AND WILL IT BE AN iPHONE KILLER?
After years of residing exclusively in the PC world, our founding editor Will Folks (a.k.a. Sic Willie) has become a loyal Apple owner over the last year. His current “mothership” is a 2012 iMac, but he’s also got an iPhone 4S, a third generation iPad and a fifth generation iPod.
“Best technology decision I ever made,” he says in reference to his switch to Apple products.
Sic is not an Apple freak (or “Cult of Mac” member) by any stretch of the imagination … in fact he’s not even sufficiently loyal to put one of those Apple stickers on his car. Also a rather attractive MILF recently let him explore her Galaxy (the Samsung phone, people) and there may have been a twinge of jealousy going on there …
But Apple is on top ($200 billion in annual revenue) for a reason – the company not only makes amazing devices, it makes people want those devices desperately. And not just want them generally – but specifically the very latest models of the very latest products Apple releases. Take the rumored “iWatch,” a portable electronic device that users would wear around their wrists.
“Apple is reportedly exploring development of a watch-like product,” reports Entrepreneur.com, noting that “wearable computers are widely believed to be the next computing fad” and that Apple could be looking to test this market – possibly as soon as next year.
Seasoned Apple users already know which questions that are likely to follow: What kind of chip will the devices contain? How much data can they hold? Will they feature a retina display? What colors are available? How much do they cost?
Oh … and what do you use them for? Other than telling time, obviously …
This latest evolution in gadgetry intrigues us, but whether it evolves into a game-changer, “iPhone killer,” (or the latest excuse to not watch where you’re going) remains to be seen. What do you think? Vote in our poll and post your thoughts in our comments section below …

The biggest problem with this is having to recharge your watch. That will be a bitch. Also, making it waterproof should be a high priority. I’m not wearing a watch that isn’t waterproof because I don’t want to make a several hundred dollar screw-up because I forgot to take it off before dunking my hands in water. Problem is having somewhere to plug it in to recharge it, as well as a headphone jack, without making it susceptible to water damage.
Not sure how this will fly, honestly. Apple fanatics will buy anything with the logo stamped on it, but beyond that? Apps would be limited, video would be small as hell. Music is easy enough. Good luck getting Siri on that thing, but you’ll need it because there’s no way anyone will be able to use a soft keyboard.
Sounds like a very expensive venture that will be hard to capitalize on.

Spot on. Unless they are going after a different functional use…in some manner or another trying to revolutionize another market (besides simply transferring their current capabilities to a watch like product).
Well, I don’t know Mr.Smirks. I don’t think It would be very hard to capitalize on at all. In regard to the concerns you brought up, consider the fact that now a days most digital watches are water proof anyway, I’m sure Apple can find some way to incorporate the same kind of resistance into a more advanced time piece.
Charging this watch, as you mentioned, I agree would be a concern but its not necessarily how it’s charged that concerns me, it’s forgetting to charge it, depleting the battery during the day, or having insufficient charge on the go. But i’m still confident Apple will have thought this through and besides with a device that small i’m sure it could be designed to sustain a battery life of at least 60-48 hours without cumbersome activity on the IOS itself or just using it to tell time.
Consider that even with how technologically advanced most work environments and places outside of it have become, even a “phone” may not be permitted for various reasons (from productivity control issues to the protection of confidential information). But a “watch” can usually go places a phone may not be permitted, I mean, who makes you take off your watch (unless its for fear it may get caught on some dangerous workplace equipment that could cause you harm-in which case you probably shouldn’t be wearing it there anyway)?
My point is not to say that this watch would be taking the place of a smart phone, but if you could receive notifications, email, text messages, use gps, safari and incorporate other useful features from the iOS platform all while keeping the watch design sleek and attractive. How do you think it would sell? – like every other Apple product. Maybe they could even make the core of the watch interchangeable between watch bands face designs, who knows.
I’ll bet the user interface will be a bitch.
I agree it has to be waterproof. Wireless
charging and Bluetooth 4 would get you
there. It would need a speaker. My lifeproof
case is waterproof and the back of the
case works like a big speaker and
produces good sound and there is
no problem talking into it. The wireless
charging like palm pre. It used magnets.
The nano could be held in place by
magnets on a strap and easily removed
and charged wirelessly.
I heard Apple is working on a micro chip that would be implanted under your skin. The chip recharges itself from your body’s temperature. It is voice activated by several i-Commands.
Everything is displayed on a special contact you wear on the surface of your eye. Bausch and Lomb is currently working on the lens.
I’m sure Sic will be the first one in line to get one. That way he can watch his porn sites while driving down the highway. Just hope he has an automatic. Kinda’ hard to shift gears with a boner!
it depends on the cost because if it happens to be $1,000.Would you buy it?
