If politics in this state is suffering from an identity crisis, we have only the GOP to blame for it, not well-intentioned people who are horrified by what they see around them and trying their best to do something. When the Democrats were driven out in the 90’s, and Campbell invited them to join the GOP, I thought great things would happen. Instead one monolithic party replaced the other, and so we still have one-party rule in SC. That has always been the problem going back to 1876 with the Restoration of the Bourbons–one group is certain is the right thing/the right answer for the state. Now we have Republicans calling each other names, voting for then criticizing scathingly their own hand-picked minority female governor, and manufacturing one crisis after another. You cannot be a viable party of all you say is NO. The GOP needs to do more than just say no. It needs to stand up and be counted. Clarify the issues. Talk about market-based school choice. Explain why market solutions are better, in your opinion, than government solutions. Draw sharp contrasts with the progressive view of things. Explain yourself. Stop sticking knives into each other and the people of this state. I am so fucking sick and tired of Republican bullshit and bitching and so-called “leadership.” My life and the lives of the average South Carolinian were much better in days gone by. I felt that lawmakers in Columbia back then cared about the people. Not so now.

All you need to know about the “Free Citizen’s Party” is that Jim “the edumicashun candadidiot” Rex is involved with it.
Rex is a boob of the first magnitude and Lovelace’s total political experience is working on a health care task force set up by the “Luv Guv” (he’s a doctor).

At least they have the guts to do it. Fits and his buddy Rand Paul keep complaining about the Republican party but won’t run as a Libertarian or create their own teaparty. I dont’ think there is any President that would make it on Fits requirements.

Soft Sigh from Hell February 13, 2013 at 8:53 pm

South Carolina residents are not truly free citizens. Collectively, and often in small groups and even personally, they portray an attitude somewhere between serfs and peasants. They are as nice of people as you will find, but they display almost a feudal submissiveness to their traditional rulers, both grand and petty. It’s a bit hard to believe so much of the Revolutionary War was fought here.

Hell, that actually sounds like what Haley has morphed into since taking office, so it might actually draw equally from her and Sheheen’s support. So what’s the point?

How about the “We’re Just Like Haley and Sheheen, Just Not As Corrupt Party of South Carolina?” No? OK, I’ll keep workin’ on it.
