Murder Is The Case … Against Chicago

TOUGH GUN LAWS + LEFTIST MAYOR = MURDER CAPITAL OF AMERICA

Chicago, Illinois has one of the nation’s strictest anti-Second Amendment laws. It also has one of the nation’s most liberal mayors – former Barack Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel (who was elected to lead the city in a 2011 landslide).

So … liberal policy and “progressive” anti-gun laws naturally make Chicago a peaceful place to live, right?

Not at all … in fact Chicago was America’s “Murder Capital” in 2012, with 505 homicides. That’s one murder for every 5,338 residents. By contrast there were 414 murders last year  in New York City – which is more than three times as big as Chicago. Do that math and you wind up with one murder for every 19,747 Big Apple residents.

Another twelve homicides were reported in Chicago during the first week of 2013.

Bear in mind as you ponder these numbers that assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are currently banned in Chicago. In fact until recently there was an effective handgun ban in place (which was ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court).

Astoundingly Emanuel continues to believe tougher gun laws are what’s needed to stop this rash of murderous violence – and announced last week he would be rolling out tougher anti-Second Amendment ordinances later this month. Sound familiar? It’s exactly what his former boss (and Chicago resident) Barack Obama is doing in Washington, D.C.

Emanuel is also insisting that public pension funds take money out of gun manufacturing companies (despite the fact that the gun business is booming these days).

Here’s the thing, though … what makes Emanuel (or for that matter Obama) think the criminals responsible for these murders are going to follow these new laws? And more importantly, if criminals aren’t going to abide by tougher gun laws, why should (otherwise) law-abiding citizens?

The answer to that last question is simple: They shouldn’t …

Anti-Second Amendment laws don’t stop violence … they invite it. Meanwhile elevated levels of gun ownership have been proven to deter violent crime, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s annual reports make abundantly clear.

Oh well … maybe Chicago will get lucky and lose its mayor to gun violence in the coming year. That would certainly be a fitting irony, wouldn’t it?

Sadly: It’s a fact that violent crime, and murder, is worse in palce w/ Gun Control Laws…

But Liberals are either too Stupid to understand that…or too idealistic to care…

It’s why reasoning w/ them is no longer an option. And it’s why 2nd Amendment Rights are MORE iMPORTANT than ever right now…

When faced w/ Hatefeul and ignorant Tyrants, who defy logic, recourse is limited…

Just ask Geo. Washington, Abe Lincoln, Winston Churchill and Dwight D. Eisenhower…

How many of these murders are blacks or hispanics, and related to the drug trade?

Change our idiotic drug laws – but stiffen and enforce sentencing for violent gun crime – fund adequate prisons to house the bad guys, and get the minor players out of there and back to work.

Until the Black community in Chicago stops looking to the Government to solve their problems, their problems will get worse.

Suprised, anyone?

So NY has strict gun laws and is one of the safest big cities in the world and Chicago has strict gun laws and is the murder capital of the country. So gun laws cause violence, sometimes, or something. Perfect logic.

In any event, the statistics don’t bear out the Big T Sock Puppet’s theory on gun violence. Once again, the google function proves too difficult to use. By the way, we clock in at #6 behind #1 Louisiana that has very permissive gun laws that even allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit.

NYC is ranked around 20 for safest big cities in the world. It is, by some, considered the safest big city in the US. But that hasn’t always been the case. Violent crime in NYC was very high in the 80s, and pealed in 1990. It has been declining ever since. What changed? Not the gun laws. They have been extremely restrictive for a long time, and started down that path around 1911.

The causes of violent crime are very complex. Blaming it on guns is rather simplistic.

So NYC has a murder rate of one per 19,747.

And NYC has fairly comprehensive gun laws.

In Carolina del Sud – which is a God-fearin’ 2nd Amendment believin’ state – that was one murder per 14,622, or 26% higher than in NYC. So – NYC is 26% safer than South Carolina.

And at the city level – Columbia in 2010 had a murder rate of 13 per 100,000 – that’s substantially higher than the 8 per 100,000 in Mexico City.

So my take away is that steering clear of Chicago is a pretty good idea, New York is a great place to visit – and I’m safer in Mexico City than in Columbia. “Pedro Say – No Stop on I-20, Murders They Have A Plenty.”

Try again, Stephan. In 2010, Mexico City had 23 murders per 100,000. It has been climbing, steadily, since 2007, when it was last at eight per 100,000. In 2011, it hit 24/100,000.

Also, NYC’s rate was 6.3/100,000 for 2011, while SC’s was 6.8/100,000. For violent crime in 2011, NYC’s rate was 623.6/100,000, while SC’s was 571.9.

It may help if you use correct statistics, and comperable statistics, so you don’t confuse yourself.

and homicides in Spartanburg County are up dramatically in 2012 as well, and spartanburg is a republican area, where the sheriff has gone on WSPA multiple times and advised women to arm themselves and take courses learning how to shoot.

Lets see criminals don’t give a shit and don’t support politicians. The problem isn’t guns it is criminals.

Gun laws = more murder?
The opposite can be said about guns in Spartanburg. Sheriff Chuck Wright gets on his high horse and tells everyone to pack heat. What’s the murder rate there?

I don’t think anyone can say that gun control laws control murder. You can assume, though. Suddenly everyone’s an expert.

IF Gun Control is the Answer, then I suggest that the Good Mayor of Chicago set the example by disarming all of his body guards.

Furthermore, in order to be consistent, the President and V.P. should all dis-band their security patrols and give up their automatic assault rifles.

Seems reasonable.

AFter all, we are all equal before the law, right?

to compare Chicago with NYC without looking at their law enforcement is a bit of a reach. Even in the outer boroughs in NYC there is a substantial, friendly law enforcement presence. The same can be said for the central city portion of Chicago, however when you get into the tougher areas where the bulk of the murders take place, the difference is substantial.

The latest gun control controversy is yet another example of muddled liberal non-thinking.

A horrible tragedy occurs – 23 school children are murdered by a deranged madman – and Obama and the liberals are suddenly moved by it, and want to do something to prevent it from happening again.

I say “suddenly” for a reason – because apparently the shooting deaths of 23 young black men per month, one person at a time, is not moving enough.

The statistics on murders and gun crime are very interesting – in the U.S., gun crime and violent crime has dramatically decreased, despite tragedies like Newtown, Aurora, Columbine, etc.

These decreases continue, even as law abiding citizens are arming themselves at an unprecedented rate.

If the liberals were right, that increased gun ownership, including assault weapons, causes violent gun crime, then the statistics would be going the other way.

The truth, that the liberals and media wish to avoid, is that the overwhelming number of perpetrators of violent gun crime, as well as the victims, are poor uneducated young black and hispanic men, using cheap handguns, purchased illegally on the street.

If the Government really wanted to do something about gun related violence, it would ban take handguns away from young black and hispanic men. But, aha, the Government doesn’t really want to do anything to solve a problem, real or imagined – it just wants to acrete power unto itself.

The Second Amendment is a LIMITATION on the power of the Government. Therefore, it has to go. Tragedies like Newtown provide a great opportunity for the Government to use feelings rather than thinking to impinge on individual liberty.

That is the nature of Government today.

Will it succeed in further restricting your Constitutional rights? Probably. Will this result in less gun crime? No.

If you really want to make a difference, go buy a gun, learn to use it, get a CWP, and if you find yourself in a situation where you need to use it to stop a crime in progress or protect yourself or your loved ones, shoot to kill.

Tough talk, but truth is sometimes hard.
