I know Amy Lazenby, and I know for sure that she likes Sic a hell of lot better than the way the source above characterized her comments. (I’d also love to see new articles by her on FITS, but that’s another matter entirely) She is undoubtedly libertarian on many issues – just not so much on the issue of restricting gun ownership. Also, if you think that those on the left who say they own guns but oppose the NRA’s present stance are all lying about it, you’re dead wrong. Plenty do, especially women who concealed-carry them or keep them in their homes for self-protection. I know plenty of leftie women, in fact, who own several and may be packing at any given time.

Some of the statements made by those on the right about left-wing gun law hypocrisy are on the mark, though. It’s absolutely true that at one point there was general support for blacks owning guns to protect themselves from “The Man.” But it’s also true what the left is saying about Reagan and other conservatives, as well as the NRA itself having had far more moderate positions on the gun control issue in past decades than those that dominate the right today.

A sense of perspective and context on all of this doesn’t hurt a bit.

I’m curious as to what libertarian views Amy holds? The vast majority of posts from her on Polistew seemed pretty anti-gun. I saw one or two that were not gun related, and they didn’t sound very libertarian to me. So, is she libertarian because she says she is? I know lots of people like that, and their views on most issues are not libertarian. It is hip, though, to claim to be libertarian these days.

Wilson is punching way above his weight with that hot wife of his. Kudos to him.

The Ms. Laz write up is pretty funny. I guess she got tired of having people disagree with her viewpoints here and decided to seek a less active audience. lol….”Polistew”? Who’s heard of that?

I’ve a few better names that might make it more marketable:

“Polipew”, “Polistupid”, “Polishstew”, “Poliwho?”

Awwwww….now I’m just being mean. Anyway, it’s always funny to me when those wanting gun regulations include in their arguments, “I own/like guns!”

It’s smacks of the whole “I’m not a racist” argument when people say “I have black friends”….yea, yea..sure.

I appreciate hot women of every nationality, religion/non-religion and ethnicity. “Jewish Princess” is a hackneyed, obsolete stereotype. I also don’t care about how she came off on the air or what anyone knows or think they know about how she conducts herself socially or in her marriage. I’m going on the visuals and the visuals alone – and not a single pic I’ve ever seen of her presents anything but hotness.

Therefore: She’s hot.

Amy Lazenby January 18, 2013 at 4:32 pm

Well, gentlemen, this has been an interesting discussion.

1) To ?: As to my position as a gun owner who is for common sense gun control, please refer to the context in which my statements were made. The president asked for people who live in areas that have a strong tradition of gun ownership to speak up in an attempt to get their representatives to vote for such measures, and that is what I was doing. My op-ed was quite clear on that, so I do wonder about your comprehension skills.

Also, I’d love to see your website – the one where you post well written articles and op-eds on political events of the day from yourself and your contributors and open yourself up for criticism under your actual name and image. What’s that? You don’t have one? You hind behind an anonymous name and avatar and comment on other people’s work? Let me know when you grow a pair and an identity, and then we can have an exchange of ideas like grown ups.

2) To CUvinny: Because Will publishes a profile photo of me with everything I write – as is the norm with columnists – and because I have read this site for years and was already familiar with some of the frequent commenters here, I expected the blatant mysogyny in the comments on my pieces. My gender and appearance should not be up for discussion, but they are with those who cannot make logical arguments in response to my work. I appreciate that you recognize that and are not one of those people. Fortunately for FITSNews, there are some intellectuals who read and comment on this site. I hope they don’t get drowned out by the mouth breathers. Thank you for your kind words about my site as well.

3) To anyone curious about my political views – there are some areas of crossover between modern day liberals (that’s me) and libertarians, who descend from the Classical Liberal school of thought. I believe in the legalization of drugs and am opposed to almost all foreign military intervention and nation-building. I have written about those issues here and on my own site. You’re welcome to re-read for comprehension, or not. I am opposed to the NDAA, warrantless wiretapping, and unmanned drone strikes on civil liberty grounds. That’s the extent of my libertarianism.

That should sum it all up for you guys. Have a lovely weekend.

Well instead of wondering about my comprehension skills, maybe you should work on your own-as my comments had nothing to do with your mission given to you by the President,Ms. Secret Agent girl.

