FREE AT LAST?

This website is an ardent defender of the U.S. Constitution and the individual liberties and limited form of government it outlined for a fledgling nation. However we’re not foolish enough to assert the infallibility of America’s founding blueprint. For example the U.S. Constitution not only viewed blacks as “three-fifths” human – but as property capable of being bought, sold or bartered. Meanwhile blacks and women were barred from voting – let alone holding elected office.

These are glaring omissions – incompatible with any modern definition of individual liberty. And thankfully these injustices have been rectified over the past two-and-a-half centuries.

One reason? The life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist preacher from Alabama (by way of Atlanta) whose leadership in the civil rights movement cost him his life – but earned him a place in American history as one of the foremost proponents of liberty. In fact we can’t think of any American who more steadfastly, passionately and eloquently advocated on behalf of the basic “inalienable” freedoms upon which this nation was founded.

We’ve heard the allegations against King – that he was a closet communist and a moral degenerate whose personal life was wholly incompatible with his public preaching.

Whatever. Even if those things were true, they don’t diminish what he stood for or what he was able to accomplish on behalf of liberty.

Here’s the problem, though. Well … there are two problems, a pair of inescapable truths which cast long shadows over what ought to be a day of celebration for black Americans.

First and foremost, for far too many blacks King’s dream has been co-opted by shameless, self-serving poverty pimps who would rather see their people remain in economic chains than letting them avail themselves of the market-based reforms capable of truly setting them free. For an example take a look at South Carolina’s worst-in-the-nation government-run school system, which owes its ongoing monopoly status (and effective enslavement of generations of black children) to the monolithic support it receives from black elected officials.

On so many issues these despicable “black leaders” fatten their pockets with the spoils of office – at the same time insisting taxpayers subsidize the equality of outcomes in this country, not the equality of opportunity.

That’s a major distinction, people. Equality of opportunity is a fundamental, God-given right. The forced equality of outcomes? That’s socialism.

Second, the freedoms King fought so courageously to obtain for black Americans are currently being eroded for all Americans. Consider this: When an unelected, unaccountable central bank lends and prints money at will – this makes it harder for all income earners to stretch their dollars. Same with the recent payroll tax hike. Also, do warrantless wiretaps not affect black Americans? What about Obamacare’s insidious individual mandate? And will blacks be exempted from the coming “War on Guns?”

One of King’s most famous quotes is that “injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere.”

Well justice is currently under siege everywhere, and it’s up to all Americans – black and white – to stand up for it.

Saw some old film footage of MLK. He referred to those of his race as “Negroes”. I never did see what was wrong with that word, but then we went to African-American, people of color, blacks, etc. If “Negro” was good enough for Martin, it’s good enough for me.

I have no problem stretching my dollar because inflation is very low or non-exist.

The GOP believes the deficit is the problem. It is not. Jobs and unemployment are the problem. Housing is coming back, construction is coming back, credit card debt is going up, mortgage rates are late, banks and credit unions. The stock market is up. The economy is in good repair mode after the banks and George Bush almost drove us into a Depression.

FITS is always more than a touch wrong. Don’t know where you get your info. You never cite any authorities for your propositions. You blather like all the wingnuts do, and the uncritical minds you cater to never question your premises.

“The GOP believes the deficit is the problem. It is not.” You are right ceilidh10, it is idiotic citizens like you who are the real problem. After all, it is morons like you who fail to understand that economics has laws that are just as real as the laws of physics. And just as we can see and sometimes feel the laws of gravity, you can bet that we will soon feel the laws related to the scarcity of resources.

Demand, or the inablity to satisfy it is the real problem. Demand is at the bottom, and yes the resources aren’t down there pushing up.

Wow. A thinly disguised tribute to a great American wrapped in your own pro-gun agenda. Do you really just have one track? If so, lets make it about Haley again. That’s alot more fun and certainly more relevant.

But while we’re on the subject of guns.. if the founding fathers were wrong about the status of blacks and who should be allowed to vote, couldn’t they have been wrong about the right to bear arms too? Or do the rights given us in the Constitution only matter when they support what you believe? Like the Bible.

PattiAnne, most Republicans don’t believe the Founders were wrong about blacks and women voting.

Jan: Don’t I know it. I was raised by Republicans. My mother only watches Fox News and has a bumper sticker that says ‘Rush is right’. My dad was career military. When I finally learned how to think for myself and realized how brain-washed GOP followers are, I was sad for them and scared for our country. Thankfully, they are outnumbered now and sanity is slowly seeping into our government/country.

I will have to kindly say that the two previous posts were nothing but retarded regurgitated drivel of the feminist indoctrination that their authors are completely unaware they are brainwashed by.

King was also a plagiarist. There are only two holidays who celebrate the birthdays of people: today and Christmas. Just saying…

typically, this false praise of martin luther king is nothing more than yet ANOTHER RACIST article from this site, which is quite adept at race baing in a tone that intends to be plausibly deniable, yet while feeding its base irresitible morsels of hardly-veiled racist insults of black people and their leaders. my favorite lines were the following:

“We’ve heard the allegations against King – that he was a closet communist and a moral degenerate whose personal life was wholly incompatible with his public preaching.
Whatever. Even if those things were true…” HILARIOUS. and i love how you sum up and then solve the problems of black america: by (1)claiming “poverty pimps” are the worst problem you can seem to locate and then (2)claiming that problems in black america are really just the same problems for all americans. LOL!!!!!!
its your version of drawing the muhammad cartoons, but doing it with the most revered black leader in american history. Personally, i prefer malcolm x.

Good points, Rap! I didn’t see any comment in the article about MLK’s main accuser and tormentor during his lifetime…J. Edgar Hoover. The masonic monument in DC has a display dedicated to the cross-dressing, murdering hypocrite and even has his bronzed baby shoes on display. All that’s missing is an eternal flame. Rumor has it that Hoover’s ghost has been spotted pissing on the one over JFK’s grave.

First the packages get lighter

Then the quality diminishes

And by the time a jumbo bag of chips can’t make it around the table during a Sat. lunch and the kids are fighting over that last slice of bread,

The dollar will be toast.

You’re right about the quality thing. I just purchased a couple of Banquet chicken pot pies. Hadn’t had one in many years. They used to be an easy quick, and tasty meal if you were in a rush or didn’t feel like spending an hour in the kitchen.

They were gross beyond description. The quality has definitely slid down to zero.

I also took the family to “California Dreaming” in Charleston (where I live). I ordered a big seafood platter. At $22.95 I figured it had to be decent. What I got were a few little bitty fried imported shrimp, a few gooey oysters, some fried blue crab legs, and a small batch of fries along with a spinach side dish that was absolutely disgusting. WTF? Fried blue crab legs! There had to be less than 50 cents wholesale in the mess that the waiter put on my table. The greedy pigs who run this chain are clueless money wonks. Whatever maximizes their bottom line is A-OK.

Next time I’ll just fry up some dog turds at home. I can do that for a lot less than $22.95 and wind up with a tastier and more nutritious meal.

Wasn’t my choice. I was told to meet folks there. I expected more, however, when I saw multi-million dollar building on equally expensive waterfront property on harbor. Evidently, the overhead is so high that corners have to be cut somewhere. They chose to cut food quality.

I don’t understand how the name of a restaurant can be construed as getting “exactly what you deserved,” however, and I leave it to lesser minds to scrape the humor out of that inane comment.

Inflation is most evident in the size of the containers of store bought blueberries versus a few years ago….it’s almost comical.
