U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) wants the nation’s oldest gun manufacturer to move its New York facilities to South Carolina.
In a letter to George Kollitides – the chief executive officer of Remington’s parent company – Duncan urges Remington to relocate to the Palmetto State in the wake of New York’s restrictive new anti-gun laws. Earlier this month Empire State Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation banning assault weapons and magazine clips containing more than seven bullets. The so-called “NY SAFE Act” – which was approved without public hearings or committee debate – also imposed new restrictions on gun ownership.
In fact numerous law enforcement personnel are protesting the passage of the bill.
“We believe based on our years of law enforcement experience that this will not reduce gun violence,” notes a position statement signed by more than fifty county Sheriffs in New York.
“The enemies of freedom are waging an all-out assault on the Second Amendment to the Constitution which we have sworn to protect and defend,” Duncan wrote. “At a time when our government is consistently thwarting the ability of individuals to own businesses, voluntarily trade goods and services, and grow our economy, South Carolina is committed to writing a different story. We believe in the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our state welcomes any individual or business who believes the same.”
Founded in 1816, Remington has been manufacturing guns in Illion, New York for nearly two centuries – although its corporate headquarters is located in North Carolina in 1996. The company also has facilities in Arkansas, Kentucky, Ohio and Oklahoma.
Naturally we support Duncan’s efforts to convince companies to move their jobs and investment to South Carolina – although we oppose government-funded incentives on the grounds they shift the state’s tax burden.
If Remington wants to bring its jobs here, they are more than welcome – just as long as our state’s taxpayers and existing businesses aren’t forced to subsidize their move.

After coming across as a real heavyweight during the Benghazi hearing, wait not as in knowledgeable and ethical, no heavyweight as in lard ass moron, anyway I seen Hillary roll her eyes so hard she seen brain.
That’s the damn truth. Now maybe he’ll haul Cheney and Rumsfeld out there and ask some Iraq War questions.
No kidding. Duncan is a moron trying to capitalize on whatever moments he can. He’s a Lee Bright type on the national stage. Just what SC needs for a representative.
If SC wants to recruit business and foster a healthy business environment here they could simply do away with corporate income tax and not worry about the debates over “incentives” or an unequal playing field between those getting them and those not.
SC collect only a miniscule amount of Corp Income Tax. The unequal playing field is the high tax businesses pay on REAL PROPERTY. If you don’t do a decent Fee in Lieu, NOBODY will come. This is the tax structure that is killing business!!!
You’re absolutely right. I should amend my statement to reflect ALL corporate tax.
(including real property)
At least it got him an article on Fits, not going to happen of course.
Way to go Mick. Why don’t you and the Gypsy Queen offer them free use of the Boeing Complex down in Charleston.
There is serious doubt that Boeing’s dream will ever be anything other than a nightmare.
With you running the negotiations I’m sure a deal from Heaven can be offered to Remington.
Damn, now I can’t get the names of the fucking cockroaches straight.
…. did Jeff clear this with Nikki before contacting Remington?

What is the point of NY’s 7-round limit? Under the law, you are allowed to have 10-round capacity magazine, but you may only load it with 7 rounds.
I would understand if these were hunting regulations, but it’s absurd to think that a self-imposed 7-shot limit is going to deter a criminal from loading all 10. Whatever you think about the legality and efficacy of limiting the size of magazines, NY’s law makes no sense. .
The law was written and forced through in a rush to exploit tragedy, and avoid public scrutiny. It should be no surprise if it has serious flaws. I believe they even forgot to exempt law enforcement, which is SOP for anti-gun laws. Now they have to pass another bill to fix it, so that cops can still legally carry guns with a higher magazine capacity than law-abiding citizens may own.
SC should go through with nullifying Federal authority over firearms made and retained in SC.
“There is serious doubt that Boeing’s dream will ever be anything other than a nightmare.”
Doubt by who, anyone who matters? Anyone with an aviation background or just some dumbshit tech-illiterates?
Normal teething problems for complex systems sometime ground fleets for a bit while they are sorted out. So what? It’s only money. There is more to be made when things like the battery problem (no fault of the SC plant) are sorted out.
SC should go through with nullifying Federal authority over firearms made and retained in SC.