As for starting a website, with the plethora of options available within the sea of commentary already available on the internets I don’t feel the need to do so. I’m busy being productive in other ways.

That being said, if you feel you have something unique to contribute-great. I don’t see that, but maybe one day “Politistew” will be the next Huffinton Post, or FITSnews for that matter-and you can bask in proving me wrong.

In the mean time enjoy the ‘FITSnews’ bump you’ll be getting on your site and maybe one day you’ll be able to pass along the favor to someone else by drawing people to your site based on the quality of it’s information.

Finally, the last time I checked “Classically Liberal” happens to represent among other things laissez faire economics and limited gov’t. In what was my second, and probably last visit to your site I looked though at least twenty different postings and have yet to find anything addressing either of the two staple beliefs of a “Classically Liberal” person. Zero, nothing, NADA.

You also referenced the NDAA in your above diatribe, I found nothing on your site on that either….I see nothing about ending Obama’s drone strike programs or the two wars now being run under his administration-again a “Classically Liberal” stance…yet you have NOTHING.

Instead, I see a bunch of progressive talking points as shat out by MSM that seem to correspond to your posts in time line…and to which you attempt “add” to the discussion.

Good luck with your site! I’m sure Progressives will find it to their liking….anyone else? I doubt it.

Amy, you don’t support common sense gun control, you support gun control. Whether or not it is “common sense” is a matter of opinion. Whether or not what Barry and you support are appropriate responses to the Newtown tragedy is debatable. And whether or not what you and Barry support will do anything substantive to prevent future tragedies is even more debatable.

As for describing what you do as producing “well written articles,” it’s really up to readers to decide if your articles are written well. It’s a little gross when you do it. Also, can a woman really challenge a man to grow a pair? Or are you talking about a pair of something else?

I also find it ironic that you tell someone you appreciate he recognizes that your appearance should not be discussed, then thank him for the kind words about your site. He said it looked nice, not that the actual content had any merit.

Finally, I appreciate you attempting to clarify your political classification. I think it’s pretty clear you are simply a liberal, as you say, so I was curious why anyone would say you are in any way libertarian.

Perhaps Mr. Sloan would benefit from reading some Thomas Jefferson from Monticello.org:

1786 August 13. (to George Wythe) “I think by far the most important bill in our whole code is that for the diffusion of knowledge among the people. No other sure foundation can be devised, for the preservation of freedom and happiness…Preach, my dear Sir, a crusade against ignorance; establish & improve the law for educating the common people. Let our countrymen know that the people alone can protect us against these evils [tyranny, oppression, etc.] and that the tax which will be paid for this purpose is not more than the thousandth part of what will be paid to kings, priests and nobles who will rise up among us if we leave the people in ignorance.”[2]

….. which reminds me—-

A DHEC employee started his new business immediately after retirement. He developed and sold prefab outhouses (one and two-holers) – guaranteed not to smell.

One day his former supervisor at DHEC told him that there were many complaints received, and that he had to stop selling them.

Upon being told that they really did have strong odors, he went with the DHEC supervisor to look at them. He looked and then said, “Well no wonder they smell. Look what they did in them!”

Why is it necessarily bad that those are taxpayer-funded jobs? We demand the services, and there ought to then be somebody there to do the work. Besides, their paychecks still put money into the economy, unlike that shaved off by the wealthy and stashed in the Caymans.

And how TF is disaster relief NOT a core function of government, which ultimately is society working together to help its fellow man? If government only had one core function, that would be it, to my way of thinking.

It’s what we ought to be using the military for, instead of having them stationed in Germany or any number of other peaceful nations around the world where they aren’t really wanted.

/// One of your recent bloggers claimed school choice would promote “… corporate interest groups’ versions of revisionist history and other forms of ideologically (or religiously based) ignorance.” ///

I was the “blogger” (more accurately, “commenter”) who so opined. What is quoted was a caveat, however, and not what I consider to be a deal-breaker on the issue of school choice.

The “educrat” establishment is elitist, bloated and corrupt – and it is seemingly working overtime to keep our people ignorant and unemployed. I support the implementation of school choice as one component of much-needed education reform in South Carolina. Those who adamantly oppose it deprive all of the state’s citizens from the potential good it could do, simply because it is championed largely by the right and some of those who would benefit are wealthy.

