like you are shilling for the gun control crowd, don’t forget to get the new talking points tomorrow morning.
Sounds like you’re trying to prove a negative. Good luck with that.

Studies show that buy-back programs cooincide with gun burglaries. Since these programs are usually “no questions asked”, criminals steal guns to get money from the government when they turn them in. Isn’t that like the government paying bad-guys to disarm the good-guys?!?
What is your source of that information?
What source was quoted that buy back programs work?

Studies show that people that read this site are right wing nut jobs, with a few from the left, unfair and imbalanced, but more balanced than Fox or Kos. (Except for the man love of Little Mick)