Are there any decent firearms made in SC? I genuinely don’t know of any, just asking.
FN Manufacturing
Columbia
“Quality” is subjective, so I’ll leave it up to the rest of you to discuss.
They are a well known company. Last time I was in there they were doing gov’t contract work, mostly M16’s-that was some time ago. I believe some M30’s too. Not to say they don’t make other things there, my understanding is that they’ve upgraded their equipment considerably in the last few years.
The FN (I think that is the correct current name for the factory; it used to be Platt Sacho-Lowell) manufactures a shit load of firearms including M-16’s/M-4’s and the old M-60 machine gun barrels (maybe even the whole gun) and other military firearms and even maybe some civilian firearms.
When I was stationed at Little Rock AFB, I used to pass by the Remington plant on I-40 on the way to Little Rock.
As most of you know that shit head Lee Bright brought up a bill a few years back to endorse/establish gun manufacturing factories here in SC ONLY for sale within the state’s borders.
That bill for endorsement/encouragement/whatever to build a manufacturing factory has NEVER gotten off the ground (just like his hare-brained “light-bulb” factory bill with the same conditions)
If that dickhead spent more time straightening out the DOR fuck-up instead of these hare-brained ideas (not too mention creating bills making sure everyone qualifies for a fucking militia so they can sleep with their weapons or nullification BS or hiding gold underneath the statehouse among all the other BS he does to curry favor to the TEA party nuts), this state just MIGHT get somewhere.
I need to correct the “M30” to “M60″…not sure which variant.
My mixed up brain switch #’s between model & caliber(which is confusing because it’s based on a Nato/MM round derivation).
Yea, Sparkle got the stuff coming out of there right.
Btw Sparkle, FN has a relationship with Browning…I get the feeling it’s the Browning side calling the shots. But that’s based on perception, not evidence.
There is/was some Winchester association as well.
It’s all industry consolidation stuff.
@By?
Yeah, FN is a BIG international weapons conglomerate (I think they are Belgin based) Their 7.62 mm rifle (I forget the model) has been a mainstay for British and many other military organizations for YEARS. Damn good weapon(looks like what a military rifle ought to – IMHO, kinda like the old M-14 – but then again, I’m “old school”). Probably not very good for close quarters but I’d take one in a heartbeat.
It was one of the top 10 military rifles on “Military Channel” (as well as it should be).
Let’s face it, EVERYTHING is industrial consolidation these days. Just the other day, I read where Amerada Hess is getting out of the refining business by selling that branch to some other corporation. Gs is already headed back up (for now anyway)
“Soylent Green”(aka ConAgra)lifestyle is probably 25-50 years out fer sure…..
I knew about FN Manufacturing being here, but wasn’t very knowledgeable on the quality of what they produce. Both of you gave a lot of good info, though. Thanks!
Smirks:
Anything for you Bud!!!
Jeff Duncan is an idiot
X2
Plus, instead of having to pay your employees $20 – $30 per hour with benefits, you can come to South Carolina and pay them $10 per hour and no benefits!!
FN or FNH or Fabrique Nationale d’Herstal, make very high quality firearms, and even though they aren’t manufactured in the SC plant, their FNX handguns are highly sought after. 90% of SC products are indeed military contracts, mostly international I believe.
FN has been a partner with Browning in various firearms for a very long time. They are Belgium based and well respected just as the Belgium Browning shotgun was world famous. They go through various DoD contracts making small arms and machine guns. Why not include Colt they are in Connecticut and getting there ass reamed from every direction.
“Plus, instead of having to pay your employees $20 – $30 per hour with benefits, you can come to South Carolina and pay them $10 per hour and no benefits!!”
Which (skilled) firearms company workers make only ten bucks an hour?
Come on Remington, you know you want a workforce comprised of inbred, mouth breathing, knuckle-dragging, chain smoking, beer swilling Dale Earnhardt fans. You don’t have to pay them much, just enough to keep them in Budweiser, cigarettes and they can make their trailer payments.
Oh, good. More guns for the well armed nuts who love guns more than life! I do not know what to say. Just more insane things the rest of the country can laugh at us about. HooWoo!
BTW, wasn’t he just a shining example of all that is good about SC during the hearings? ((eye roll))