That may be the “progressive” position but it does not lead to any real progress at all. It simply deepens one of the main problems faced by our state at this time.

Perhaps regarding gun violence, but not regarding violent crime. Per capita, European countries with more violent crime than the US include the UK, Austria, Sweden, Belgium and Finland. There are others, but you get the idea.

There are also several European countries with higher murder rates than the US. They include Greenland (by a ton), Russia, Moldova, Lithuania, Ukraine, Estonia, and Belarus.

So, if you are just concerned with gun violence, you may have a point. But if you are concerned with all violent crime, then, not so much.

Sid,

Curious to see where you go this info about violent crime. Would love to see the numbers, from legitimate source and not some right or left leaning website.

I lived in Europe for 20 years while serving in the Air Force…..and without a doubt can tell you I never had a problem walking in the worst part of the worst neighborhood at 2 am from bus or train station. Never had a care in the world that someone would shoot or rob me…..even drunk as a skunk. Hell, someone was shot in The Vista where I normally park till clubs close at 2 within the last 2 weeks.

That is a simplified version of the big picture. A, as in one gun incident made national news in either country and that was rarely…..gun incidents here are back page news daily.

As far as Britain being “more violent”……their violence mostly consists on drunk on drunk fighting over women late at night. A gun is not going to solve that problem, less gun control more extreme violence in these cases.

Violent crime rates came from a 2009 article posted to the Mail Online (part of the Daily Mail) in the UK, which cited “Conservatives, EU Commission, UN” as its source (whatever all that means):

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1196941/The-violent-country-Europe-Britain-worse-South-Africa-U-S.html

It’s possible there have been some changes since then, but since the US violent crime rate has been declining for roughly 20 years, I can’t imagine we’ve moved ahead of any of those countries I mentioned.

The homicide rates came from Wikipedia, which cited the UN Office on Drugs and Crime as its source:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

I try not to rely too much on anecdotal evidence when discussing violent crime rates, but that’s great that you had no problems. Anecdotally, I know several people who did not share your experience when they were in Europe. Statistically, the people who live there seem to also have a different experience.

As for the UK, I’d be curious to see where you go to get this information about the violence there mostly consisting of “drunk on drunk fighting over women late at night.” That’s just one nation mentioned, however. Even if you are correct, which I doubt, what gives with the others?

Again, I don’t dispute that gun violence is higher here. But violence is violence, as far as I’m concerned. The safe haven of Europe you imagine seems to have several countries that outpace us on violent crime, as well as homicides. Dead is dead, so I doubt the victims or their families take much comfort in knowing they were beaten or stabbed to death, rather than shot.

Regarding the life members of the Clemson Board of Trustees, I don’t recall seeing any past comments on why they exist. Thomas Clemson’s will left 814 acres to the State of South Carolina as the site for an agicultural college. His will sets out in detail that there are to be 7 life trustees who are named in the will and also provides for their replacement. The General Assembly accepted this devise in 1889 and expressly accepted the life trustee structure as set out in the Clemson will. Looks like your problem lies with the General Assembly and not with the life trustees or the Board. The will and the joint resolution are at the link below.

What people like Bednar and others are attempting to bring to light, and which would be brought to light in a state with an actual mass media, is that the Clemson Board of Trustees and administration recently spent more than $1 million in legal fees arguing that Clemson is an arm of the state and therefore cannot be sued by a private party. It worked. Matthew Perry agreed. Now Clemson Board members want to argue that there is nothing illegal about their lifetime status based on legislation that their own attorneys effectively argued was no longer relevant. In other words, they want the best of both worlds, and in this state, they are obliged.

Hilarious. I’m far from bald. My hairline didn’t even start receding until my 40s, and it hasn’t gone very far at all. Fat and old, yeah, I’m that, but so what? Only weak-minded youth-obsessed fucking idiots attack people for their body weight and for managing to stay alive a few decades beyond 30. Desperate? Please, son, you’ve got to be trippin’.

Please point me to the poll confirming you assertions about what is “known” in this state about the hotness of Mrs. Wilson. Thank you in advance.

The word on the street is that you are really not 9″, but that you learned about rounding up (8&1/32 == 9)?

Yea, this must be an old picture. They neither one look like that anymore. I saw her at the gym (Believe it was Golds) a few years back and my verdict Ehh Not attractive.
